I also always cross check on ABE for pricing, I only sell the occasional book on etsy so am only mildly invested in following the market.
yes you can change it to daily but when it is in your account is still up to your bank–a deposit to mine takes 24 hours and obviously will not deposit on weekends, no matter what way you slice and dice it, the money will no longer be immedient like it currently is, I honestly think that some smaller sellers will be in for a shock. I am also concerned about the paypal loan program–this move by ebay could end it.
your instinct is good on this Hab–at any rate ebay is NOT doing this out of the kindness of their heart, LOL. I honestly have never had one problem with paypal and I have had their card since day one. ON etsy you stay on the same page to pay by credit card or paypal–so any other argument from ebay about security and convenience is nonsense IMO
I got to keep my standalone on etsy as well and I am grateful to have it–for people who depend on daily sales and daily deposits through paypal this will take some adjusting to IMO. Ebay will make money on the interest from holding the cash until it is disbursed and that is why they are doing this no doubt.
On etsy (who is using the same processor as ebay is going with) it works this way–all payments, including paypal goes through their processors, funds, on etsy at least, are released into your bank account on a schedule (which can be 24 hours although this will depend on your bank–the default is every monday) no more direct deposits into your paypal account (ebay gets the interest by holding your money of course) fortunately for me I got stand alone paypal grandfathered in at etsy, but I also use their integrated system–I am used to it and it doesn’t bother me, but I can’t believe that some ebay users won’t have paypal withdrawals when the new system starts kicking in in a few years. Forget the processor change it is the disbursement change that will be surprising I’d think.
Yes the same Dutch company etsy uses–I can’t believe that none of our other members is interested in this issue.
I have no children and don’t pay Federal Taxes because I make a part time income, so I will not be getting anything other than a small boost to my personal deduction, clearly I get no break from payroll taxes which I alone pay in full, what might affect me however is the destabilization of the health insurance market by overturning the individual mandate (tacked onto this tax bill), as a cancer survivor I am uninsurable basically and need my ACA policy…sigh..winners will be those in Red States with low taxes, losers are the Big Blue states where property taxes are high, other losers may be charities because the law changes the write offs for charitable deductions. I personally think that Americans will get a rude awakening in a few years when taxes go back up for most people (the tax cuts are going to expire–they couldn’t make them permanent under Congressional rules because the enormous cost of the cuts, nearly 2 Trillion dollars–which will need to be paid for eventually (with cuts to medicaid/medicare/social security, which Paul Ryan has already broached–this is not political spin BTW, just the facts.)
I’ve had a couple of doozies this Xmas season, some people are odd, I had one guy tell me that he looked at at trinket box I sent him under a microscope and it isn’t leather–fine, send it back, jeesh, sorry that I don’t have a microscope at home, LOL.
I had 11 packages go out this morning, only 2 were ebay sales, so yes, I list more on Etsy because I get more sales there–I do some cross posting, but not all.
Amazing about your Italian music box, these are really common, I sell them frequently–the highest I have asked and sold one for is $50–I don’t know, I move mine along fairly quickly, so is it better to wait a long time or, if the item is relatively plentiful, price lower and sell quicker?
Sales have been good, around $700 for the week between ebay and etsy.
Sounds like Etsy is your main platform? It totally took over as mine–I honestly think that collectibles do great on etsy, and practical stuff better on ebay.
I haven’t been running my numbers lately, but sales have been quite good averaging 500-700$ per week between my 2 stores, I will sure miss the steady sales come next summer, LOL. I need to really consider what I want to do in my ebay store which has been sluggish for some time, my fancy things do well on Etsy, but maybe I need to concentrate on more practical stuff on ebay, got to look at what I have been selling since Fall and come to a decision on the issue.
