Yes shopping is the fun part. I started out barely listing in the old days. The balance is pretty good now and I am able to throw all my hauls into the pipeline and get back to the piles periodically. However, I need to try harder to start listing daily. It’s doable.
I miss the income but nothing else about the job. I have a child who has been struggling hard post-pandemic and I’m very hands on with that still. Lots of ups and downs. They offered me my job back twice but I’m not out of the woods with that. This business keeps me sane and stimulated plus helps with some “extra” expenses. Currently though we are strained with a few too many extras involving summer kid travel. It will be a quiet fall season with hopefully a lot more growth to my store. As a student I always worked in retail, mainly a surf store and wanted my own gift shop someday. So now I kind of have that in a no stress and liberating way.
I never watched much TV before. Now in retirement I escape with a bit of a series now and then. That’s kind of a fun change. Just finishing the Walking Dead. Unfortunately I’m not one of those who can list and listen at the same time.
By the way, I listen to the Pure Hustle podcast. They mention you a lot. Only about 10% of the content is good and relevant to me but they do talk about Ebay current news and changes. Where is My Cottage? 🙂 I miss a few people from the forum but it’s so great that you all are here while I’m ramping up my store.
Oh yeah, my time is worth so much more than the $4 overcharge. No way in heck I’m calling. But I thought maybe there was a glitch or something going on. When I changed the weight and dimensions etc. a little bit the charge seemed to stay put.
Ebay is starting to charge Fed Ex up front. My buyer for some reason chose to pay $13 and change for a small 7 oz item and ebay is charging me $16 and something for the label?
Ebay also has a banner that talks about shipping reductions to UPS. However, I just had a bad experience with UPS and my buyers hardly ever chose them.
Does anyone have the 411? I’ve been lazy and never reconciled Fed Ex charges.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335037729686 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/235219512011 are my sales of the week because they both sold immediately for a good comp price and there were plenty of others listed. Thank you promoted listings?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235220034492 This is my kind of authentic tiki and my favorite item I listed this week. I decided to put it up for sale. I bought some wood conditioner that a Youtuber I really admire uses. It worked great and made some light scratching much less noticeable.

Way to pretty for a rat bathroom. Good rescue!
Whoa Sharyn! Congrats.
I listed 43 items this week. Hoping to hit it hard this week. I’m at 944 and would be great to get to 1000 by Sunday.
@Retro thanks, great tip!
@Craig on the edges it usually has the manufacturer name or at last country. I believe people are looking for European ones. I can’t recall the comps for this one in particular. If I think it’s special though, typically someone else will. I use the keywords to try to rope in people who aren’t normally looking for this sort of thing. I also really enjoy saving these works. I learned the hard way not to save all of the baby blankets and quilts. They don’t sell well for me.
I wear Hokas all the time. They are really comfortable. Deckers Brand is here in our town. Very popular here.
Actually easy to ship compared to a lot of my stuff. Not breakable.
@Craig thanks! Sales really stink. I really should save listings as drafts so I would be posting new ones each day. I get impatient so it’s boom and bust. I created 10 yesterday but need to take photos.
Good luck with the auction Sharyn!

Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $100ish
Number of items listed this week: 35Not a great week of sales. Disappointing for this time of year. I’ve been thrifting a little more than I should be and need to buckle down for some serious listing. Enjoying the Thursday flea market though. Nice outing.
Amazing you have the patience to part things out. Glad you got your money back.
@Craig fun play by play. Scavenging is so interesting for the people you meet working sales and attending. I was thinking of you all as we have a huge annual book sale here. I just couldn’t get into it for resale but bought a few things for Christmas presents. I also have a huge backlog. There was one tiki art book I have wanted for years. The resellers got both copies on pre-sale night. To me, paying up to $20 to get in early is always worthwhile.
My scavenge of the week update? was a lot of 11 Hoka brand manufacturer sample tops. I paid $40 for the lot at the end of my daughter’s high school football rummage sale. I sold one extra small tank immediately for $20, so great. I don’t normally do clothes, so happy above that. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335029303137
Runner up is this kids’ quilt I got from a house clean out lady at the flea market for $5. https://www.ebay.com/itm/335029373208 I’m warming up to my local flea market. I found some Van Briggle pottery last week.
