So I want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong here. I’ve been checking my charges on my account recently, and I noticed that on a lot of UPS labels they are charging as much a $2 -$6 more than what I was quoted. I always measure accurately and round the weight up. Just for this month I was overcharged around $18. I checked further back (the furthest it let me go back is late October) and I caught some more overcharges, thought not as bad as recently. I checked all my Fedex labels and there were no significant overcharges (some were $0.01-$0.02 over or under). With USPS I have not had any overcharges on eBay ever. Has anyone had any success remedying this? Do I dispute these directly through eBay? Part of me wants to switch to pirateship for UPS just so I have an intermediary to deal with them when disputing charges

After everyone suggesting it, we finally started using Pirate Ship (using the AMEX card that gets us 6x the points for shipping). Pirate Ship shows you what you are charged. Never had an extra charge later on UPS.

Fed ex has always been horrible about adjustments. I switched to using pirateship for UPS labels a while back for this exact reason.
if there is an overage on pirateship they communicate to you immediately and make it easy to dispute.
the last time I got an overage charge on pirate ship for UPS dimensional shipping it was physically impossible as I used a 12x12x12 box! Pirateship deleted the overage quickly and with no fuss. -

Thanks for the advice, I’m definitely going to switch to Pirate Ship for UPS from now on. I called eBay today to dispute an overcharge of $10, they said they would appeal it as a “one time courtesy”

I was reconciling my ebay invoices to the records I keep on a spreadsheet the other night and was shocked by how much FedEx charged me on some items. The worst one so far was a peppermill that I shipped for just over $12 only to have FedEx come back and charge me over $40! I know that my measurements and weight were correct as I always round up and even leave a bit of room for error. I question whether the ebay shipping calculator is actually calculating dimensional weight correctly of if that’s something we need to do ourselves. Some of my UPS charges were also different but only by a few cents which I find odd – almost like the quote ebay provides at the time of label creation isn’t the most current rate. A few people on a reseller facebook post said I could contact Ebay to have them look into it – sometimes they refund the difference or provide a credit. I haven’t attempted that yet but I have removed FedEx from all of my shipping policies and will be using Pirate Ship for UPS.

Ebay is starting to charge Fed Ex up front. My buyer for some reason chose to pay $13 and change for a small 7 oz item and ebay is charging me $16 and something for the label?
Ebay also has a banner that talks about shipping reductions to UPS. However, I just had a bad experience with UPS and my buyers hardly ever chose them.
Does anyone have the 411? I’ve been lazy and never reconciled Fed Ex charges.

Even when charging up front, they will still try to pull the bait and switch with an overcharge. They just have to bring it to your attention rather than hiding it on a They just have to bring it to your attention rather than hiding it on an invoice. Question is who do you trust more to help you resolve the false overcharge – eBay or pirateship? I’ve had enough experience with eBay customer service to know that I don’t even wanna bother trying that out.

Oh yeah, my time is worth so much more than the $4 overcharge. No way in heck I’m calling. But I thought maybe there was a glitch or something going on. When I changed the weight and dimensions etc. a little bit the charge seemed to stay put.

Speak of the devil, UPS just overcharged me $5 saying my dimensions are off but an inch in width/height.
considering I round up to the next inch that is impossible so I’ve already submitted my dispute. -

Kind of wonder whether there’s a software issue behind these problems. The Japanese company Fujitsu supplied the British Royal Mail with defective software in 1999, resulting in (quote from Wikipedia) “…the most widespread miscarriage of justice in British legal history, spanning a period of over twenty years; aspects of the scandal remain unresolved.” Royal Mail denied that the accounting software was producing false deficits, resulting in over 700 postmasters being accused of theft.
