Number of items listed this week: 46I tried to list at least three of my craft kits each morning with bar codes before my daughter got up. I suspect the more consistent listing did help with sales.
This week I had a troll buy something and I got the feedback removed. I’m hoping it’s not from posting here on SL since I haven’t had a beef with anyone. Weird.
Have a mountain of laundered textiles to photograph and I just need to get down to that. Saturday I went to a Halloween pop up and an estate sale. I didn’t do great avoiding hunting last week but I’m pretty caught up on recent hauls except for the craft kits I’m doing over time and fabric that has draft listings.
Great idea! Last week I tried to list at least 3 items in the morning before my kid is up. I think it did help my sales.
@Craig the Halloween retail window is short and though people are looking for those brands, the lines PB and WS release each year are pretty limited for this holiday so the old stuff sells well. Christmas is a bit trickier – people like it but a lot more of it is produced. Easter seems meh.
I love the angle of RA and reselling. The retailers need to worry about producing a whole line of great stuff and getting their ideas executed well in Asia. We can just come along and cherry pick the best of their items, wait for it to no longer be available from the retailer, and sell at a premium. Sometimes I have to wait until the other resellers sell out first. Once in a while people send me a frustrated message about how they could have bought it for much less back in the day. Those are not my customers.
@Craigrex https://www.ebay.com/itm/175878253822 These are the type of books I picked up. They are large and have beautiful illustrations. I’ve got a lot of paper backlog and never seem to get to listing it. But definitely needed to save these from the landfill.
I think shipping is just having the right materials. I use protective foam and mainly large bubble. I think my packages tend to get larger than some sellers but my breakage record is pretty good. This will probably take about 10 and I’ll use tissue or packing paper around all the random metal. The worst part is finding the right box. I try to keep them organized by size but it gets a bit out of control.
Yeah, in my case I was really forced to quit. Her situation is pretty chronic. But I feel very fortunate to be able to do so and make some money on Ebay as well.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/335027862143 This scavenge of the week from last month sold for $116.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/235231011438 This sold in a day or two for $40. I paid $2 at the old lady thrift store. My daughter and I discussed the superstition of finding and then passing on a lucky guardian. Hope it works out ok for us not keeping it. 🙂

https://www.ebay.com/itm/235232044257 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/235232045914 You can bet I got the term outsider art from the podcast. These I got for a buck in the garage of an estate sale. I also bought a big stack of 1960s large art magazines. The person was not at all a good painter but I thought these etchings were interesting.
My other favorite item was this 70s boat sculpture https://www.ebay.com/itm/235232304766 that I got for $10 at the flea market.
@Lukas great job on that print. I love to buy smaller midcentury art but honestly would have passed on this, as I do with most Asian items. Good for you!
I’ve pretty much gone with a 10-15 minute limit policy on research with pottery and art. Probably will miss something that way.
Covid is totally going around here. Feel better soon Amatino and Julie I hope you heal quickly from the surgery.
I listed 46 items last week. The number EBay shows as listed seems to jump around a but in a way that doesn’t seem right so I did not hit 1000 but should this week. Today I need to examine and photograph fabric items. I don’t know why I dislike doing that so much. The big duvets are a pita. But I sold one last month for a great price and that helps.
Too not to. Geez typo
@ebaymom good to hear from you. I totally hear you about all the appointments. Stay strong power mom.
Have you tried sell similar on your old listings? I do it once every 9-12 months. I am able to make a lot of offers right afterward. Also get a few sales out of it. Only problem is that it breaks all of my Pinterest board links. I do believe EBay has tweaked the algorithm to kind of further bury stale listings. I have some older listings with a lot of views and a poor sell through rate. I should probably take a look at their comp prices one day.
Hope you would consider someday maybe doing a quarterly update podcast? 🙂
Yes shopping is the fun part. I started out barely listing in the old days. The balance is pretty good now and I am able to throw all my hauls into the pipeline and get back to the piles periodically. However, I need to try harder to start listing daily. It’s doable.
I miss the income but nothing else about the job. I have a child who has been struggling hard post-pandemic and I’m very hands on with that still. Lots of ups and downs. They offered me my job back twice but I’m not out of the woods with that. This business keeps me sane and stimulated plus helps with some “extra” expenses. Currently though we are strained with a few too many extras involving summer kid travel. It will be a quiet fall season with hopefully a lot more growth to my store. As a student I always worked in retail, mainly a surf store and wanted my own gift shop someday. So now I kind of have that in a no stress and liberating way.
I never watched much TV before. Now in retirement I escape with a bit of a series now and then. That’s kind of a fun change. Just finishing the Walking Dead. Unfortunately I’m not one of those who can list and listen at the same time.
By the way, I listen to the Pure Hustle podcast. They mention you a lot. Only about 10% of the content is good and relevant to me but they do talk about Ebay current news and changes. Where is My Cottage? 🙂 I miss a few people from the forum but it’s so great that you all are here while I’m ramping up my store.
Oh yeah, my time is worth so much more than the $4 overcharge. No way in heck I’m calling. But I thought maybe there was a glitch or something going on. When I changed the weight and dimensions etc. a little bit the charge seemed to stay put.
