Lol! Honestly though, so what? A street full of people you will never see again think you are homeless? You are laughing all the way to the bank, buying your own time with their castoffs while they stress about how to pay for the stuff they don’t need to impress people they don’t even like! I wouldn’t go late at night since I think that that would be a little scary, but if you aren’t scared and it makes you more comfortable, go for it 🙂 I’ve seen youtube videos of “dumpster diving tours” of NYC at night so it’s a thing there for sure.

Plight, the neg rating and neg feedback are both gone. I think there is a FB group to post experiences like your friend’s to now and they get some other team involved. I don’t know the specifics, but I’ve heard about this on youtube.

Jay, why don’t you look in garbage bags on the curb in NYC if you want to? If they’re on the right-of-way, it’s legal. If someone put out $5000 boots, I’d definitely be taking a peek in whatever bags they put out with them. It might be gross old food and dirty diapers, but it also might be a bunch of other $$$ stuff. If it’s embarrassment that is stopping you, just remember that 1) you’ll never see these people again and 2) the people walking by probably don’t even see you even if they’re looking at you. People are infinitely more concerned with themselves generally lol. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been hassled while curbside shopping, and when it happened I just left. No big deal.
Sales have been pretty slow for me, so my numbers aren’t really worth posting. Hope it picks up soon.
Oh cool! I’m on the east coast, by Melbourne. It must be the land of a thousand churches or something because I find religious books (and demon religious books) everywhere here lol.
That’s great!!
It must be where I live then (coastal FL, land of many churches) because Christian books on Satan/demons are at every thrift store, most estate sales and every church rummage sale. They are like printing money…like you said, list and sell almost immediately. I do well with other recent religious books too, but the demonic ones are definitely the best sellers.
Weighing in on the demon topic…Ouija boards don’t scare me. I don’t see how a board game can be possessed. I almost hate to actually admit this, but I’ve found religious books on demons to be GREAT sellers on Ebay. I never pass them up when I see them. The ones written for a Christian audience sell especially well, and they seem to be in every thrift store and at every rummage sale. In general religious-topic books do great for me, but the ones about demons/Satan/being possessed/etc. are reliable and fast sellers. The topic isn’t really of any interest to me but clearly there is a wide audience for this stuff.

The more I look at this table, the more I fall in love with it. I knew that this was going to happen lol. I’m going to go back to that apartment complex today or tomorrow to see if the chairs made it out to the trash by any chance. If I can find them, I’m keeping the set. If not, I’m selling the table.
So true! I’m going to try the slow dime here 🙂
Thanks ChristineR! That chairish website looks intriguing! I am leaning towards them over Ebay now because it sounds like they vet their buyers. I am not up for dealing with shipping this table and then having someone claim INAD to try to get a partial refund or something. I definitely need to take some better pictures before I submit to them though. Their pics look great (it says they touch them up, but they must be pretty good to begin with).
Maybe 3K is optimistic lol. When googled him, this is what I found. I don’t know how famous he was…maybe not very:

I could sit on it for a while…I wouldn’t mind putting it in the dining room 🙂 I wonder if CL is an option if I priced to move it quickly. My area isn’t super designer-y (unless you could beach decor from Bealls lol), so I don’t know if that’s even a real option here but I’m willing to try.
Fantastic! That’s exactly what I’ll put then. I love the part about paying full price and immediately. I think I’ll price north of 3K with best offer and see what happens…I’m definitely all about making them pay up-front. I wouldn’t drive a long distance to find out that they don’t really want it or something.
3 hours from Miami, 2 from Ft. Lauderdale, 4 from Savannah, 1 from Orlando…I’d totally drive this thing for 3 grand lol. Should I put it on Ebay with “local pickup” then? Do you put it in the listing that you’d drive it so far (within 200 miles or whatever)?
Swimsuits/bikinis are small and sell well, but you said you are getting away from clothing so not sure you’d want to sell those. What about pins? I’ve done well selling various vintage pins, especially ski pins and military pins. Sometimes I find those at the Goodwill bins, pinned to old parkas and jackets. I just take off the pins and buy those, so the investment is next-to-nothing and they are small to store. Most thrift stores have baskets of pins up front that are always worth looking through.
My parents are going to hopefully downsize from their big house into a smaller townhouse. It’s painful having to tell them over and over that nobody wants their china set/crystal/silverware collection/giant dining room set/collectibles. People still equate sunk cost with value, and that stuff cost a lot of money once upon a time. Now thrift stores don’t even want it because it takes up space and doesn’t sell.
