This feels like a first in my experience. A buyer left me a negative at the 59 day mark on a lot of books that she had never even contacted me about. The listing had free returns to boot. I checked her feedback for others, and it appeared that leaving lots of negs very late in the game to procure refunds was her MO. Some of the sellers had responded to her negatives saying that she left feedback 45 days out even after they fully refunded her. I called Ebay and the first rep saw this as an abusive buyer and reported her, but said she couldn’t remove the feedback.
I called back and escalated it and the next rep said that this was clearly an abusive buyer and removed the feedback. He even said that at 59 days out she probably had read the books and he considered this basically extortion in order to get a refund beyond the return date. He indicated that Ebay is becoming much more receptive to sellers’ issues such as this. Time will tell, but hopefully that’s true. Hope this helps someone. Always call back if you feel that you have a leg to stand on. Feedback left for others can be very helpful in establishing a pattern to Ebay in these situations too, and it seems that they might be taking this seriously now.

did they take away the neg fb rating too?
Something similar happened to a friend of mine recently the buyer refused or could not send a photo of the damage claimed he threw out the framed art print w glass so my friend could not get his insurance coverage. Did this after 2 months of no info. They returned all the money to the buyer. He’s been fighting with ebay over this to no avail.
Ebay took away the neg comment but not the neg fb rating. Ebay said they are unable to take away the neg.Meant to add seller claimed he sent a photo to ebay of damage but ebay doesn’t have it to send to seller and buyer claims ebay photo is broken. this guy was also a seller and knows the rules very bad interaction. -

eBay has always been pretty good about solving issues if the buyer is obviously a problem. Takes time on the phone of course.
Glad this worked out. Would be a positive outcome if eBay is actually cracking down on abusive buyers.

Plight, the neg rating and neg feedback are both gone. I think there is a FB group to post experiences like your friend’s to now and they get some other team involved. I don’t know the specifics, but I’ve heard about this on youtube.

I had the same positive experience removing a completely unearned negative rating/feedback 2 weeks ago on my side of the pond.
A buyer gave me a negative rating and feedback because i only offered wire transfer as a payment option (this was CLEARLY declared, now i offer for every item paypal as a payment processor, too).
A short convo with an Ebay rep on Sunday morning cleared the issue in about 15 minutes and my negative feedback was removed a hour later.
Maybe eBay wakes up to the fact that not only the buyers are important, but the sellers as well.
Another not well elaborated suggestion of mine would be to nudge the buyers to leave an review with some sort of incentive. I might be a little to strict, but I can’t stand the fact that i have a lot of customers who don’t leave any review at all, even if they are/were satisfied.
I mean, c’mon, it’s a matter of seconds to give a positive review with the dropdown menu of pre-written statements.

When we were new sellers we also were hungry for as much feedback as we could get. We put flyers in our packages encouraging buyers to leave us positive feedback.
As we’ve grown more experienced, I think it’s a risky strategy. It’s better to have no feedback than to stir up a grumpy buyer to leave negative feedback.
At the end of the day, the amount of positive feedback you have really doesnt matter. As a buyer, I dont care if you have 100 positive feedback or 10,000 positive feedback. eBay doesnt either. All they give you is a different colored star at certain points. But there’s no other reward.
However, negative feedback is much more powerful. Even a single negative can stand out over a mass of positives. So we just sell the best we can and let feedback come as it may. We challenge any neutral or negative that seems unfair.
