“the trademark government officials”?! Who are they, exactly? I agree that this sounds like someone who wanted your Ebay ID and is mad that you have it. Why didn’t she pay a patent and trademark attorney to draft that email if she is serious about defending her trademark?
EbayMom that’s what I was thinking…lock it away somewhere and maybe someday in the future it will be a museum piece lol.
UGH, for sure you’re right Jay. Anarchists are definitely going towards the DIY guns online. Recipes for making DIY pot farms and exploding tennis balls are probably quaint by comparison.
This was an estate clean-out onto the curb (it’s where I found the persian rug too), and the person was way into guns, ammo, and what I’d call “prepper” type stuff. I’ve sold a bunch of vintage books from those boxes on weirdly specific types of guns and knives. They sell fast! This looks to be the most valuable book in the boxes though.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking. Thanks!
I saw Persian, Tabriz, and Serapi regularly used to describe this kind of rug on Ebay so I’m guessing that the bot doesn’t pick those up. One thing that I did notice is that very big sellers of Persian rugs on Ebay put “made in Iran” in the description, but there are never any clear pictures of the tag on back. I’m so glad that someone mentioned the embargo, because I would absolutely have put “made in Iran” in my title otherwise!!
Oh wow! Good point!! Maybe that’s why the listings all say Persian? Is it OK that the tag says that it was made in Iran? That would be in a photo.
No, not disgusting. It was out on the curb with stuff piled on top of it and has a few spots on the backing though. I haven’t sniffed it, but it probably smells like the musty estate-sale smell. I’ll try airing it out.
Good point! I just watched a youtube video on hand knotted rugs, and I’d say that this one is for sure. The lines on the back aren’t straight like they should be if the rug were made by machine. I think I’d feel OK putting this in, but I’ll leave off “veggie dyed” and any guess as to the age as I have no clue on either of those.
It could stand to be cleaned. I really don’t want to have it cleaned…but as I’m sure it sat in a house for decades I’m going to just put that in the description. Hopefully that will be OK.
So sorry that someone is returning a rug to you…I heard you guys talking about it on the podcast and I think that that might be why I’m nervous to ship this big thing! I don’t do free returns, but still…people can always claim INAD if they want to return it on the seller’s dime.
Is the type of tarp mentioned above like the blue tarps used on roofs after storms? I should be able to find one of those here no problem.
Ah OK…mine doesn’t look distressed then. It just has normal wear as if it were in a dining room or formal living room.
Do you even add “hand knotted” or do you leave that out if you don’t know for sure? The back of this rug has so many irregularities that I don’t see know it could have been made by a machine, but it doesn’t say “hand knotted” so I don’t know for 100% sure. It seems like a selling point/keyword in a lot of listings though.
The tag says 10 feet 9 inches by 7 feet 5 inches. It’s thin enough to bend for sure, since that’s how I got it in my car. I bent after it was rolled though. Are you saying fold and then roll? That would make sense too. I don’t want to damage the rug though. Also, how do you ship…Fedex? I need to make sure it’s under so many inches all dimensions added if I use Fedex I think. Otherwise it’s “oversized”? Here are pics of the rug and the tag for reference of how big it is. It takes up pretty much one bay of my garage.
08/20/2018 at 10:51 am in reply to: Selling a heavy set of Sansui speakers – better to part them out? #47739Thanks everyone. I’m going to put them on CL and see what happens. They didn’t look like a super-valuable model, so not worth shipping I agree.
They definitely should. It’s not like you did it on purpose. Honestly, it’s not even like they are enforcing that policy. So much of what is listed there is all over Ebay. They can escalate it and see if they can approve the keys anyways as they are so old that they couldn’t be used to start anything. If not, you can at least ask for the strike to be removed as it was an honest mistake.
The time that I put the item in the wrong category, my account was suspended for 3 days in addition to the strike! I found out when I was trying to list something and a message popped up that I couldn’t list. I called immediately, explained my mistake and they removed the suspension and the strike on my account. I found them to be pretty reasonable. Hope you also have the same experience.

Twice I’ve had it happen to me, once with some used socks that I sold (you can’t sell them because they are potentially pervy items I guess), and once because I put something in the wrong category where it wasn’t allowed by accident (did a “sell similar” on someone else’s listing and didn’t look at the category closely enough). The second time I called, explained my mistake and they removed whatever strike it would have left on my account. Maybe try calling and explaining?

I haven’t tried putting them on Ebay yet as I rather like them. They are big especially when in a pair, and fragile, so shipping puts me off a bit. Craigslist would probably be the way to go, although it looks like these can go rather high on Ebay. I’m not sure I’d chance them breaking in shipping.
Oh that stinks! There isn’t a caveat for vintage items of this sort? For instance, you can’t sell used panties on Ebay, but you can sell vintage panties (that obviously were used at some point years ago). Perhaps there is something similar for this type of item? If they are vintage, I can’t imagine that they are useful to control any type of modern train.
Their enforcement of this policy must be hit-or-miss because I’ve seen plenty of airline worker uniforms on Ebay when researching other items. Same with UPS…lots of uniform stuff on there.
