People in my area are still complaining, don’t get me wrong. Our town had to close down beach parking because we were being overrun by people coming from the counties (and other states) that had closed down. We were afraid of them seeding our area with infection. You can still go to the beach, but you can’t park there. Obviously this makes it a less-attractive prospect for most and we have not had our beaches slammed since the spring break fiasco.
There is a vocal group that wants everything including beach parking opened back up immediately. I feel like our lockdown is pretty minor in comparison to other states but yet there will always be complainers and protesters. I’m sure when they kids start back to school in August there will be complainers about the kids having to wear masks. I’m just thinking of avoiding it wholesale and homeschooling for the next school year too. Seems like the logical choice. Homeschooling isn’t that bad…I though it would be more difficult than it has been. Mine have always gone to the neighborhood schools so this is new for us.
Honestly my state (FL) hasn’t really locked down like other states. The roads are still packed, you can get takeout anywhere, most stores seem to be open. Some people are still having yard and estate sales on the weekends which I’d think is against the rules but Florida is gonna be Florida I guess. We are staying in because we’d prefer to have a vetted therapeutic available at least before we start venturing out. I have plenty of Ebay deathpiles to keep me busy lol. Sales have been surprisingly good for me in the past month but I wonder if that will hold.
I think my state may be opening up hotels and vacation rentals to outside tourists soon, so maybe yours will too? It will be interesting to see how the Georgia experiment pans out in a few weeks. Maybe if it’s not a terrible uptick in numbers other states will start loosening up.
One thing that I’ve found interesting in all of this is that we don’t hate homeschooling. My oldest will start high school in the fall and as long as it’s done safely (ie everyone wearing masks at all times) I think she’ll be good to go. My grade schooler is doing just fine homeschooling and I think I’m going to homeschool her next year using our state’s virtual school curriculum. Not going to lie here…I’m rather enjoying not dashing back and forth to drop offs and pickups and lessons all day long. I also don’t trust that littler kids can be made to wear masks and social distance all day long. Until this thing is over, I think I’m an accidental homeschooler…and I don’t hate it.

ETA – I just looked at the Ebay forums and it’s a known issue. I ended up copying the “processing” sale and starting the copied one. It worked. They other one is still hanging out there processing so I think it was a glitch.
Thanks! That was it. Mine new items were 2 pages back from the last item when sorted by “ending latest”. So weird.
Isn’t selling used beauty products pretty unsanitary? Perfume is fine, but people really sell used lipstick or mascara? That would seem like asking for an infection.

If not I’m not sure, but it looks like it’s a game day jersey for sure from what I’m comparing it to on Ebay.
Eta – that wiki article says he was the coach in 98 so I added that. It will be interesting to see if this actually has any value or if it was just a fluke that it got so much attention so quickly.

They buyer asked to cancel and rebuy as he put in the incorrect address. Yes, it’s definitely a player’s game jersey. I figured that out by comparing as I was freaking out. OK, so now I’m putting it up at auction. Let’s see what happens lol.

08/05/2019 at 10:03 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 422: Ready for a Recession at Any Time #65897Last week was awful on Ebay but still decent on Poshmark. I need to do my numbers, but I transferred right around $500 on Poshmark after fees and shipping so decent for me anyways.
Recessions are when scavengers shine. We bought our house (a foreclosure) in the last recession. We literally never could have afforded this house or this neighborhood otherwise. We own it outright and we have no consumer debt. For us, recessions mean deals! We LOVE to cruise, and during the last recession there were so many cheap cruise deals. We took some 3-night Disney cruises for $1300 for a family of 4. That is like half of what we pay now. We’ll be cruising every month if the deals come back like that.
Jay, you are such a decent human for not judging. I admit that I definitely do judge the people around me who drive Teslas and Bentleys while not having a dime in savings (and tons in consumer debt). They are the ones to blame everyone else when the bottom falls out of the economy. Society ends up paying in the long run.
I grew up in northeastern MA on the NH border and went to college and grad school in Worcester. To me western MA is what Ryanne said…Northampton, Springfield, and whatever other towns are out there. Gardner, Orange, Athol are all still Central MA although they are borderline in my mind lol. The only time I ever went to Western MA was to go to Six Flags. It’s like another country for people from Eastern MA, and I’m sure vice versa.

The difference I could see is that nearly all of Poshmark’s packages are apparently under 5 lbs. The USPS can count on that. With Ebay, I think all bets are off…they could be 4 ounces or 1000 pounds. There is no way to know because there are so many categories. Poshmark is all fashion. Maybe that could explain it?
Jay, as long as the buyer purchased those items as a “bundle” they would ship together for $4.99. Sellers often offer additional bundle discounts too so there is additional incentive to bundle beyond only paying the one shipping fee.
You can request a label over 5 lbs if you need it. Thus far I’ve never needed to request one so I can’t speak to what happens if you do. Maybe they do charge you or the buyer more? Not sure.
It looks like Poshmark does have some sort of negotiated deal with USPS https://www.endicia.com/en/why-us/success-stories/poshmark . I really wish that Ebay would negotiate something similar.
As for the scene at college moveouts, I’m sure it’s huge by NYU! Martin from Garbage Finds does dumpster diving around McGill during college moveouts, and he has talked about the competition before. I look around the neighborhoods and apartments by my local university (pretty small engineering school) and find great stuff tossed mostly by rich foreign students. I assume they can’t or don’t want to bring it home. I’ve never seen anyone else looking, but I assume that bigger universities might attract more people looking to see what’s left. I cannot even imagine what must be left behind at places like NYU.
We live in God’s waiting room here in coastal FL, and estate sales are everywhere every weekend. I only go to some. The no price thing is annoying. You get a feel for certain estate sale companies though. Some I just avoid when I see their signs, some I go on the last day, some I know will make a deal even on the first day…also, the ones run by the family with no company involved are the best.
He definitely paid shipping! I wonder if he thinks he can resell this for more. I guess it’s possible, but I really don’t think so.
How are you guys getting so many items to make offers on? I have best offer on all of my items and watchers on many and yet I only have 2 that I can send offers on.
Lol! I actually had the zero balance receipt from our Atlantis timeshare check-out on our fridge for a while. My husband asked me if it was my “trophy”. Hahahaha yup!
Yes, you ship with the Poshmark label they send you. They have some sort of negotiated deal because every label is Priority mail good for up to 5 pounds. If your item or bundle exceeds 5 pounds you can contact them for a heavier label.
