Sometimes if I buy stuff at an estate sale or find it in a curb pile of what is obviously an estate cleanout, I keep it in the garage in case there is any bad juju attached to it. I guess the guy at the Salvation Army has confirmed my suspicious lol. My husband always laughs at this, but you never know!
Dumpsters and trash piles are some of my favorite places to source lol. Honestly, you can find good stuff in ANY dumpster, so don’t rule out the ones in your area. People throw out good stuff in the most random places.
That poster was a fantastic find! Congrats!
Interesting. The Koran makes sense now.
Totally satisfying to figure out! Now to figure out pricing…
I found it!!! It’s Uzbek. Would not have guessed that in a million years, but it came up as I searched for various different countries and “velvet embroidery”. It’s a traditional Uzbek nomadic robe. Very cool…I wonder how these 2 things ended up in a dumpster in Florida lol.

It definitely looks like that’s a possibility too. It would make sense since I found a Koran with the 2 garments. I wonder if they are specific to a single country. I have searched Ebay and I can’t find anything like them.
Interesting…my mom is Greek Orthodox so I’ll see if she recognizes them. It’s possible with the vest, but I’ve never seen anything like the longer coat.
Our local university doesn’t have a recycling sale, but they do have a move out weekend when the dumpster diving at local apartments is pretty choice. I always hit up the fraternity/sorority housing (they seem to have $$ and throw out a lot of brand new stuff) and the rich foreign kid off-campus apartments. In terms of what I find, it runs the gamut from clothes and shoes to books, household items, lots of furniture, backpacks, perfumes…I tend to grab the smaller stuff that will resell easily and leave the rest. Books are my favorite as they can often go through Amazon trade-in for quick cash.
That’s amazing!!! Who throws that out?! What a lucky find.
Well, I lost it on the 20th of the month. It was for the “tracking uploaded and scanned” reason, and I know that it wasn’t right but there was no fighting it. Hope it’s just a glitch for the rest of you. I took off free returns and I’m going to a longer handling time since I don’t have TRS to maintain any longer.
Oh that’s annoying. I had no idea about this new “same price for 14 days” rule. I’m normally like the Kohl’s of hat sellers…price them high and put them on 30% off sale immediately to generate traffic. Guess I can’t do that now. Grrrrr.
Does it seem like we’re being pushed towards promoted listings in lieu of sales? Ebay gets 20% more if you promote it at 20%, but they actually get less in FVF if you put it on sale for 20% off.

It’s more expensive than going to Aldi, but he does a booming business because everyone knows where it actually comes from. I feel like it’s more reliable than the farmer’s market in terms of the stuff actually being grown in FL. I do shop there occasionally, but more as a fill-in trip between weekly Aldi runs than as a regular matter of course. We eat a lot of produce, and Aldi is cheap…I agree that Americans are addicted to cheap food, but that food probably shouldn’t be so cheap as it’s not cheap to grow.

Having just removed free returns this week is the real test for me though. So far, I don’t think it’s affecting me but I guess time will tell. During the summer I spend a few weeks in Orlando so my kids can do camps there. While they are in camp, I source bigtime at the Goodwill bins and other thrift stores. I’m focusing on stocking up that way so I can be ready when buyers hopefully return to Ebay in the fall.
The CSA issue that Jay talked about was interesting. I hope that they take the advice and become more transparent, because if you’re paying that much you want to know where the produce was grown. There have been some instances of people at the farmer’s market selling stuff from the grocery store in my area, so for now we just buy our produce at Aldi with the rest of the groceries. I wish I felt like I could trust the farmer’s market, but I just don’t.
VintageTreasures, I sell mainly hats and don’t have a lot of returns normally either. However, since starting “free returns” I’ve had 2 really random returns that I don’t think would have happened otherwise. So far my sales are normal…granted, it’s been less than 24 hours since I removed free returns, so that probably isn’t a fair assessment yet though.
