Found this on my usual Sunday-morning dumpster dive on my way to grocery shop. It was thrown out at a rather average-to-low income apt. complex. I haven’t cleaned it up yet but my mom is going to come over later and help me clean and oil it. It’s teak and other than a few scratches from it’s trip to the trash it’s in great shape.
I’d love suggestions on my best bet for selling it. I see another one for sale in Miami for $3995 online lol. I’ve never sold furniture on Ebay before, but I’m willing to try. Craigslist in small town coastal FL doesn’t seem like the best bet, but maybe I shouldn’t rule it out? Thanks for any help!

Wow. What a find. Teak oil will solve any issues.
How far are you from a larger urban area? People will drive 1-3 hours to pick up furniture from us.
Plus if someone wants to buy a $3000 item, we often will deliver it if its within a an hour or two of us.

3 hours from Miami, 2 from Ft. Lauderdale, 4 from Savannah, 1 from Orlando…I’d totally drive this thing for 3 grand lol. Should I put it on Ebay with “local pickup” then? Do you put it in the listing that you’d drive it so far (within 200 miles or whatever)?

Yes, list as “local pickup”.
Then in description we say something like.
“We live in X Town at 77025. You’re welcome to come pick it up for free. Once you purchase, we can arrange the details.“If you purchase for full price and pay immediately through Paypal, we’re happy to do free delivery several hours from 77025 (Miami, Ft Lauderdale, …). Just message us if you have questions.”
We always make furniture people pay immediately with Paypal. We never take cash on pickup. We like to be paid up front so we know we have the money. Then the buyers can fool with their timing.

Fantastic! That’s exactly what I’ll put then. I love the part about paying full price and immediately. I think I’ll price north of 3K with best offer and see what happens…I’m definitely all about making them pay up-front. I wouldn’t drive a long distance to find out that they don’t really want it or something.

Some sellers really get obsessed with cash deals to save on the 2.5% Paypal fees. But to us, it’s worth the extra fee to know we have the money.
We have had people buy furniture, pay immediately, then takes weeks and weeks to figure out pick up. Doesnt matter to us since they paid.

I see one Povl Dinesen sold item on eBay recently:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=povl+dinesen&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1Others for sale:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=povl+dinesen&_sacat=0I dont find that he was a famous Danish modern designer. No wikipedia article or easy google searches.
Are you willing to sit on these? If so, you’d make more. But if you want to sell quick, people love MCM at an affordable price (under $500).

Maybe 3K is optimistic lol. When googled him, this is what I found. I don’t know how famous he was…maybe not very:

I could sit on it for a while…I wouldn’t mind putting it in the dining room 🙂 I wonder if CL is an option if I priced to move it quickly. My area isn’t super designer-y (unless you could beach decor from Bealls lol), so I don’t know if that’s even a real option here but I’m willing to try.

This is the perfect example of the “churn & burn” vs “list and forget”. Or the fast nickel vs slow dime.
You could sell it for $150 this week. That’s as cheap as someone going to Ikea and buying a junky table. You pulled it out of the trash so its quick, free money. There’s a lot of sellers like this. No issues of storage.
Or you could take awesome photos, write a researched description, and create an enticing title with all the right keywords. List it for $2975k with make offer. Put it in your living room and use it. It may take a year, but I bet you’ll sell it for much more than $150.

So true! I’m going to try the slow dime here 🙂

Congrats ChristineK! If Ebay or local don’t work out and if you are flipping more large high end items, there is also Chairish. https://www.chairish.com/maker/povl-dinesen.

Thanks ChristineR! That chairish website looks intriguing! I am leaning towards them over Ebay now because it sounds like they vet their buyers. I am not up for dealing with shipping this table and then having someone claim INAD to try to get a partial refund or something. I definitely need to take some better pictures before I submit to them though. Their pics look great (it says they touch them up, but they must be pretty good to begin with).

The more I look at this table, the more I fall in love with it. I knew that this was going to happen lol. I’m going to go back to that apartment complex today or tomorrow to see if the chairs made it out to the trash by any chance. If I can find them, I’m keeping the set. If not, I’m selling the table.

We have things in our house that we love. We have it listed for crazy high prices. If someone is willing to pay it, we’ll sell it.

I say list it through the Holidays (now – Janaury). People are looking for dining sets to entertain family. If you have not sold for your desired price by Xmas, then keep for a bit. 🙂 And then re-list. 🙂
Very cool! -
