Sorry if it wasn’t clear!
Overview: looks like someone was able to set up a way to spoof an eBay shipping account on my PayPal .
This is an ebay selling account -tied to PayPal for years to take customer payments and to pay for shipping charges, subscriptions, fees etc.
recently noticed a string of PayPal charges which were labeled as “eBay shipping” but which didn’t match any of our actual orders or shipments and, when looked up on PayPal, didn’t have any details such as tracking or order numbers. All small amounts, maybe one every couple of days , that suddenly started ramping up today – basically, today there were 6 charges for prepaid labels for packages /orders that didn’t exist. Don’t know where the money was going but it was coming out of my account.
the only real clue was that the email address being paid to was 1 character different from the address which PayPal has paid for eBay shipping for years.
Reported to PayPal and will wait to hear if anything more comes of it – so far have changed PayPal passwords made sure if 2step verification and had some exchanges with PayPal, who are investigating fraud. Apparently I will have to seek a refund for the roughly $100 that was siphoned out of my account.
Join date was 12/13/97, but first sale / first purchase not til 2001 – they missed a lot!!!
And the graph has me as 72% “other” – only 10% toys and hobbies.
still happy to have the coupon, and happy to still have the “e!”
08/02/2020 at 12:07 pm in reply to: eBay app updated and now my seller preferences have changed and are locked #80270I have not been listing much but I just completed a listing On the app and I am gob smacked Dash I can select business policies now?? I’ve been begging for this for a couple of years this is horribly exciting.
Remember response from one of our scavengers who brought this up at an eBay convention, believe the corporate response was along the lines of “what? People who use the app also use business policies!”
this a real game changer, now I can take pictures with the app, dictate my descriptions with the app, list with my business policies from the app!
To tie with this topic, yes, You have to clean up your business policies now and then especially if you re-list something with the app.
hope this won’t occur any more!
07/25/2020 at 9:06 am in reply to: Any way to keep Fedex from increasing price after the fact? #79940I’ve had to ship a very large (3 feet plus ) very heavy (30 lbs plus ) items ( guitars, amplifiers) and only have an old spring scale for that range of weights – so I always round up the weight a little. When I drop these packages off, usually write down the reading in their scale. Also learned that 39 1/16 inches equals 40 inches so always round up.
admit to spending too much time resizing a finished package to get it under the dimensional threshold.Had one chargeback once – never again.
Honestly, Facebook marketplace is frightening to me. I would feel very uncomfortable selling something to someone who could then learn about family, history, hobbies, etc..
My sarcastic response has been “probably about a dollar more than you want to pay” but since all of my listings are Make Offer with No Minimum offer I use the kind yet terse “thanks a lot got your interest! Feel free to make an offer”
So everybody is HAPPY!06/16/2020 at 10:10 am in reply to: ebay execs accused of cyberstalking the Steiners (ecommercebytes owners) #78487The titles of the indicted read like a CIA org chart.
Steve’s videos brighten my week every week.
I really have to get to work on my disassembled 8 tracks – have had less success repairing them! No, it’s a great service and makes the shipping more affordable. I just thought people were actually choding it, but I had just put it first !
Glad you are recovering, what a journey.
The world may be a mess, but thank heavens for eBay!Experiencing pretty much the opposite here – not only is no one complaining about shipping charge, but they are paying more than ever. Most of my sales are for items less than $30, in many cases the shipping charge has been nearly equal to or in some cases higher than the actual price of the item. ( Example -an old suitcase sells for 30 bucks and the buyer pays nearly 40 to have a delivered across the country. And honestly, who is planning a trip?)
Have even had Buyers offer to pay more for a quick shipment.
It’s true!
Plus, for the first time in maybe forever, buyers are selecting FedEx Ground because it’s cheaper. I’ve had that option on most listings for years and in the past two weeks people are making the choice. do they have More time to ACTUALLY READ THE DESCRIPTION? hmmmmmm. So far so good.
Casual observations:
In the past week I’ve had first class packages go across the country in a day or two. So from here Postal service seems normal.
Local post office has some distancing rules in effect and jury rigged protections for workers, everyone in good spirits.
eBayers keeping them busy, sales seem good.
Customers generally masked and respecting the tape lines on the floor.
Big sanitizer dispenser, have a pump.
At home, advertising junk mail is WAY down. This stuff has always been mentioned as a burden to profitability. Will it return?
Heard about a movement encouraging people to buy stamps since that can help the bottom line. Have actually been getting cards and letters from friends and relatives. Seems like a great thing to do on many levels, especially if it might help the PO.
Sales are up, haven’t encountered any mailing issues, largely ignoring the perditions and predictions which are shooting out of everywhere like a fire hose, few of which are absolute.
One friend just lost his father ( not virus related ) and another friend lost his aunt ( virus related ).
That’s now and that hurts.
Wonder if Kevin Costner’s the Postman is streamable – got a kick out of Tom Petty in that and though I haven’t seen it in years, might be a fun watch!
Y’all be good!Local charity thrift store has a pile of junk that stretches around the building – from a picture it looks like it’s 4 to 6 feet high and at least 50 feet long. And of course there are people are rooting through it , throwing stuff around, making a real mess.
How many volunteers us it going to take to clean this up when or if they can reopen?
People want to get rid of their stuff because it’s in the way, scavengers find value and transfer it, now and forever.
Add value!Games, games, games – many of which I thought were never going to sell.
Last night a buyer wrote that his kids were driving him nuts, please ship ASAP.
Happy to help!
We have the stay at home order but it hasn’t applied to grocery, drug stores – there is a list, and post offices are open and normal ( though mine just installed plexiglass screens and 6 foot tape marks!)
Using the eBay pre-printed labels makes it super simple, there are so many ebayers and the clerks know everyone so that you can often drop the boxes without standing in line anyway.
Also dropped off a large package at FedEx this weekend, no issues.
Everyone working a service job now has got to be stressed out of their minds.
Also putting hanging packages in plastic bags on the mail box, the carrier picks them up , no appointment , nothing huge though.
Weird going out these days! -
