EBay’s “ai” descriptions are meaningless and very funny, mostly random words taken out of the title embellished with how life changing the opportunity to own the item will be for the buyer.
Slightly annoying is that eBay no longer populates the description with the title – another cut and paste (wa wa wa)
More annoying is when ya type in a detailed description ( I started selling in the Stone Age and like to write real descriptions) and accidentally bump the use ai button which replaces everything with hyperbolic drivel!
For the first few weeks I was adding “ this description written by a human “ but, seriously, who reads that stuff!
do all listing from the phone, your mileage may vary
Thanks that was my best guess !!!
Despite the fact that there are many eBay discussions out there, yours have been the most honest and level headed. And enjoyable. Thanks.
I kept trying to come up with the best question to call in, and never did. And now it is too late!
You never sought celebrity status but to many of us, that is exactly what you have attained. Someday when you least expect it people will wander into the hills of Virginia and stare across a coffee shop trying to get the nerve to speak to a couple of people who really made a difference.
bon voyage!
The last 2 surviving Monkees are touring through the fall – which might generate some nostalgia .
Insults about shipping charges are inevitable result of the Cult Of Free Shippng!
Most questions that come in are now “how dare you charge so much for shipping!” ‘almost always from the other side of the country. And offers come in that deduct exactly the shipping cost.
I just reply “here’s the weight and dimensions, we use calculated shipping, what you see is what you get.”
So, practical question – I have about 30 random cards, most left over from the 60s, all sports including hockey.
Every time I research them the price range for any card is all over the board, they look the same to me, but the range is from $1 to $500 for the same card.
so , what’s the advantage of sending to a grading service ? If they come back at $5 I’d be unhappy to have waited 6 months and paid $40 for a grading. I don’t see any huge stars but I’m not a sports guy.
I think I’ll put up detailed descriptions and 12 photos each , as is, at the median price.
imagine the nutso condition sports guys will set me straight, I just want to get rid of them!
Once helped a friend clean out a WW2 vets house – he had kept everything, lots of cool militaria equipment and documents – and 6 live grenades sitting on a metal utility shelf in the corner. She had the local police chief in to handle his safe of weapons and they got the grenades out safely.
I agree it is shocking to think how many adults had to pay no attention to allow an accident like this to happen
speaking of weird surprises, once bought an HO train car on eBay ( less than 5 bucks ) that was full of Valium pills. FULL! Disposed of them at one of those pill turn in events and never heard from or said a word to the seller. But there’s got to be a story there!
Tubes are all over the place. In fact Steve’s post reminds me that I have a 12 foot carpet tube in the garage which I should probably cut down- which I do with a small bandsaw. Which I also use to cut hard styrofoam for packing , including, yes, plugs for the ends of the tubes!!!
I have shipped a lot of posters and have gotten to point where I will use a tube inside of one of the triangular priority mail piste boxes. Almost always have to cut them down, they are usually too long. Usually happier with a tube in a square box, even if I fold it myself.
Have had 2 issues through the years with the triangular boxes smashed, maybe on purpose by an irritable delivery person, but the poster was ruined.
Used to try to get them to go first class but for anything large ( 40×27 movie ) priority is the only choice
oh, also use paper to wrap.

Of course, in true scavenger fashion, using only LEDs harvested from broken toys or electronics, still have to find one more. But the colors are COOL!

Time to part out a couple of turntables I just can’t quite get to work.
And if I’ve managed to fix one old 8-track player ( down to 3 burned out track light indicator bulbs.)
But as Ryanne and Jay said in the podcast, every week you feature several things from my “enthusiasm collection” ( beta machines sell? I have 2! Built models? C’mon) and I want to officially say THANKS
Sent a large box cross country ( to LA area ) using FedEx ground, slated for delivery Friday , arrived in their Las Vegas hub and sat there. Friday their website changed to scheduled delivery Saturday. Finally departed Vegas tonight ( Saturday ) but delivery date is now listed only as “pending.”
luckily everything else has been on time, but
‘tis the season
Print out your pictures and put a listing up of “photos of rare pastel vintage box” and sell them!

and yeah, the dimensions ARE suddenly backwards.
really funny, mild annoyance, but funny!
10/21/2020 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Shipping page defaults to a more expensive method of shipping. #82690Weird! Went to ship a 1 pound Priority package today and eBay defaulted to fed ex OVER NIGHT! Buyer paid 9 bucks, eBay selects $45!
thanks to scavenger life I was paying attention! C’mon Barry in programming wake up
