It appears not to be available on the desktop version. I’m curious about trying it but prefer to do listings on the desktop and then add phone pics to drafts. Any feedback?

50% to 75% of the text in the listings I do consist of descriptions of what’s wrong with the item. e.g.
Hewlett Packard HP 71B with HP optical scanner and Zenwand. No manuals or packaging; supplied with a CD-ROM from the Museum of HP Calculators which has the manual (according to the consignor). Handwritten notes on operation of barcode scanner. Condition: Small dents and marks to metal fascia; small area of discolouration to fascia in panel below “Hewlett Packard” text. Other minor marks. Fascia and number keys are light tan colour.
Would be good if an AI bot could do that 🙂 Point and Appraise.

It’s hot worthless garbage. You aren’t missing anything.
the only thing it could possibly do for you is open yourself to an INAD. just a big word salad that adds no value at all.

I looked at ChatGPT and the first example it showed on the left was “Improve my post for selling a vacuum in good condition”. Tried it.
Title: “High-Quality Vacuum Cleaner in Excellent Condition – Must See!”
Description:
Are you tired of lugging around that heavy, outdated vacuum cleaner that barely gets the job done? It’s time for an upgrade, and I’ve got just the solution for you!
I’m selling a top-of-the-line vacuum cleaner in impeccable condition that will make your cleaning routine a breeze. Here are some key details to get you excited:”
And so on.
Signing up requires a functioning mobile phone number, so use a burner and a random Gmail account.

I agree the automatic Chat GPT tool is worthless (beyond worthless why would eBay even want to Beta test a word-salad generator).
However the Chat GPT website can be a super-powerful tool when it’s used as an assistant.
I posted this conversation I had with Chat GPT in another forum post – but here it is again.
One important reminder:
Chat GPT will make stuff up, so if it is a topic you know nothing about, be sure to double check the facts. You can also just say to Chat GPT “Can you fact check that last statement?”

I tried using Chat GPT to write some listing descriptions based on the title. The results remind me of stuff I would write in a high school essay when the assignment required a word minimum. Basically, long winded promotional bull crap text that says nothing of value.
Also, it kept reusing certain phrases. Apparently, Chat GPT assumes anything vintage is “meticulously crafted” and helps conjure memories of “yesteryears.”
I did have better luck when I was more specific in the tone I wanted. For example, I had a vintage airline item and I told it I wanted the promotional text to be written in the style of a pilot making an announcement to the passengers. That text blurb was at least a little more fun.

You have to rein in ChatGPT to avoid using dumb phrases. I have it set so that it’s not permitted to say “you can rest assured.” I usually instruct it not to make any declarative statements about how the customer will feel.
It works best when you use it for checking grammar and clarity or, as in the example above, when you want to synthesize information from multiple sources.
Lets to it’s own devises, it’s just a bullshit machine.

EBay’s “ai” descriptions are meaningless and very funny, mostly random words taken out of the title embellished with how life changing the opportunity to own the item will be for the buyer.
Slightly annoying is that eBay no longer populates the description with the title – another cut and paste (wa wa wa)
More annoying is when ya type in a detailed description ( I started selling in the Stone Age and like to write real descriptions) and accidentally bump the use ai button which replaces everything with hyperbolic drivel!
For the first few weeks I was adding “ this description written by a human “ but, seriously, who reads that stuff!
do all listing from the phone, your mileage may vary
