Just got an email from the regional goodwill stores – they are asking that people stop donating since the stores are closed. The email includes a picture of stuff piled high on the side of the building – drenched in the pouring rain.
You have to wonder how people could be that clueless, but this does reinforce the idea mentioned the people are still spring cleaning since they are stuck at home and there will be an absolute glut of donated merchandise once the stores open.
A couple of weeks ago another goodwill message centered around how many programs and people are supported by their services. This thing is hitting everybody.Mostly quiet, but a sale a day. Using the time to actually finish ( lol Start!) the repairs on items I haven’t listed.
5 or six done today.
Never thought I would actually have the time to disassemble and clean electronic switches that are under a quarter inch long.
Time on my hands.Yesterday, email from Goodwill about staying open to provide availability of donated goods for those who rely upon them. Also, expanding the disinfecting. And , honestly, there aren’t many retail stores that spray most items down. ( my kids hate thrift store smell )
Today? Closing them all for at least the rest of the month.
Liquor stores also shut down ( those were some crazy lines! )
Keep selling my listing backup. People still want this old curated crap.Have to admit that I was coming at this from a somewhat less dire – people are going to stuck at home with nothing to do, and that often leads to more time to shop online- so hopefully they will turn to eBay and maybe even look for things to pass the time, enhance collections, etc.
I was forced to travel for work today and there are at least half as many passengers as usual. Planes loading fast, leaving on time, arriving early. The sun is shining and I wiped everything down. Wish me luck!Remember that the beta format was used by professional news organizations, for many years after it had lost traction in the consumer world. It was a great format, high quality and great early sound recording.
I’ve sold some sealed blanks in the past couple of years, but hit or miss. It is weird how people sometimes need blank media.
I do have a box of 10 L750s that I used to record all of the Monkees episodes when they first aired on MTV in the mid 80s.
Never watched em!It seems like a Thomas character !!!
The crew at the post office thought it was hilarious!
Happy Mail Carrier DayLong Beach California!
There is a house number in the 1st address line, I should look up the street view to see if the description is accurate!
Just wonder how many packages get taken to the short house.
Major upgrades in my area, many Goodwills have been remodeled and are bright, fresh, reasonably organized and FULL of merchandise.
Lots of messaging about their charitable place in the community, many workers are benefitting.
Prices seem to have gone up in general, discounts not quite automatic ( one day for seniors, one day for military ) though the Sunday sales on one color really moves stuff out based on the number of scrubby people pushing multiple full shopping carts!
So they are investing in the business , and community.
There are MANY more customers Then a few years ago, perhaps the stigma of being seen in the stores has been fixed by the nice retail focus.
And there are tons of resellers, from the obvious flea market folks to the equally obvious people who spend their entire time scanning stuff with their phones.
Yet still many many bargains to be found, many overlooked items throughout, and lots of opportunities.Recently stopped by an outlet, again where does all the stuff come from. Have to admit that I am actually frightened by the people shopping there who seem to have devoted their lives to getting filthy. But walking through after the mad rush again, so many things overlooked so many opportunities.
Times change competition shifts anyone can still sell trash and be free. Thanks for the Mavica reminder ! It was a game changer, people used to compliment my pictures with that thing (macro setting!)
Still have it and the replacement, see them in resale shops for pennies.
And guess it’s time to get rid of the several hundred floppies in several boxes somewhere! Also still have the first photos ever taken for eBay, film camera , developed at a photo place, then scanned, then “html” into the eBay description. On dial up.
Yikes.
Happy New Year!

Seems a stretch but have you checked to their seller account?
Nothing else makes any sense.Aha, money orders… auctions…
This one just happened – when you give gifts from unsold inventory – and they love em!

When your daughter’s in-laws drop by for Christmas Eve bearing a bag of bubble wrap and air packs “Just what I wanted!!!!”
Thanks for putting this discussion up!
He seems to be connected and aware of the realities of the marketplace / love the differentiation between some one selling phone cases and someone selling collectibles. The buyers in each category DO have varied expectations! And also agree with the GTC perspective. If I learned anything from SCAVENGER LIFE it is list it and forget it. Theres no conspiracy that will overcome having something for sale that someone wants. Even if it takes a year or more, the right buyer will match up.

Thanks for the support!
Quickly realizing that the work vs reward ratio on most media is just not worth it. Just went through about 50 books and DVDs on eBay – optimistically could get 5 to 6 bucks ( if I pay shipping) and that’s not worth my time. Donating to the library and moving on.
Ditto!
If you are on this forum you will learn a lot.
Start with what you dig, and learn. Everything you list or sell you will learn something. Not everything will work, but more will than won’t.
And I am a fan of Steve’s what sold and Jay ‘n’ Ryanne ‘s stories because they have all opened up new categories for me – train your eyes and keep them open!
My eyes are sharp tuned for WW2 US uniforms, I can spot those colors on a rack across a room. Don’t find them much anymore, but I’ll never lose the skill! -
