Wow. Just wow. 2020 is certainly turning out to be one hell of a crazy year…..

I wonder what put them over the edge? Maybe 2 decades of articles like “eBay gives out free shipping supplies coupon to store owners – is this the end of eBay?”, “eBay in death spiral after stock falls by 0.00000000001 of a point”, and “Unpaid eBay intern fails to deliver coffee to CEO – eBay’s 4th quarter earnings now in jeopardy” finally took its toll on them?
Just kidding. Reprehensible behavior by eBay. The good news here is that this is enough drama to keep ecommercebytes writing 100 articles a day for the next 5,000 years.

Yeah, it’s seriously criminal what those employees did, but Ina now has even more grist for the mill.
I wonder if she’ll sue. Make $ from eBay to shut up about it.

I’m not sure we have heard the whole story on this yet, “Or the rest of the story”.

This is nuts. I think Ebay needs to keep cleaning house. Allegedly they had trouble in the past hiring good talent.

This just shows what a terrible and toxic environment ebay was behind the scenes the last few years. I’m not surprised at all. What else was in the CEO’s communications that they alluded to when clearing him of criminal charges? Apparently it was pretty damning.
Things have been legitimately improving with Jordan at the helm. I hope this does not derail the positive momentum too much.

Here’s Jordan’s official response: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/A-message-from-Jordan-Jordan-Sweetnam-SVP-GM-North-America/ba-p/31012551
eBay just needs leaders who understand that it’s made up of smaller sellers. Stop trying to be Amazon. Embrace the community and Ecommerce Bytes wont have negatives to point out.

Allegedly the former CEO is reported to have texted, “Take her down” in response to an article written by the blogger. As I’m sure he can afford the best lawyers, he’ll probably emerge relatively scot-free with just some reputational damage. That a CEO of a billion dollar company would even bother caring about one blogger to this extent is nuts. It reminds me of the HBO series Succession or Billions.

That is the craziest story I have read in a long time. How in the world did these people think they could get away with this!? I agree with you Jay, ebay needs to stop trying to be Amazon, they can never compete with them.

Wow! That is psychotic behavior! Each of them could be sentenced to 10 years if convicted. I’ve worked in some rather dysfunctional places before but nothing that would rise to this level of insanity. The fact that it wasn’t one guy with a screw loose but rather a group of high level executives who all went along with this is blowing my mind! The victims will rightly get a big settlement out of this I’m sure.

The titles of the indicted read like a CIA org chart.

I just read the Boston Globe article. It’s The Godfather meets Silicon Valley. I hope eBay is working on its corporate culture because this is soooooo bad.

Ebay needs to stop trying to be Amazon and start trying to be Ebay. Poshmark, Mercari, etc. aren’t going to compete with Amazon, but they are competing with Ebay. There’s a reason why there was a demand for people to seek alternative platforms. I’ve defended Ebay for years btw but it’s really starting to become just too much nonsense lately.

Ebay needs to stop trying to be Amazon and start trying to be Ebay.
I think they’re actually slowly figuring this out these days, under the new leadership. I really like their new radio ads – something along the lines of “ebay: where small businesses live” – I forget the exact phrasing.
