Jay: I listened, again, to the last podcast. Ryanne mentioned: https://archive.org/search?query=Scavenger+Life
Jay, Ryanne: what is the website where your podcasts are archived?
Post office shipping going up on January 22.
I am posting my comments again without the Microsoft Word formatting:
Recently, had an experience on eBay that I want to share. You may think I am making up a story, but this is true and makes me nervous about listing certain items on eBay.
I should state that eBay did back me up this time, reimbursed me, but I had a previous, similar experience where I lost about $400.
2022-10-25: I sold a new, unopened Apple Ultra watch for $979.00: https://www.ebay.com/itm/394298442897
2022-10-25: USPS tracking indicates I printed the shipping label and dropped it off at my local post office.
2022-10-27: USPS tracking indicates the item, Apple Ultra Watch was delivered to the buyer.
Approx. 2022-10-29: The buyer opens a case stating that they want to return the item. I was not happy as this is an expensive item and if the package is opened, I will have to reduce the price when I resell it.
Approx. 2022-11-01: I have not heard anything more from the buyer concerning the return.
Approx. 2022-11-06: eBay contacts me (via messages) stating that they are taking the ~$979 out of my account to refund the buyer. I did not receive the Apple Watch back.
Approx. 2022-11-07: I opened a case with eBay stating that the buyer did not return the Apple watch. EBay messaged me stating that they are looking into the issue.
Approx. 2022-11-08: eBay messages me stating that they are siding with the buyer, they are taking the $979 out of my account.
At this point, things get interesting. I review the tacking and I have attached screen shots here:
My tracking for selling the item and shipping to the buyer: SellerUSPSTracking.png
The seller’s return tracking: FedExReturnTracking.png
My tracking for shipping the item: October 25, 2022 through October 27. 2022
Seller’s return tracking: October 22, 2022 through October 24, 2022
Note that the seller’s return tracking dates occurred prior to me shipping the item, which is not possible.
EBay reviewed this information and ended up refunding my $979.
I think I am quite fortunate that this scammer buyer messed up the tracking or I would have been out close to $1,000. I think there are sophisticated scammers out there who buy expensive items on eBay and conduct these scams. I had a similar issue in 2021 with an Apple Watch where I lost something like $400. I never received the item back and the tracking somehow showed it was delivered to my house. I live in a small rural farming community. I seriously doubt that we have a porch pirate issue. This is especially true as I work from home for my full-time (non-eBay) job and I see the postal carrier deliver our mail.
For my little eBay store (~250 items) things have sold pretty good lately. One thing I noticed recently is that when I list stuff, my new stuff tends to sell instead of the older stuff. That’s not entirely true, but it seems to have shifted a bit from how eBay sales occurred months ago. Oh well, at least something is selling.
Your flute story kind of resinated with me. Probably 9 years ago a woman in my wife’s office gave us her daughter’s flute as our daughter was learngin how to play the flute in school. Not long after we got the flute it needed some repairs. I took it to a music shop. They said we could make some minor repairs for a small amount of $ so we did those repairs. It didn’t last long. We took it back to the shop. I asked if they’d buy it off me. The woman looked at it and asked, “Woudl you take $100 for it?”. I did my best to say, “Yes”, without a smile on my face.
We bought her a better flute from someone else.
Mark S: That could be a pretty sweet pipeline if the shoes he provides are not all filthy worn out sneakers. Good luck.
Are you finding it difficult to locate a helper or have you decided to just wait on tat a bit?
Even Amazon finds it difficult to make a profit selling on Amazon:

Has anyone used the QR code in place of shipping labels? I paid for my eBay shipping label, generated it and a packing slip, but my print was messed up. I tried to use the QR code, but I think it was too late as I’d already generated the labels. I cancelled the labels and the QR code option was no lomnger available. I just bought postage at the post office. I tried to use these instructions.

J&R: Wow those are slow sales. Hope it picks up.
I hope you don’t consider this to be spam because that’s not how I intended it, but I recently listened (again) to a Planet Money podcast on escheat laws. You might have $ being held for you.
https://www.npr.org/2020/01/24/799345159/episode-967-escheat-show
I went and check, filled out the form for Illinois escheat funds. The Illinois comptroller’s office sent me a check for $17.30. For Illinois residents go to: https://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov/
For escheat websites for other states just Google: escheat <your state>. Most states have these laws where the state holds abandoned bank accounts, old uncashed paychecks, etc. I looked up some friends and relatives on the Illinois site. Some had $ being held for them too.
I recevie no payment or kickback by telling you to check for your escheat funds. Just passing along info I have learned that might help others.
The eBay Payments >> Reports >> Transaction Report is useless. I generated the report 5.5 hours ago. The download link appears, but when I click on the download link it does nothing. Does this report (a month’s worh of data) take several hours to generate?
Hope you had a nice time in New York.
Jay, Ryanne: Congratulations on the 1-year anniversary of the coffee shop.
