We had a good week of sales. Our highest sale was only $75, but we simply sold more items than usual. It feels our store is humming along. Our current

Average Price Sold: $46.75

Number of items listed this week: 27Week turned out ok, but was hoping for better. Looking at the breakdown and my final value fees are over 30%. That does not include promoted fees. Is that normal? I thought it was much lower previously but haven’t been paying attention.
I’m proud to say that I made it to the bottom of my Christmas bin and started listing some ornaments we inherited, with just a few of those left. I also finally located my small Thanksgiving hoard and got that listed just in time. Most was Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma and sold right away. So, finally almost through the holiday piles. This week should be ok for listing knock wood.
J&R I always have thought maybe you drive into the metro area during the week and do some sourcing, bring it back to your lair in the country with warehouse. You know the quality stuff. You might get some stuff in your mix that is not so long tail.

11/20/22 – 11/26/22
Total Items In ebay Store: 4713
Total Items In Etsy Store: 106

Etsy Items Sold: 0Gross Sales: $658.10 (including eBay fees, shipping, and taxes)
Net Sales: $556.39 (minus eBay fees, shipping, and taxes)

Average Price Sold: $ 39.74

Gut Sales Report for the week: Sales ended up being better than I thought they were. Real slow week for this time of year for me.
Focus for the week : Many concurrent things going – trying to get my 1800 vintage listings on Etsy, I have only 106 listed on Etsy in the last week so far. Trying to enter all my items that I have bought. I need to find a new photographer.
Scavenge of the week: I was looking at some really old books I found last week. Some are really amazing like a 1800’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Very Good Condition. I love looking at the old things like that. I know they are longer tail, but very interesting to me. At least they should fetch a good price and I paid nearly nothing for them.
Thoughts for the week: I am hoping to double my sales by also getting listed on Etsy, Poshmark, and FB in that order. However, not liking the time commitment. It takes about 2 min each for Etsy because I am using a tag generator and making my own tags. Hope that helps a lot.
This is how I see my projected breakdown if I can cross-list everything as of right now:
ebay 4713 About $3000\month – This is currently what I am doing on ebay.
Etsy 1833 Has about .55X str of ebay, so sales should be about $652\month (only 106 currently listed)
Posh 1997.5 Has about 1X str of ebay, so sales should be about $1290\month
FB 4465 Has about .5X str of ebay, so sales should be about $1441\month
Total Projected Additional $3383 per month, which is a little more than what I am currently doing on ebay.
The projected STR for Etsy is based on what I have heard a lot of sellers reporting. That is why I am starting with Etsy – I have more data on that projection.
Posh comes from a youtuber who did an experiment and actually sold more shoes and clothes on Poshmark than ebay in 6 months time with same items at same price.
Facebook is also based off the same youtuber who did an experiment for 6 months. She had more sales on FB than ebay, but I think FB will be more dependent on exatcly what you sell, so I am being conservative with 50% STR of that on ebay.
Of course, this is just my estimate. Results will vary by exactly what I am selling versus what others are reporting. If you have numbers of your own related to this, let me know. That would help with my projections.

@Mark S – It is a bit of a slog to get things cross listed initially, but once it is part of your routine, cross-listing new items is not too bad, though I am using Sixbit so a different workflow. I’m sure you’ll benefit from your efforts.

Lukastreasure,
Yes, I am looking forward to when I just have to cross-list new items. But as you can see, I am trying to cross-list 8,295 cross lists. That will take me over a year at my set routine of about 135 a week. I am just keeping the end game in mind. If this will double my sales as I have projected, it will be worth it.
Has Etsy been doing about 50% of ebay’s STR for you?

@Mark-s – Etsy accounts for about 15% of my sales since January, but I only have about 25% of my inventory on Etsy. I started with my high $ listings and worked my way down, stopping at around $50 with some exceptions, and any item made after 2003 can’t be listed on Etsy since it isn’t considered vintage. I do list items worth less than $50 now, but didn’t initially.

That is good news. So, Etsy is selling at 60% of ebay STR for you. That is better than my projection of 55%. I would be very happy with 60%.

Here is that Youtubers experiment from about 1 year ago.
Go to 15:35 to see the final numbers for each platform.
However, results may vary because we all sell different items. This was one of the few experiments of this kind that I could quickly find.

Items in Store 2046
Items Sold 20
Total Sales $827.00
COGS $76.00
Total Profit $751.00
Average profit $37.55
Average sales price $41.35
New Listings 31
Items scavenged 5
Listing 2022 weekly Avg 38Surprisingly disappointing numbers. I had 3 sales account for $505 in sales. I figured for sure I broke $1000. The ASP of my other 17 items was only $19 though.
I did get some listing done over the long weekend. I only listed 31 items but I listed alot of high dollar items. Over half were $100+. Back in October before we went through all this terrible sickness I did some organizing. As I organized I pulled high dollar items to prioritize listing. I have a shelf full of $100+ items I am focusing on.
From that shelf I listed AND sold a $250 pair of vintage levis and a $150 set of goldwing motorcycle footrests.

Sounds like fun looking for scavenging opportunities! I’ve hardly done any auctions, live or online, or been to many garage sales and the like because of my consignment deal with my neighbor. I miss that part of reselling, but I just can’t allow myself to shop. I’m starting to run out of room in my basement, and I’m now putting some boxes in our guest bedroom. On the plus side, I’ve sorted and looked through about 90% of his house, so I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll still need to list a good portion of this stuff before I feel that I’m ready to scavenge again.
Antique Frog mentioned that the UK eBay now allows up to 24 photos. The US seems to be a bit delayed, but I’m seeing that now as well. First on the desktop, and then on the cell phone a few days later.
I ran a 25% sale on my whole inventory from Nov 18 through the end of the month. At the beginning of December, I will start my normal 15% sales, but then I took advantage of an eBay incentive to try their “Promoted Listings Advanced”. This one you pay by click, so, if someone clicks on your ad, you pay whether they buy or not. eBay will refund you $30 of the fees through the end of the year. You can limit the amount you are willing to pay per click, and you can limit the amount per day that you are willing to pay. I set up the amount per click using their automated function, but limited the amount per day to $30 divided by the number of days (Dec 1 to 22). That way I shouldn’t pay for anything. Lets see what happens.
Week of Nov 20 – 26

I am posting my comments again without the Microsoft Word formatting:
Recently, had an experience on eBay that I want to share. You may think I am making up a story, but this is true and makes me nervous about listing certain items on eBay.
I should state that eBay did back me up this time, reimbursed me, but I had a previous, similar experience where I lost about $400.
2022-10-25: I sold a new, unopened Apple Ultra watch for $979.00: https://www.ebay.com/itm/394298442897
2022-10-25: USPS tracking indicates I printed the shipping label and dropped it off at my local post office.
2022-10-27: USPS tracking indicates the item, Apple Ultra Watch was delivered to the buyer.
Approx. 2022-10-29: The buyer opens a case stating that they want to return the item. I was not happy as this is an expensive item and if the package is opened, I will have to reduce the price when I resell it.
Approx. 2022-11-01: I have not heard anything more from the buyer concerning the return.
Approx. 2022-11-06: eBay contacts me (via messages) stating that they are taking the ~$979 out of my account to refund the buyer. I did not receive the Apple Watch back.
Approx. 2022-11-07: I opened a case with eBay stating that the buyer did not return the Apple watch. EBay messaged me stating that they are looking into the issue.
Approx. 2022-11-08: eBay messages me stating that they are siding with the buyer, they are taking the $979 out of my account.
At this point, things get interesting. I review the tacking and I have attached screen shots here:
My tracking for selling the item and shipping to the buyer: SellerUSPSTracking.png
The seller’s return tracking: FedExReturnTracking.png
My tracking for shipping the item: October 25, 2022 through October 27. 2022
Seller’s return tracking: October 22, 2022 through October 24, 2022
Note that the seller’s return tracking dates occurred prior to me shipping the item, which is not possible.
EBay reviewed this information and ended up refunding my $979.
I think I am quite fortunate that this scammer buyer messed up the tracking or I would have been out close to $1,000. I think there are sophisticated scammers out there who buy expensive items on eBay and conduct these scams. I had a similar issue in 2021 with an Apple Watch where I lost something like $400. I never received the item back and the tracking somehow showed it was delivered to my house. I live in a small rural farming community. I seriously doubt that we have a porch pirate issue. This is especially true as I work from home for my full-time (non-eBay) job and I see the postal carrier deliver our mail.

Money Spent on New Inventory: $0.00
Average Days Listed: 248
Longest Listed: 846
New items listed: 17Above average sales for the year, but not good for the holiday season. Really feeling like the effort cross listing to Etsy is paying off somewhat as Etsy accounted for 40% of my sales, which would have been way below average without it.
I am running a 20% off sale on my inventory over 2 years old and seeing very little activity on it. Just under half my store inventory is over two years old.
Holiday week kept me from listing as much as I’d hoped and was compounded by Cecile coming back from her trip to Thailand with COVID. She fortunately had a mild case and miraculously no one else in the family caught it. It did cause us to cancel all holiday plans and we ate Thanksgiving dinner spread across the house to try and limit transmission.
Hoping things pick up.

Hello. I’ve posted once here some many months ago in a numbers thread with high spirits about my ride to the moon on my eBay sales, but now I’m back in reality and decided its a good time to start sharing numbers for my eBay store. I started it in 2021 and sales have been up and down and then way down after I picked up consignment.
- Total Items Listed: 808
- New items Listed: 19
- Items Sold: 27 (+9)
- Items Returned: 0
- Gross Sales: $406.13 (+$155.67)
- Cost of Goods Sold: $64.04
- Consignment Owed: $8.86
- Net Profit: $333.23 (+$165.01)
My sales aren’t the best but I’ll just keep moving forward and listing my own inventory. I’ve made less than $500 from consignment in the last 6 months from 2 weeks of work sorting through items and creating 200-300 listings… and now I’m thinking it might not be for me as the stuff I’ve sold I could’ve bought for less. It was nice getting stuff for free and things I wouldn’t normally sell but it’s a lot to manage. And managing a consignors expectations is a LOT of work. Not the type of work I enjoy.
-
11/30/2022 at 9:15 pm #98525
yep, that’s why I’ve never done it and have flat out turned down opportunities. If the stuff is good enough I’d rather just buy the stuff and be done with the person.
It sounds like you consigned low dollar long tail items. That definitely isn’t worth it!
High dollar, quick sale, low return risk. That’s the gold standard.

Agree with Retro. If you improve your scavenger game, you’ll be able to find good items for cheap. Then you keep all the profit.
As you said, once you start selling for someone, they often start acting like you work for them. No thanks!
