Welcome to Long Tail Life! We had a good week of weird item sales. Old lamps, old paintings, old shoes, old pens, old sweaters, old pants, old forks,

Number of items listed: 42Gut Sales Report for the week: Sales were still good, but not as strong as last week.
Focus for the week : Getting items over to my photographer so that I have an inventory of items to list.
Scavenge of the week: Got some great winter coats that I mentioned in another post – 6 coats worth nearly $800
Thoughts for the week: I ran into a guy at his garage sale that does storage clean. I had bought some decent shoes from him before. By Mikey’s terminology, a repeat offender (for garage sales). I found out he was basically throwing out the shoes because they took up too much space. I gave him my number for him to call when he gets enough shoes. I hope this works out.
My “deal” at the thrift store that I posted a while ago is still going strong. I believe I will have an incredible inventory for the busy season this year. So, in all, things are looking up and I am trying to grow my store with deals like these that make scavenging much easier.

Mark S: That could be a pretty sweet pipeline if the shoes he provides are not all filthy worn out sneakers. Good luck.

Brian B,
Yes, last time I went to his garage sale, he had nice Air Jordans, Dr. Martens, etc. If I can get similar shoes to that, I will be all set.

Number of items listed this week: 18It was a very slow week of sales for me. Yarn is selling well and getting offers. I think it’s my favorite new thing to pick up. Last week my post disappeared but it was busier than I thought. I hardly ever have broken items or returns but I had one of each last week. Also hard to get motivated for me post-Covid even though school has started. Kind of just had the blahs. So, I really, really need to kick myself into gear and get listing this week. Today I have some good time to list. My sales are usually quite good in October and November.

Number of items listed this week: 35+I’m not really sure how many items I listed, but I kept track one day because I was on a an absolute tear, and I hit around 30 in one day. I’ve worked every day this last week, so it’s probably closer to 40-50, but I’ll be conservative to be safe.
I don’t have my numbers for TCGPlayer as easily broken down as the eBay ones, so we’ll just stick with this side of the business for a bit. Sold a few PSA graded Pokemon cards, a bunch of found-in-a-dumpster items (copper chef skillet NIB, pair of Converse shoes, a pocket watch, some lotions), but my favorite sale of the week was 11 pounds of pre-1982 copper pennies.
I’ve been saving my pocket change for a year or two, and setting all the copper pennies aside. For $16.50 in face value of pennies, I got $40.76 after shipping. By the time you factor in fees and shipping, I pocketed $26 and some change, meaning I made $10 just by taking a few seconds every time I had money in my pocket to sift out the copper. Not too shabby, if you ask me!

Can you elaborate a little more on how google lens has been a game changer for you.
Thanks

Sure! I just recently discovered Google Lens. When researching, sometimes getting key works to research or even knowing what an item was used for was hard and I’d often go down a rabbit hole.
Most of our product is from weekly auctions where we buy “box lots”. I’ve learned over the years, that what I think is valuable and what really is valuable in those junk boxes varies greatly:)
Now I just open the google app on my phone, point it at every object and snap a photo. Usually, Google will tell me what it is and where it’s listed and at what price. I can then decide if it’s worth listing. If I decide to list it, I will usually search ebay solds to get a better idea of a listing price. 90% of the time, Google is reliable. BUT, sometimes it fails too and a bit more research on my part is required. I can research so many more products in a much shorter time using Google.

Number of items listed this week: 2It was a much slower week than I had realized. I just came back from vacation, and I was trying to get stuff listed for my neighbor. He is getting more serious about buying a home in an active adult community, so he needs a faster pace for cleaning up. His wife really was quite the hoarder. I am preventing myself from buying any new inventory so that I can make better progress.

Sourcing Allotment 15Busy week this week outside of ebay. I was able to create a bunch of draft listings but only got 20 photographed and listed. I’m really surprised I didn’t crack $1000 this week as I had 3 $100+ sales. 12 clothing items sold this week for $362. One of them was a Baseball jersey for $140. Must be some back to school shopping going on as that is alot of clothing in one week for me.

The first time it turned out I would get a refund like that was the last time I asked for an extension to file. 🙂 Still, congratulations on the bittersweet windfall!

It is exciting to see the new Scavenge of the week / Sale of the week forum to hopefully give us another thread for discussions throughout the week. Especially those of you who are reading but may not post your numbers every week! I am excited to hear more about everyone’s sales and what they find. I got more items listed than usual last week, and I’m sure that the forum being so active had a lot to do with why.
