karlacreekbank,
Mobile browsing/shopping (phone or tablet using the website or app) in general has been shown to be on the rise, so while not a crisis, it may be a good thing to work on resolving the issue. We are heading into hot weather/summer/ beach season, so mobile browsing/shopping will definately be in full swing.
I found this interesting article I thought I would share:

Jay,
Some things are best left to individual interpretation verse someone else’s.
It is interesting that he never addresses the concept of INAD (in a show that is seller focused) but instead strongly emphasizes the buyer focus of returns and articulates that most likely cases will be found in favor of the buyer. He later goes on to say more about returns even articulating that he thinks there should only be 2 types of returns.
Remember, the hosts and show are part of ebay’s marketing team. Marketing to sellers and buyers is one of ebay’s strengths. It is important to listen to how returns are being marketed to sellers.

Jay,
Thank you for reposting my post. There does seem to be some kind of technical glitch because even when I close out of SL and come back in to edit, the posts get lost.
Rob,
I think it is very important that all sellers listen to the segment you included, so I am putting it in a seperate thread to make it highly visible.Labels/identifiers are my goal when sourcing and/or listing and are what I focus on. If something does not have a label, I will simply name what it is and put the title of what I think it is at the end with a question mark.
For example, if I find a piece of art (a painting) and I know it is by such and such but the markings have come off, I would name the piece of art- flowers in a basket painting by such and such?Nancy,
Provenance is a good point.
Unfortunately, when it comes to proving something is real or fake, the full responsiblity is with the seller and/or with the ebay authentification team if they get involved.
Jay,
My response to you is gone. I completely exited SL and then went back in to edit the post but that seemed to get it deleted. Would you please post it?
Mike,
You specialize in art. What do you do if you come across a piece of art – glass, painting, drawing, sculpture- and it looks like the real thing but has no clear identifying markers except for maybe how it was made? How do you go about listing it?
Yes Jay,
Ebay can be that simple. But if the seller is using an item specificier as a selling point, it would be good to know that the item being sold matches the specifier. If the seller chose to do it the way you say, that is a different story.
Jay,
There are people who specialize in glass art and art in general, so they would know markers that would be tell tale signs that the item is real and not a recreation. The sold listing you provided leaves alot of questions. I wonder what happened after purchasing the item? If I was buying something for a large amount of money like $1200.00, I sure would want to know it was authentic and not a knock off.
Let’s say the buyer gets the item home and starts looking for identifiers (as many collectors would) and there are none. What then? Either they rely on their own knowledge and assume that what they bought is authentic or they call and complain and possibly claim fraud.
Would you buy something for hundreds or thousands of dollars and assume its authenticity simply because someone sold it to as an authentic piece although there were no identifiers making it so?

I would offer that if it is one of those special pieces with no real identifiers but worth some money, you may want to get a professional (who can see it up close) to appraise it. Even it someone in here knows alot, if they can not actually see it in order to appraise it, I would not think their opinion would hold much weight if the validity of it gets called into question by a buyer.
I did a little research and think it may be a German police officer.
The crosses in these pictures look similar to the one on the belt and hat.

You point out the easy and hard part of selling/doing business – it can be such a personal endeavor evoking very strong personal reactions/response patterns but it can also be just an objective matter of fact set of transactions. And sometimes it can be a mix of both. The line can be hard to find sometimes.
Always a Trade Off U.K.,
1. I would offer that there is no such thing as an anonymous picture grab on the internet.
2. Pictures posted by sellers on ebay are copyright protected.
3. According to the forum statistics posted below, there are 3,595 members, so it is possible that an “anonymous picture” could be actually be that of a member or that of a member’s friend or family member. If it is, it would leave the member in a precarious situation. Do they publically comment that the picture or listing is theirs or that of someone they know and yes they agree it is bad or do they comment in the forum that they do not appreciate their picture or listing being included and want it taken down? Or do they message J&R directly about it in order to have it removed?
4. Anything that is public and community based such as SL can not hold space for the public tearing down of others work because it then no longer serves as a safe space for all to participate in and can create a very hostile environment.
5. If a seller wants to share their listing and/or pictures and openly asks for feedback (good or bad) that is a different story because they knowingly chose to submit the picture and/or listing for feedback.I would offer that with this being a public forum which is accessible to anyone world wide, posting listings with any kind of seller identifiers under the category of worst listing/photo may not be the direction to go in especially because it could negatively effect a seller. I am not a lawyer, but I believe that if a seller is negatively effected by another posting about them in a negative light, it may be actionable.
In addition, calling out sellers can lead to somewhat of a negative environment in this forum. This would be especially so if it is one of our listings/pictures that unknowingly gets submitted because the names we use in here are not necessarily connected to our stores.
I would offer that the best way to do it would be the way Ryanne did it. She simply offered an example with details with no picture or seller identifiers.
