Wow! Talk about dramatics in marketing.
You have to give it to ebay. If they do one thing right, it’s hire really good spin doctors.
aperture,
Yes, that is what I was referring to. I think your statement is right on -“I do appreciate that I am walking through the remnants of someones life.”
It’s the knowing that what we are walking into/looking at/touching/buying is from someone’s life, what they valued, how they created their environment, their self expression, and their presensence on this planet. Many of the items that we pick up were of great value (personal or financial) to that person at one time and now they are just considered items for sale and their house (once their home/safe place/life center)is just considered a holding place for their items.

Do any of you fellow scavengers find it challenging to know that sometimes when you source, you are sourcing from someone’s life “story”?
Mike,
The link you shared is the one for this thread. Is it wide enough and long enough to hold letters/ mail? If so, you could put that in the title along with the words business card.

anniethrifts,
I am sorry to hear of your situation. This is behavior ebay is teaching and reinforcing in buyers. This is where Top Rated Sellers and those with Anchor stores need to (as a collective) let ebay know that their practices are encouraging these kind of behaviors and their focus on what benefits them as a company does not benefit sellers but instead hurts them. If ebay took a stronger stand and balanced out the platform, buyers would think twice about this. So, will this buyer be reported in anyway that may serve to restrict their ebay priviledges?

Julie B,
Who knew that that stuff happens in the real world? It sounds like something that would happen on a TV show and then I would walk away thinking – “that is really creative writing because that kind of stuff does not happen in the real world”.
Julie,
I don’t understand how putting something up for sale on a website to the general public and then having someone buy it is money laundering.A. Lyric,
I am so sorry to hear about what you and your husband have been through. Take it one minute, one day, one experience at a time.
As for your listings, I concur with ChristineR. Have sales on the stuff in good condition and maybe think about redonating anything that is in questionable condition.
I would offer that you start slow on building new inventory so it does not become overwhelming.
Thanks for sharing. This type of video can be very helpful with sourcing.
Mike,
Thanks for sharing. It always helpful to hear from others how they achieved success.A. Lyric,
I agree with Mike. You may not want to push on this listing. If you have something that is worth a large amount of money (which is possible in this case), I would not list it until you have explored all avenues of information. I wonder if the tax number is because the jacket was registered and would be taxed upon sale because of its value. Registering something means it has value.
I looked at WorthPoint. I am not sure if the $20.00 dollars a month is worth it although I can see it being very helpful when sourcing.
At what point in your ebay selling did you consider it worth your dollar to take on more costs than those just from ebay?
Mike,
Thank you very much. That is very helpful.
I am going to look into getting WorthPoint and the new resource you identified Kovels.
Thank you again.
I have to echo everyone else’s comments. This seems like a scammer’s (all levels of scam) dream.
