Posting early and quickly due to being busy with houseguests: 33 new listings for me. I’ll still have houseguests next week so it’ll probably be lower listings again next week.
I did get to go to a fabulous church rummage sale for 12 minutes on Saturday morning. Got a bunch of great stuff for $8.50. Love those church rummage sales!!!
I love this feature! It’s worked well for me, I’ve been using it since they rolled it out originally but I haven’t tried it on the app yet. I usually just send out all the offers I can in the morning before I start listing for the day at my computer.
It does seem to jog something in eBay’s algorithm, I sometimes get someone buying the offered item at full price who must not have received the offer.
+1 on the makeup Mark S! Oddly enough I just went to a church rummage sale this morning (before I read about the makeup pipeline comment) and I bought 19 NIP cosmetics for $4.00. Turns out some are discountinued colors and one Estee Lauder lipstick I have is going for nearly $50.00! Most of the others are in the $25.00 range. The couple that are just $5.00 items I’ll keep for myself. Sure wish I had bought the other box of skincare stuff for $3.00!
Nancy I would guess that size might be about right for a piano bench. Back in the day some pianos had bench style seats with cushioned tops that opened so you could store your piano music in the seat. (Not sure if they still have that type of piano bench.) So this could be a piece meant to cover that.
I didn’t sell my canvases for nearly as much as yours but mine were for chair seats and backs. At the time I listed those it looked like the sets of 4 or more of the same design were going for good $. Unfortunately I just had a few random ones. Good luck!
Another possibility is that the buyer thinks they can resell the item for much more than they paid.
I saw an auction item with a make offer on it that I knew I could resell. My offer was 4x more than the minimum auction bid, but I knew I could resell the item for 5x what I offered. I’m sure the seller was surprised at my offer and probably would have sold it for a lot less but I wanted to make sure that I snagged the item before anyone found it and I felt like what I offered was fair to the seller.
I have found pieces similar to yours in the past (I think they were Bucilla brand) that had the design pre-worked at the factory as antarestar says above. Mine had the label still attached and they were for chair seats. You were to fill in the background color yourself to suit your decor as antarestar said. Mine were needlepoint and they were vintage. I can’t remember the date was on the label but they were way more than 20 years old. What is the measurement of the piece overall? Perhaps it is also meant for a chair seat cover or (if larger) a bench seat cover…
+1 on the Mrs. Grossman’s stickers, but the vintage ones rather than the current ones. I find that most any brand of vintage 80’s/90’s stickers sell for more than I expect they will.
I haven’t done well with boy/girl scout patches, I can’t seem to sell those…
I’ve done this with big lots of old sewing patterns. Most don’t go for much $ but when I sell them all a lot can generate hundreds of dollars of profit.
I find that the extra time I put into fixing up or improving items doesn’t pay off for me. (I’m not including easy cleaning in that statement. I don’t have any experience selling dirty items, I always clean my stuff).
I enjoy doing something other than just listing and sourcing which is why I try to add value occasionally with “extras”. If I was dependent on my on-line income I wouldn’t do this – it just doesn’t pay off for me and I’d be better off monetarily if I spent the time listing instead.
I attempt to differentiate my items from identical listings by adding something that I’ve created: doll clothes with dolls for instance. This never pays off time wise but I enjoy doing it. I guess I think at least my item will sell before the identical ones because of the “extras”.
Jay, we have the long range model 3, and I wish it was only 40K, GoodsbyGarcia! Long range Tesla’s aren’t inexpensive. I do just treat it as a work car, and I’m still too frugal to have it washed much, much to my husband’s dismay…
I just wanted to say it was great to hear the 2 of you explain that you aren’t actually against people having a Tesla or a big house if they can afford those things. I am very frugal by nature but I own both and they bring me a lot of joy.
I justify having these 2 extravagant things with my frugal nature by knowing that we paid cash for both the house and the car and have more than enough money for the rest of our lives. Our house came with solar panels and a 240 volt wall connector port for charging the Tesla so I’m actually saving a lot of money by never buying gas for the car. I also don’t have to pay for or build outside storage for my eBay inventory (I could probably store 10x the inventory I have in our basement). And I certainly don’t mind driving long distances for scavenging and I have both the front and back trunks to stash my purchases.
I had felt kind of guilty in the past for having these 2 extravagant things but I also know how hard my husband and I worked to get here. No one ever gave us anything, we bootstrapped our way here through nearly 30 years of 7 days a week work right out of highschool and now are enjoying the fruits of our labor. Kind of the same way I imagaine the 2 of you will be doing in 20-30 years.
Hello All,
Thought I’d post early as I’m done listing. 44 new listings for me, I’m finally over 300 listings now that everything is good til cancelled. The next 2 weeks will be lighter for me listing wise, we have company coming to stay with us so I’ll be busy.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week!
I totally get it Amatino, you are not alone. I also had to make the decision to put down the love of my life; my cat Sweetie, 2 days after my best friend of 30 years died of breast cancer. Oddly my cat also had breast cancer – I didn’t even know cats could get breast cancer…
I still miss them but now it’s positive memories and some sadness rather than just unmitigated grief. That is what I wish for you, that good memories fill your thoughts more than the grief does. And I hope baby cat is just out catting around, my fingers are crossed for her safe return.
Oh Amatino,
My heart is breaking for you. I hope that in time the wonderful memories you have of your beloved pet will be at the forefront of your mind instead of just the grief from your loss.
Losing a pet is so hard, but never experiencing that depth of unconditional love would be worse.
I’m so very sorry for your loss but happy to know that you had such an incredible and deep bond with your dog. You were lucky to find each other.
I’m sending you healing thoughts.Hello Everyone!
28 new listings for me and a change in my focus from “how much did I sell” to “how much did I list”. Better to focus on something I have some control over, rather than something I have zero control over. Not sure if this will cause me to list more, but I am sure it will cause me less disappointment when sales are soft.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
