Every year my sales fall off of a cliff starting after the 4th of July weekend and stay there until mid-late August. And, every year, I think to myself, “This seems much worse than before.”
… and this year is no different. My sales have dropped from $275 a day average from Jan 1 to Jul 5 to around $100 a day for the last 9 days. Logically, I know that people (if not going on vacation) are spending more time outside with their families and less time in front of their computers buying stuff, but somehow it still feels like someone poured a bucket of cold water on me.
I am curious if everyone else is experiencing a worse than average summer dip in sales.

You aren’t alone in experiencing a huge drop in sales in July. July is typically one of my 2 top sales months, but this July has been dismally slow. I never used to understand what sellers meant by “the summer slow down” but now I totally get it!
To be fair I’m listing way less (for Covid reasons) so for me not listing much is probably part of the problem.

So this year your drop in average daily sales is 175/275 = 64%. What was the drop last year? Is it really worse, or does it just feel that way?
I’ve seen a big dropoff in the last week or two as well, but I haven’t quantified it, and have no reason to believe it’s worse than previous years.

Strangely I keep expecting a drop and it has not occurred. I have notice a drop in volume but a rise in my average selling prices. I am selling quite a few more higher ticket items (higher for me $50.00 to $100.00 range).
I have been listing and sourcing like crazy and each week a few really good finds have pulled me through. Don’t know if it will last or not.

@Sonia – actually my daily averages are $100 vs $275. So that’s 36%. In the past it’s usually been around 60% and never lower than 50%.

Your sales are 36% of what they were, which is a drop of 64% – that’s what I meant.
Maybe the worse than last year effect is due to sales having been higher than usual the last few months – they have been for me, anyway.

I’ve seen a big drop in July (40 percent or so). I had heard about it on this forum before so I spared myself the freak out 🙂

Last week was OK but yesterday only 5 sales and today 3, I average 12 a day. 1 day is an aberration, 2 days slow makes me perk up and start watching. I’m seeing a lower average selling price too.

I was doing great until Wednesday night, then it’s like someone pulled a switch and shut me down. 1 sale on Thursday and 3 small sales Friday. I got tons of ridiculous low ball offers (10.00 on things I was listing for 100.00 – really people?)
Summer is here I guess. All I can do is keep listing 🙂

I’m experiencing the same slowdown. Trying to take this time to list more and get my inventory ready for when it picks up again. When do you all find that sales start returning?

I had about a 5 day stretch of slow sales last week but things are now way up again. Ebb and flow.

For the past 2 days I’ve only had 3-5 orders per day on my main Ebay store.  I haven’t listed anything new in my main Ebay store at all for the past 7 days or bothered to run a sale, so I’m to blame for the slowdown in sales.
Last week, however, was sort of nuts for sales in my main ebay store. Â I had 18 orders in 1 day alone last week, plus sales on the higher end of average each other day.

Last week was the worst week I’ve had all year at 44 orders. The brighter news is I’ve already had that many orders so far this week.
Personally, I think looking at daily totals is not so meaningful, looking at weeks is less apt to be skewed by normal deviations.

Interestingly for me June was much worse than July has been. I’ve already surpassed June sales and then some. I attribute this to the amount of listing I started doing at the end of June (I’ve put up over 120 listings in the past 3 weeks). Hoping to power through the summer and list list list and hope this wave of sales continues!
