This is the 3rd Quarter thread. Post your Challenge numbers here for the week starting Monday June 29, and ending Sunday July 5, 2020. Numbers must be posted on Monday July 6, and then each week going forward. You do not need permission to join, just post your numbers and I’ll add you in.
For information and rules on the Challenge, go here.

Sorry for not posting the Christmas in July challenge yesterday. I’ve had a persistent cough which was getting worse so spent the afternoon in urgent care. Good news: they did a covid check and I’m negative. Bad news: I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. We caught it early so I should be fine in a couple of days, with lots of meds and rest. I turned off my 4 shops, but will do some listing here and there.
Christmas in July challenge is pretty simple. List as many Christmas items as possible. They can be any type of merchandise, as long as they have a Christmas theme. Fabric, ugly Christmas sweaters, decor, ornaments, cds, whatever you have that relates to Christmas. The person who lists the most for the month gets three points, the person who lists the 2nd most for the month gets 2 points and everyone else who lists any Christmas at all gets a participation point. Get as much listed as you can….you’ll be happy you did. Christmas sells all year long!

So sorry you’re unwell, VT. After six months off, I totally empathise. Sending you best wishes for healing fast and not feeling awful until you do.
Thanks for posting the July Challenge. It will be a good one for me to start on now that I”m getting back to work.
-
07/03/2020 at 12:38 pm #79047
Glad to hear that you are on the mend, Amatino and getting back to work. You certainly have had a rough go of it. You always maintain your sense of humor though and that says a lot. 🙂

I listed 10 items this past week. I’m particularly happy about listing two large items that I didn’t manage to list earlier this year with the large item challenge.
I hope that both Amatino and Vintage Lacy are on the mend! Sending healing vibes across the country ….
I don’t have any Christmas items to list at the moment. I might be bidding in an online auction this week that would have Chanukah items. If I manage to buy them, will they count?
-
07/06/2020 at 11:08 am #79131
I vote for the Chanukah items to count, and Kwanzaa too!
I only listed a measly 3 items. But now that my relative has arrived and is set up in our guest room I’m hoping to get more eBay business accomplished this week. It’s going to be super hot here for the next week so I imagine I’ll be in the house instead of pursuing my usual outside biking, hiking and kayaking activities. Fingers crossed on that!
VL and Amatino, you’ve had some health scares for sure! Wishing you both a fast and complete recovery.
-
07/06/2020 at 11:14 am #79132
VL and Amatino, I echo the wishes for continued healing this week.
I listed 24 items, with 18 unique. My 14 yo daughter would like to run the house, so she lost her screens for a week. I’ve spend some nice time with her but it crimped my listing style. I also feel uneasy I guess subconsciously about things and have not been sleeping that great. I had a couple of lazy days last week. But hoping to tackle more boxes. I did a box of ceramics last week. Thinking of switching over to small art this week or back to fabric.
-
07/06/2020 at 3:42 pm #79155
19 for me. One was Christmas.
-
07/06/2020 at 3:56 pm #79157
46 listings – A productive week especially considering this is a hobby. I finally broke the 1,000 active listings barrier on eBay but it only lasted a few hours before 3 items sold and I was back below 1,000 again.
-
07/06/2020 at 5:04 pm #79163
Thanks y’all for the good wishes. It’s been two steps forward and one step back with the pneumonia and my doc told me today to expect to have it take a month to feel 100% again.
I vote yes on listing Chanukah items as part of the Christmas challenge. Way to go Julie B! I can only dream of breaking the 1,000 active listing barrier. If things just wouldn’t keep selling when we list them! 🙂
I hear ya on the not sleeping well ChristineR. We are living in such turbulent times right now. I’m right there with you. It’s okay to have lazy days though…we need mental health days as part of taking care of ourselves.
8 listings for the week and none were Christmas. YET. Boy howdy do I have a lot of Christmas to list so stay tuned.
-
07/07/2020 at 11:43 am #79202
Whoop y’all! Hope it was a rockin’ 4th for you! I neither listed, nor turned my store back on as I am still working on my quarterly taxes. It’s one thing doing the annual, it’s a whole ‘nuther animal working out quarterlies. Don’t like it.
“Dear IRS. I received your request for a tax form. I’d like to request you unsubscribe me from this service. I don’t know who signed me up, but I don’t want to be part of your group!” 😉Well done, Julie B and… you win the week! \o/ \o/ \o/ \o/
Spreadsheet updated. Christmas in July Challenge on the go.
Does anyone want to take the August Challenge?
-
07/07/2020 at 1:19 pm #79204
Woo hoo! It’s my first listing win! I’d like to thank the bargain bin place from where I purchased an obscene amount of swimsuits that I then had to list as fast as possible while they are still in season. And the Pandemic, without which I would not have stayed home as often with nothing to do but spend time listing.

A little late but 41 for me! Busy week.
-
07/07/2020 at 3:06 pm #79213
Sorry about the late posting. I had 11 new listings last week.

Spreadsheet updated.

07/13/2020 at 10:35 am #79530
I listed 22 unique items this week. I really need to push myself a little harder since my day job is super slow. I do have some family obligations and distractions, but this number really should be way higher. I feel like I’m going to look back later and go “the lockdowns was such a good opportunity to move those death piles”, and “why didn’t you get more done?” I did get back to exercising everyday this week and I’m trying to watch what I’m eating.
-
07/13/2020 at 11:27 am #79532
10 new listings for me. I’m surprised I met my humble goal. I’ve been really busy with our young adult relative living with us. I don’t know how those of you with kids manage to get much of anything done!
I’ve started working on Christmas items and I’ve listed 5 so far this month. The Christmas challenge works well for me (with my dwindling death piles) since I do have a box of Christmas items I’ve never listed because they’re low dollar. But at this point I’ll be glad to get them out of my basement whatever the selling price.
Wishing everyone good health and a great week!
-
07/13/2020 at 11:56 am #79536
36 for me this week! Working on some painting projects since I sold my dining room furniture a few weeks ago. Good excuse to shop and redecorate.
-
07/13/2020 at 11:59 am #79538
35 new listings for me this week. Slowly starting to get back to normal (however you define normal-ha!) and 16 of those listings were Christmas.
Charlie and I are moving into an antique mall space this week and that’s going to take quite a bit of my time and (still low) energy. It’s one of the top 3 vintage malls in the Portland area, with a long waiting list so I feel really lucky to have this opportunity. We’re not doing our usual outdoor vintage shows this Summer so I’m happy to have a place to land some of this vintage goodness I have on hand.
Hope everyone is doing well.

07/13/2020 at 12:05 pm #79539
Zero for me, last week of zeroes as I was working on taxes. They’re all done now, woot!
And I sewed some placemats. Anyone who has ever picked up some hand made, quilted placemats and said “They want how much?” please know they’re probably underpriced. The fabric alone (pieced top, batting, backing, binding) came to about $40. Then there’s the cost of a new cutter blade, a full spool of thread (I used a new spool and I’m almost out), the electricity and cost of the machine and servicing, and about 14 hours of labor for a set of four mats. It might be more hours, I’m guesstimating, as I’ve only finished three. I suddenly understand those prices!

07/13/2020 at 12:41 pm #79540
I only had 7 this week. But 1 was a Christmas shirt.
-
07/13/2020 at 1:28 pm #79544
I listed 11 items last week.
I picked up an auction win with some Chanukah stuff that I will focus on getting listed this week or next.
I have a question. Some things are definitely Chanukah, and some are Jewish stuff that I’d have to consider whether they are Chanukah or not.
So, if someone lists a decorative cross, rosary beads, or a Christian-themed print (no Santa, nothing specifically Christmas, etc), would it be considered Christmas? Would it count towards the challenge? If not, I’ll take that into consideration when I count my stuff for the challenge.
Thanks!
-
07/13/2020 at 1:33 pm #79546
I did 12 this week – nothing last week sorry about not updating. I’m still working on getting stuff figured out and home in the right order.
-
07/13/2020 at 1:46 pm #79547
Sharyn,
Good question. For purposes of the challenge I would not consider general Christian or Jewish items as part of the challenge. Or items that COULD be used for Christmas, but don’t have a Christmas theme. For example, I’ve been listing Christmas fabric, but it all has Santas and snowflakes and snowmen and reindeer and so forth. I also have some red and green taffeta and gingham, but I won’t be counting those because while they can be used for making Christmas items, they can be used for non-Christmas purposes too. I wouldn’t count a piece of fabric that has deer on it, unless they are reindeer, and so forth. Anything nativity related counts. Hope that makes sense.
-
07/13/2020 at 2:41 pm #79550
That makes sense and is what I thought. I’ve got a fused glass bowl with a menorah – that’s Chanukah. I’ve got three Jewish related prints in a frame, and, unless I find something specifically mentioned, it is not Chanukah.
Thanks!

9 for me, of which 1 was Christmas. I hope everyone has a good week!
-
07/13/2020 at 3:29 pm #79552
Just 2 for me this week and none of them were Christmas items.
-
07/14/2020 at 11:41 am #79574
Spreadsheet updated. Libby wins again – by one! 😀
Congrats to everyone getting in their Christmas Challenge items. Great stuff!
Have a great week, y’all!
-
07/19/2020 at 7:27 pm #79725
48 this week for me. Mostly because I had very few interruptions and spent my days solo and working. I have to take advantage of the time when this happens. I also finally solidified my cross-posting plans and decided to just do Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace for higher dollar value items. So everything gets listed on ebay, and I am concentrating my efforts there these days.
-
07/20/2020 at 9:10 am #79743
11 new listings for me. I’m happy to have met my modest weekly goal.
I’ve listed 9 Christmas items so far in July. One Christmas item sold immediately after I listed it, and I’ve seen other Christmas items I’ve had listed forever also sell this month. There really must be something to “Christmas in July”.
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
07/20/2020 at 11:03 am #79755
No Christmas, 13 items. Have a good week.
-
07/20/2020 at 11:32 am #79761
25 this week – no Christmas. I’m planning on putting up some Christmas stuff here shortly. I hope everyone is doing well and have a great week!
-
07/20/2020 at 11:36 am #79762
I listed 24 items – about twice my usual number. I guess the benefit from having very few sales. Four of the items toward the July challenge.
-
07/20/2020 at 11:57 am #79768
22 listings for me.
-
07/20/2020 at 12:26 pm #79775
50 listings for me last week and 1 was Christmas, so my Christmas listings are now 17 for the month so far. I hope to do more this week.
Amatino, those placemats are gorgeous. I can see why they took so long, but they’ll be cherished for years to come.
-
07/20/2020 at 2:06 pm #79784
For those who are into numerology, eight is the number of “grace”. Which is relevant because I’ve this is my 8th week of zeroes. However, my grace period has ended! My BFF gave me a polite kick in the keister to turn my store on this weekend and I have already got new orders, so I’m back in the saddle! Everyone needs a friend like her. She’s caring and considerate, but she also sells on eBay and so she don’t take no excuses! LOL.
Wishing you all a wonderful week with some great listing. Really pleased to see how well the Christmas challenge is going.
Anyone want to do the August challenge?
-
07/21/2020 at 3:53 pm #79813
Posting late, yet again… I had 8 listings last week.
-
07/21/2020 at 5:17 pm #79822
Spreadsheet updated, and the winner this week is Vintage Lacy! By two! It’s often such a neck and neck race this year!
Two weeks left to get your Christmas in July items listed. Ho ho hone them listing skillz and get ’em up, folks!
-
07/26/2020 at 12:14 am #79954
I’m reporting in early this week for a change. I had a total of 9 new listings this week and no Christmas items. I will be off the grid until next Saturday. So, next weeks numbers will be even lower than usual for me.
-
07/26/2020 at 7:33 pm #79992
Utahbill, what does “off the grid” mean? Do you go hunting or something?
I’m baaaack! Created 14 listings, 3 of which were Christmas! Yay!
Okay, folks, I’m doing it again! Yup, it’s time for a quickie challenge.
MONDAY MADNESS LISTING CHALLENGE!
List like crazy on Monday. Get as many as you can squeezed into just that one day. Don’t care if you only list for an hour or for all 24, just list like a firecracker! Don’t care what you list either. Any category, any type, anywhere. List your Christmas items for a last ditch at the Christmas in July challenge. List late 4th of July items. List winter, list summer, list books or decor or trinkets or cars. Whatever you like. Listings count, not number listed, and only listings posted live on Monday. Drafts don’t count. Post your numbers on Tuesday.
Ready? Wait for one minute past midnight, then… GO!

07/30/2020 at 9:28 pm #80204
Amatino- I went on a horse packing trip in the Ruby Mountain Wilderness of Nevada. I just got home today and will start listing tomorrow.
-
-
07/26/2020 at 8:58 pm #79995
I managed 20 listings this week including two Chanukah bringing my total to five. I bought a few Christmas items in online auctions, so I’ll have a few more to get through this week.
@Amatino – Sounds like a fun challenge, but I have like three appointments I have to go to tomorrow! Nothing for the rest of the week, just Monday. I’ll try, but I’ll be happy just to get some photography done. -
07/27/2020 at 9:20 am #80007
14 for the week no Christmas items. I am hoping to get some up in the next few days.
-
07/27/2020 at 12:08 pm #80018
10 new listings for me. I’m at 15 total Christmas items for the month so far. And I’m in for the Monday listing mini challenge today.
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
07/27/2020 at 1:05 pm #80019
43 new listings for me and 11 of those were Christmas. That brings my total for the Christmas challenge to 28 so far, with the hope to do a few more this week.
Welcome back Amatino! If nobody else has an idea for the August challenge I’d like to float one out there…..how about a textile challenge? Clothes, linens and the like. Finished items, not fabric. I personally have a bunch in my death pile that I need a nudge with….what do you think? Or if there’s another challenge out there we could use this one on a future month?
-
07/27/2020 at 4:05 pm #80029
I have textiles in my piles too. Hope you are all doing well.
I listed 18 items. My day job has gotten busy again and my younger kid is out of camp and school for three weeks. I have been trying to cram in at least a few listings every other day in spurts.
Hope to list more this week, but I also need to do some organizing of unlisted and listed items plus used boxes. That sounds really fun actually since I’ve been sitting at the computer so much lately.
-
07/27/2020 at 6:08 pm #80031
63 this week for me. 5 Holiday items this month for the challenge. Hope everyone is well! I listed a ton of costume jewelry this week (my favorite thing to list), it is quick and easy (as opposed to the furniture I do).
-
07/27/2020 at 6:47 pm #80033
I had something for August in case nobody else came up with one, just to make sure we still had a challenge. Quite happy for you to take it, VL. Put together the parameters for the new challenge, and you can post it on Saturday, August 1st.
My number for Monday Madness is 4. All 4 are multi-quantity, so I’ve listed a dozen items, but only in 4 listings, so that’s my number. I had hoped for more, but I fought with my camera lighting and had a couple of awkward, large items to pack up for orders, so I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Looking forward to all your numbers!
-
07/27/2020 at 9:19 pm #80035
My number for Monday Madness is 10, and that means I’m done for the week if I want to be. Hurrah!
-
07/28/2020 at 2:22 am #80039
8 for Monday Madness. Thanks for the nudge Amatino… I don’t usually list on Mondays but I like getting a jump start on the week!
-
07/28/2020 at 8:31 am #80041
34 items listed for the week. I don’t have any for Monday.
-
07/28/2020 at 9:40 am #80043
So I didn’t get as much done as I wanted for Monday Madness – but I did get 8 Christmas items listed!
-
07/28/2020 at 10:09 am #80044
Well done everyone! Great job to get some listings done on a Monday! VT wins the Monday Madness Challenge with 10 listings (and how great you did your whole week’s goal!) VL and LBH come in second with 8 each. I trailed in with 4. Points added to the spreadsheet.
Watch out, folks. You’ve had all year without a surprise challenge. You never know when one is going to pop up! 😀
Spreadsheet updated and Libby wins the week. Good going, Libby!
This is your last week for the Christmas in July Challenge. Keep on listing those Christmas items! Please post your final total for the Christmas items on Monday when you post your week’s figures. (Final total means the whole number of Christmas items you listed, not how many you listed this week.) VL will decide winners on Tuesday.
-
07/28/2020 at 10:41 am #80045
WWaaiittttt …..
Are you already awarding the Monday Madness points? I thought I had all day to post?!!?
After I told you on Sunday that I had too busy on Monday to list anything, I went and did a bunch of photography the one hour before I needed to get ready for bed. Then, in between appointments and meals on Monday, I managed to list 9 items! And four of those were Christmas to add to the July challenge!
-
07/29/2020 at 11:15 am #80124
LOL. Sorry Sharyn! I’m so used to doing the Spreadsheet update on a Tuesday, I just did everything on Tuesday!
Spreadsheet amended to show that Sharyn actually came in second with 9 listings, and VL and LBH are tied for 3rd. Very well done, Sharyn, on getting that many done last minute! You did great!
One of my Christmas ornaments that I listed on Friday sold yesterday. Woot!
-
07/29/2020 at 4:19 pm #80139
@Amatino – Did I just push you off the challenge? Hum, I didn’t think that one through.
I have to say, your challenges really do inspire me. I got those listed because of the Monday Madness challenge, and I’ve purposely bid on holiday items so that I could participate in the Christmas in July challenge.
Can you give yourself back that point? Or, take one of mine!
-
07/29/2020 at 7:49 pm #80149
No, no, no! You guys deserve those points! Look at your numbers! If I’m bumped off the chart, it’s my own fault for not listing more.
I believe in reward for achievement. I’ve never been one of those “everyone in the class gets a medal for participating” folks. If I want to get points, I have to outperform you high rollers! THAT’s motivation!
And holy spitfire’s Batman, you did it after hours! You win!
-
07/29/2020 at 8:03 pm #80155
You’re the best 🥰

-
08/01/2020 at 9:34 pm #80262
It is AUGUST……and time for another challenge! This month the challenge is all about textiles. Anything finished and made of fabric. Clothing, bed linens, kitchen linens, home decor items, if it’s primarily made of fabric it counts. Anything yarn related counts too…..knitted finished items. And just for the heck of it we’ll count crocheted items as well.
What doesn’t count? Fabric pieces, yarn to be knitted, crochet thread. Finished items only, please.
Points awarded for the most items listed for the month…first, second and third place.
Let the listing begin!
-
08/02/2020 at 5:07 pm #80276
Thanks VL! I had completely forgotten, but you remembered. You’re magic!
Posting my numbers early, as I’m done for the week. Listed 20 items for the week challenge. Total listing number for the Christmas challenge was 3.
-
08/02/2020 at 6:35 pm #80284
I listed 10 new items last week, and all of them during the mini Monday Madness challenge! I met my weekly goal so I’m happy. My total Christmas listings for the Christmas in July listing challenge was 15.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead!
-
08/02/2020 at 9:12 pm #80289
I listed 22 items last week. That Monday madness challenge really helped out!
My total for the July challenge is 10.
-
08/03/2020 at 9:06 am #80301
33 for me this week, none on Monday.
-
08/03/2020 at 9:56 am #80306
Only 11 for me. Was working day job Monday so 0 for that. I have lots of textiles I can pull out of the piles, plus some summer clearance I have just purchased. Since Friday I listed 7.
-
08/03/2020 at 1:10 pm #80313
I listed a total of 23 last week – 8 Christmas Total for the month
-
08/03/2020 at 1:13 pm #80314
I was out of town in the mountains all last week. So, not surprisingly I have to post a goose egg (0) for last week.
Now it’s time to get back in the game and list, list, list
-
08/03/2020 at 1:54 pm #80316
58 for me. I did a bunch of Christmas on the last day of the month (terminal procrastinator) and ended with a total of 11 for the month of July. None on Monday.
I think I’m 2 weeks behind in posting. I had 0 for the week July 20-26 (did a lot of drafts that I finished last week) and 10 for the week July 13-19. Sorry for the extra work, Amatino.
Looking forward to the August challenge! Question, do backpacks/messenger bags count? (Are these considered “fabric”)?
-
08/03/2020 at 2:42 pm #80319
107 for me this week. That is a lot of for me. I am excited for the fabric challenge, now I just hope I get someone to consign some linens! Have a great week, I am going to take some time and chill I hope!
-
08/03/2020 at 4:40 pm #80321
19 listings for me this week which is less than I had hoped for but I have a good excuse. Do you believe in serendipity? I sure do. Charlie and I were out for a drive a week ago Sunday morning and we saw an estate sale sign…last day everything half off. It turned out to be a hoarder house, with tons of cool vintage goodness, from vintage toys, old kitchen stuff, lots of ephemera, vintage Christmas, ancient little girl petticoat collection, and on and on. Things were a bit pricey, even at half off, which is probably why there was so much left. Both of us still managed to find some bargains and Charlie ended up with one stuffed bag and I had two. Did I mention there was a shed chock full and a barn/garage?
Out of curiosity, I asked the estate sale promoter what was going to happen to everything that was left? She said….why, do you want it? I didn’t even pause to say YES. She said, you understand this means you take EVERYTHING. Gulp. Of course I understand, I said.
It took us two FULL days, in 97 degree weather to empty it all out. Two full 20 foot U-haul truck loads and several full pick-up and car loads. But we got it. My best friend came to help and Charlie’s 16-yr-old son, and I paid his son enough so he was able to buy himself a new skateboard with the proceeds. Win win win.
Now we have to sort it out and decide what to keep to sell and what to donate or recycle. There’s MUCH more work ahead. But man it was fun (in a sweaty back-aching way) and the Grange will get the lion’s share of the proceeds and we’ll do well with it too. I’m so glad I said yes.
My final total for the Christmas in July challenge was 28 items.
Junque Redux, as far as backpacks and the like, if they are made out of canvas or polyester or something like that they would count. I don’t consider leather, fake or real, a textile, if that make sense.
-
08/04/2020 at 8:33 am #80344
Yes, it makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
-
-
08/03/2020 at 4:55 pm #80322
OMG Vintage Lacy – that scenario is a dream come true! Okay minus the 97 degree heat and the amount of back breaking packing and moving work involved. And the ability to store it all. And the work involved in sorting it, cleaning it, deciding what to donate and hauling off the donations.
Oops, I didn’t mean to sound like that. It really is my fantasy that such a thing could happen to me. Except my hubs would kill me if I did that. So it’s going to have to stay my fantasy I guess.
Congratulations on a wonderful score!!! Wishing you lots of fun researching it all and lots of high $ sales!
-
08/04/2020 at 2:08 am #80339
Christmas in July challenge results:
I win 3 points with 28 listings
Vintage Treasures wins 2 points in 2nd place with 15 listings
Sharyn, LBH, Junque and Amatino each get one point for participating…good going all of you. Chime in if I’ve forgotten anyone.
I have a feeling the competition in the August Textile challenge is going to be fierce!

VL, what a haul! How fantastic!
JunqueRedux, no problem. It’s just a couple key strokes to catch you up.
Spreadsheet updated. Libby gallops to a win!
VL, color me surprised. We actually had an 80% participation rate in this challenge, the best all year! Here are the numbers:
Vintage Lacy 28
Vintage Treasures 15
Junque Redux 11
Sharyn 10
LittleBlueHouse 8
Libby 5
Amatino 3
Julie B 1My thinking is that we have a first, second, and third. I’m not a fan of participation points. It’s motivating to me to get in the game if you have a winner. But I may be in the minority (or alone) on this issue, so please chime in folks, let me know what you think. I’m happy to work with the group decision. Do you like getting a point for getting on the board? There’s no wrong answer here,it’s what works for you, helps you to list more. That’s what makes this group successful, doing what works for the group!

Last surprise challenge I gave you no advance warning. This round, I’ve giving you a little extra time to dig out your items.
TUESDAY BLUES DAY CHALLENGE!
According to Google, “blues” can refer to music, depression/feeling sad, the Union army during the Civil War, a butterfly, metallurgy, or of course, color. Some of those were quite a surprise!
For Tuesday, list as many items as you can find that fit into any or all of those categories. I’m sure you can find something in just one, if not multiple categories. For convenience, I will accept any militaria rather than “the Union army during the Civil War”.
No excuses. You can find one item to list in one category. Come on, you can do it!
-
08/09/2020 at 3:42 pm #80487
P.S. You have all day Tuesday to list items for the Tuesday Blues Day Challenge, all day Wednesday to post your numbers, and Thursday the winners will be announced.
-
08/09/2020 at 4:54 pm #80489
I’m not usually a participation ribbon type of person, but I think in that situation it would be okay. If most of the people are participating I would say no, but if you aren’t getting a lot of participation, or consistent participation, I would say 1 point for those that are trying is okay. I would also suggest to maybe up 1st, 2nd, and 3rd points by even a point or two if you do decide to give out a participation point.
That is my feeling, but I am okay either way.
-
08/09/2020 at 5:30 pm #80490
I agree with littleBlueHouse. Up the points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place so 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are something to really work towards. But to get more people in on the challenges it doesn’t hurt to reward everyone else who participates with a point.
-
08/09/2020 at 11:27 pm #80496
I had 6 new listings for the past week. Have a great week everyone.
-
08/10/2020 at 3:00 am #80499
I agree with LBH and VT. I like the idea of more people getting points for effort. Perhaps the reason that we had such great participation in the July Holiday challenge is because one could get a participation point even if they didn’t win 1-3 place….? It’s also a way for people to get points if life doesn’t allow them to be big listers.
Now I’m really going to throw a spanner in the works…..what about giving first, second and third place points for the weekly listing challenge? Instead of just one person getting a point and winning the week? Just a thought. 🙂
That being said, life threw me a curveball last week….. and so…..
5 listings…and one was a textile listing for the August challenge.
-
08/10/2020 at 8:01 am #80500
26 for me last week. All were clothing or linens. I have a lot of clothing death piles, so the August challenge is my kick in the pants (no pun intended) to get some of it listed.
-
08/10/2020 at 9:09 am #80501
12 new listings for me last week. I don’t think any of them met the August challenge criteria. I’ll have to start keeping track better for the rest of August.
I like Vintage Lacy’s idea for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the weekly listing challenge BUT I’m not the person who would have to do the extra tallying work. I would leave that decision completely up to Amatino. Seems like she’s already putting enough work into doing this for us IMHO 🙂
VL, this year hasn’t been easy for you, I’m sorry to hear there’s been another curveball in your life.
Wishing you and everyone else a great week this week!
-
08/10/2020 at 9:09 am #80502
Oops, sorry, somehow I managed to post the same thing 2x. Please ignore this post!
-
08/10/2020 at 9:28 am #80507
0 listings for me this week. Too much other stuff going on I guess.
-
08/10/2020 at 10:38 am #80511
5 – I’m a mess but I keep chugging forward!
-
08/10/2020 at 11:31 am #80513
I was on vacation all last week, so a big 0 for me!!
I visited some family friends this past weekend, so now I have all sorts of consignment stuff for the challenges. I also happened to source once during the vaca and have one item that meets the August challenge.
I do appreciate the participation points. Because I have a part time job this year, I’m not able to list the quantity that I used to, so the challenges and the extra points do push me to do more (as silly as it is).
-
08/10/2020 at 3:52 pm #80521
29 listed this week with 0 textiles. Geez, I really lost my mojo this week (although we did flood and have a leak in my inventory room that derailed me!). Tuesday Blues sounds fun if I can remember.
Hope everyone has a great week!- Libby
-
08/10/2020 at 11:02 pm #80532
10 for me. Incredibly busy off eBay, but at least I made my weekly goal.
-
08/11/2020 at 11:53 am #80559
Okay, I hear you. Participation points included.
In answer to VL’s suggestion that I add first, second and third points to the weekly listings, I’m going to say no, not because I’m too lazy to do it (I did do it!), but because it will defeat the intention. The idea is to motivate everyone to participate more in the weekly listings. After going to all the work of actually adding in the three scores, I discovered that the same three people tend to win every week. Libby scores EVERY week in one of the three spots, and VT and VL pretty much hog the rest. It would be the opposite of motivating for you three Roadrunners to leave us Wil.E. Coyote’s in your, admittedly impressive, dust!
I’ve reversed all the work I did, changing back to just one winner in the weekly listing numbers. However, by changing the monthly challenges to include first, second, third, and participation points, we might then level the playing field, just a little. I think those challenges are more motivating, because they’re more across the board, although still weighted in favor of the original TELC team, the folks who have been with me since the beginning of this Challenge. If you look at the Monthly and Spot Challenges section, you can see the numbers are all over the place, making it much more likely that more will participate.
It’s going to take a while to get all those challenges updated to include all the points. I will have to go back to January and find everyone’s final posts and then update each month. I will allocate 4 points for first, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd, and one point for participation. Then I will add a total column for us to see a winner. And I will add a second prize, one for the weekly challenges and one for the monthly and spot challenges. In other words, we will have a Trash Elf Listing winner and a Trash Elf Challenge winner.
P.S. The prizes have been upgraded! You really want to win one this year!
Hope this works for everyone.
-
08/11/2020 at 12:29 pm #80562
Spreadsheet updated, Libby squeaks in for the win, edging Junque Redux out by only 3 points.
Updated Jan, Feb, and March for the Challenge to the new points system. Will continue to work on it through the week. It means combing through each thread looking for who participated during the month, as well as picking out the announced winners at the end of the month, which is why it’s slow.
-
08/12/2020 at 9:29 am #80612
I listed 7 items for the “Tuesday Blues Day Challenge”. I was very busy, so they were all late evening accomplishments. I’m quite busy today as well, so I wanted to get this in as soon as possible. See ya!
-
08/12/2020 at 9:35 am #80613
4 Blues Challenge items listed for me. Thank you to Amatino for thinking up this cool idea for a pop-up challenge. It was very inspiring and got me to list things I wouldn’t have otherwise!
-
08/12/2020 at 10:36 am #80618
You’d think I’d pick a challenge that is easy for me to do. I mean, I’m setting the challenge, I get to choose something that I can actually achieve, right? You’d think….
Instead, I ended up rummaging in my Death Piles desperately trying to find something blue. Duh! Of course, the stuff in my DPs is all the stuff that needs cleaning or fixing or research or… yeah, you get the picture. So while I took photos of six blue items, I only ended up listing two of them.
On the plus side, one was blue jeans, so I got into the August Challenge as well. A two-fer! Yay!
-
08/12/2020 at 11:30 am #80619
I had the very best intentions and five items lined up for the BLUE challenge…but somehow the day got away from me, so it’s a zero for me. Such is life.
Amatino, I really want to let you know how much I appreciate all the time and effort you put into our Trash Elf Challenge. You have a busy life and this just adds another layer to your work day so please know that being part of this group has made such a difference to how I approach listing. It’s always fun to source items and fun when they sell, but the listing is always the drudgery part for me. My mindset has changed completely over the past couple of years because of the challenge and the support of the group. It’s inspiring and motivating and I am listing WAY more than I would be otherwise. My numbers keep going up each year…which is exciting! And most importantly, you make it fun. What a gift. Thank you Amatino. You are the best. 🙂
-
08/14/2020 at 2:16 pm #80667
Tuesday Blues Day Points:
Sharyn wins with 7 items – 4 points
VT is second with 4 items – 3 points
I slide in third with 2 items – 2 points
VL gets one point for participating, even if she didn’t list.
And thanks, VL. I’m thrilled to read that I’ve helped you grow and list more. That’s what this thread is all about. You guys keep me busy, but in the best possible way EVER! I truly appreciate what a fantastic group this has turned out to be.
-
08/14/2020 at 2:56 pm #80668
Wow, I actually won one! My last ditch effort paid off!
I had recently come back from vacation, and I picked up a bunch of items for commission. If I didn’t have that, I don’t think I could have come up with seven blue items to list.
-
08/14/2020 at 5:33 pm #80669
I’m just wondering if anyone listed items for the Blues challenge that fit any criteria other than the color blue. As per Amatino: “According to Google, “blues” can refer to music, depression/feeling sad, the Union army during the Civil War, a butterfly, metallurgy, or of course, color.”
I didn’t have a lot of blue colored things so I listed a Norman Vincent Peale self-help booklet that I thought fit the depression/feeling sad criteria. I also had some butterfly stationery but I didn’t get that listed in time to count towards my Tuesday total.
-
08/14/2020 at 5:45 pm #80670
I did have one that was not blue in color. I had a shot glass from the Philmont Training Center in NM. The thing is, this is a Boy Scout facility. Why would they have alcohol related items at a place that is for kids? Well, I figured if you were an adult going through BSA leadership training, you might need a shot or two. So, it goes in the “depression/feeling sad” category.
I could have just listed another blue item because I had more photographed and I couldn’t get to them all, but I liked the funny tie-in.
-
08/14/2020 at 7:31 pm #80672
Mine were both color-related. Blue jeans and some Corning Ware with a blue pattern.
-
08/14/2020 at 7:44 pm #80673
Thanks for answering, I was interested to hear what items you all found that fit the description of “blues”.
Hmm, come to think of it I listed a Christmas Carol songbook because the cover was blue. But that would have fit under music also!
-
08/14/2020 at 7:53 pm #80674
My answer is super boring. I just had 5 pieces of blue fabric lined up to list. Actually I had a stack of 15 blue pieces, but thought I could get 5 done that day. I list fabric by color in my Etsy shop so it’s easier and more aesthetically pleasing to peruse.
I’m feeling guilty for getting a participation point when I didn’t actually get any listed. Is the point because I posted? 🙂
-
08/14/2020 at 10:23 pm #80679
VL, kinda. You actually got stuff together to list, and then took the time to post about it. After last week’s discussion about points for participating, I thought that a participation point was following the intent, rather than the letter of the law. You wouldn’t get any points in the Weekly Challenge, or even the monthly challenge, but for a spot challenge… yeah. I think we’re all chuffed you tried.
-
08/17/2020 at 12:01 pm #80740
47 listings for me this week. It felt good to get back to reaching my weekly goal, although I have a bit of catching up to do. I didn’t get any textile listings done this week, but the month is only half over.
-
08/17/2020 at 12:04 pm #80741
12 new listings for me.
Have a great week everyone!
-
08/17/2020 at 12:59 pm #80749
6 new listings for me.
Have an incredible week!
-
08/17/2020 at 1:29 pm #80750
I had 17 new listings. The challenge on Monday definitely helped! Two of the items meet the August challenge. One is a teddy bear. Hey, he’s a finished product made of fabric!
On the last stop of our vacation, I picked up several boxes from my one commission. My goal this week will be to gather all the textile products from the boxes, add that to a few things I purchased recently, and get them listed. The boxes also include some fabric, but, since those won’t go towards the challenge, I’ll put then off for now.
-
08/17/2020 at 4:46 pm #80762
VL, you only have 33 items to list to catch up to your annual goal. Me? I’ve got to find 126 extra items to list in only a few months. I’d better get off my butt and get busy. *rushes off to the cabin*
Oh, wait, I have to do my numbers first! 😀
Having admitted I’m behind, I’m behind again! Only 8 listed this week, so I didn’t make my weekly goal. However, one was a shirt, so that’s two towards the August challenge so far. Hey, do bra straps count as textiles? I listed a Victoria’s Secret set of bra straps.
Yesterday I heard yowling under my bedroom window and found a feral kitten with a shattered foreleg. Poor baby. I rescued her and put her in a crate with a pile of straw and contacted our local rescue organization. They can’t take any cats at the moment as they’re both full and in the middle of a massive ringworm infection, but they did find me another rescue that will pick up 100% of the medical bills to pay for her to be repaired. I think she’s going to lose that leg. She is such a cutie though, I’m so grateful that she has a chance. Anyone want a tripod kitten?
-
08/18/2020 at 7:58 am #80777
6 for me last week. Glad to hear you were able to rescue that kitty and find someone to help her, Amatino.
-
08/18/2020 at 8:46 am #80784
0 listings again. Am so super busy and stressed at my regular FT job. I hope to one day see light at the end of this work tunnel.
-
08/18/2020 at 1:27 pm #80794
Spreadsheet updated and VL scores the win this week! Good going!
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
08/19/2020 at 4:19 pm #80832
Hi sorry for the late entry. I had zero last week and 1 this week. Super busy with my day job and kid stuff. Have a good week you guys.
-
08/24/2020 at 8:45 am #80959
10 new listings for me.
I went to the last day of a sale yesterday and got two huge bags of items for $15. I didn’t find any high $ items; it was a four day sale and the really good stuff sold earlier in the week. But I’m happy that I have more inventory to list.
My sales have been really slow for a couple of months but they seem to have picked up in the last few days. I hope these don’t become my famous last words 🙂
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
08/24/2020 at 12:24 pm #80968
Hi all,
Only 4 new listings, all textiles. Super busy outside Ebay. Hang in there Julie. I miss having a full just Ebay day.
-
08/24/2020 at 12:30 pm #80969
58 listings for me this week and 17 were textiles for the August challenge. Slowly trying to get back on track. One week left to list textiles….so will try to get more done this week. My grand total for the August challenge is 18 so far.
My big project over the weekend was to start to put new shelving in my storage and get more organized. Got about half of it done.
Hope everyone has a good week ahead.
-
08/24/2020 at 12:44 pm #80970
74 last week, good numbers but only because I had to cancel my beach trip. Oh well! Hope everyone has a great week.
-
08/24/2020 at 1:32 pm #80973
8 items for me last week. I am leaving on a 4 day backpacking trip tomorrow. So, I don’t expect this weeks numbers to be much improved, but I will have a great time.
Have a good week!
-
08/24/2020 at 8:25 pm #80982
Zero for me last week. Very busy week off eBay.
-
08/24/2020 at 9:49 pm #80983
I listed 9 items last week. It would have been more, but I had an unexpected trip due to a death in the family (not COVID related). Family comes first.
-
08/25/2020 at 11:08 am #80991
Spreadsheet updated, Libby gallops to a convincing win.
Last week of the August textiles challenge, everyone.
Who wants to put up the September challenge?
Listing time! Ready? Go!
-
08/25/2020 at 12:40 pm #80995
For the September challenge, I have a large amount of stuff from my one consigner. Most of the items fall under one of the categories below. If anyone has a similar pile and would like to come up with a challenge based on that, I’m all for it!
Silver plate ( 2 sets of flatware!, trays, coffee pot, and so on) plus some stainless
Jewelry (some sterling, some costume)
Breakable (blue glass, ceramic, china)
And, to a lesser extent, fabric
-
08/27/2020 at 8:57 am #81035
0 listings. I’ve been so busy with my FT job I forgot to post this week. It’s another big fat zero.
-
08/31/2020 at 8:18 am #81132
10 for me this week. I didn’t post last week as we were out of town, also had 10 for that week.
-
08/31/2020 at 10:01 am #81135
23 new listings for me this week. I’m at 20 for the August challenge, but I’m hoping to squeeze in a few more listings for the August challenge today.
Do we have a September challenge picked out yet? It’s September tomorrow!
Wishing everyone a great week!
-
08/31/2020 at 11:49 am #81143
I listed 15 items this week, 8 were textiles. Weird that it’s Fall and we are still in lockdown. This week will be super busy again with work and college apps but I think next week should be better for listing.
-
08/31/2020 at 12:16 pm #81149
I created a bunch of drafts, but they were complicated and I didn’t manage to finish the final step to turn them into listings, ergo, zero. They will go up this week.
Sold a sewing machine again. It took 4 hours to pack but, on the positive side, I got a message from the buyer with lots of !!!! who said it was the best packing job she has ever seen. I wondered how many sewing machines she buys…
There’s a major disability in my listing method though. It slows me down something awful!
She’s literally out for the count, her entire weight of her head resting on my arm. How can I disturb something this cute?
-
08/31/2020 at 12:45 pm #81152
What a gorgeous kitty! We have a calico too!
-
-
08/31/2020 at 12:21 pm #81150
I listed 17 this week. Pretty good for me, but it was because I didn’t have lots of sales.
My total for the textiles is 9. I don’t have any more, so that is my final number.
For the September challenge, I had mentioned the categories where I have the most number of items. If anyone wants to create a challenge around any of them, I’m game! I just don’t want to make the challenge myself since it is kind of self serving – these are the areas where I might do really well. So, I’ll let someone else chose.
Silver plate ( 2 sets of flatware!, trays, coffee pot, and so on) plus some stainless
Jewelry (some sterling, some costume)
Breakable (blue glass, ceramic, china)
I’ve already started preparing the breakables because they take up the most space, but I have more of the silver plate and jewelry.
-
08/31/2020 at 12:26 pm #81151
I listed 101 this week, sounds good but I got a consignment batch that was easy to process and well below the average list price I have been aiming for. It is so hard for me to turn down good items because of low value.
Love the kitty pics! They do like to slow the process down!
-
08/31/2020 at 1:16 pm #81154
0 – again! Arrrggghhhh I can’t wait for my work-life to calm the heck down so I can get back to what I’d rather be doing – listing!
Love everyone’s calicos. I have a black and white super fluff ball that thinks she has to sleep directly on top of my keyboard! I’ve tried putting down decoy keyboards and laptops but she is rarely fooled.
-
08/31/2020 at 1:32 pm #81155
Ummmm… .Sharyn? I think you need to refer to your manual. You put your kitty together wrong! 😀
She’s adorable! Just wanna cuddle it!
-
08/31/2020 at 2:14 pm #81157
It occurs to me that ebay is advertising their 25th anniversary, which is traditionally the silver wedding anniversary. So playing off Sharyn’s post, how about Silver in September? Actual silverplate, silver (or silvertone) jewelry and coins, silver colored items (which I think can be interpreted with significant latitude), books and music with “silver” in the title? If anyone has a better idea, though, I’m all for it.
-
08/31/2020 at 2:46 pm #81158
Aww, look at those beautiful calico kitty cats! Two of the favorite cats I’ve had in my life have been calico cats. And both of yours look so sweet, just like mine were.
The silver challenge (interpreted with significant latitude) sounds fine to me. Amatino: any thoughts on this?
I forgot to say that my comment last Monday on “my sales seem to have picked up, I hope those aren’t famous last words” was the kiss of death for me – LOL. On Monday, Wednesday and Sunday I had zero sales. 3 zero sales days in one week! I don’t think I’ve had that happen since I had 1/5th the number of items listed, which was many years ago… It’s pretty unusual for me to have 2 zero sales day in a month. I’m hoping it’s just temporary while people are busy trying to figure out if they are sending their kids back to school or not…
-
08/31/2020 at 3:10 pm #81160
I’m not the listing behemoth that some of you are, but, between my silver plate, stainless, jewelry (sterling & silver colored), and metal tools, I should be a force to be reckoned with!!! Of course, this assumes I find the time to list all this stuff.
Up to Amatino to approve, but you are all forewarned …
-
08/31/2020 at 10:16 pm #81172
50 listings for me and 5 were textiles for the August challenge. My total for the August challenge is 23 and that’s my final tally since I won’t be doing any more tonight.
Hey congrats Libby on hitting the 2020 goal last week….and in August no less! I bow down to you!
Love all the kitty pics. I too had a calico. Her name was Penelope and I named my brick and mortar shop for her, way back in 2004. She was sweet and quirky. Just a wonderful cat. My last cat Coco used to like to lie across my feet while I was listing. I finally got a little bed for her in my office/studio so she could hang out with Mommy and not be underfoot. I’ve been really lucky with the cats who’ve blessed my life.
-
09/01/2020 at 8:02 am #81179
My total for the August challenge is 32.
-
09/01/2020 at 11:12 am #81184
Congratulations all on a great Monthly challenge. Looks like we had a good run on the textiles. Please would you all post your total for the month for the textile challenge and VL will nominate first, second and third. All others will get one point for participating.
Junque Redux, the Challenge is yours! The Silver Anniversary Challenge starts today, so please formulate the “rules” and interpretation for everyone as soon as you get a chance.
On the subject of challenges, I’m going to give you the next Pop Up Challenge today as well. Although it’s more of a whack-a-mole than a pop up!
Wednesday Woebegones!
Everybody has them. Those items that are just a major pain in the potato to get to. They’re big, or they need cleaning or repair, or they’re an odd size or shape, so you’re going to have to find a special box to list them. Or they’re just impossible to find comps, so you don’t have any idea how to price them. Or you have no freaking idea what the heck they are, let alone doing any research, and you need to take photos and send out an APB for somebody to identify. These are your Woe items listings, and we want them gone – woebegones!
This challenge has a sliding points scale, so you can gather up points as you go along. Each Wednesday, you’re going to post a line or several, about what you did to prepare that little gremlin for listing. You cleaned it, or repaired it, or took photos and got it identified, or asked me to check Worthpoint for valuation (please post the link to the actual Worthpoint item/s and I’ll price them for you.) Everyone who posts on a Wednesday with some action gets one point. You cannot tally up “what I did last week and what I did this week” to get two activity points. One point per week. Trying to encourage participation here.
If you actually list a Woe, you get two points. Listings can be logged on a Monday, in the weekly updates, or on a Wednesday, but please don’t log the same listing twice, as I will be counting listings, not what you listed.
If a Woe sells, you get 4 points.
There are 5 Wednesdays in September, with the first tomorrow and the last on the last day of the month (how awesome did this work out?) You have until midnight on September 30th to log your last activity, your last listing, and your last sale.
So, in summary, we’ve got our normal monthly challenge, the Silver Anniversary Challenge, run by Junque Redux, and our surprise Pop Up Challenge, the Wednesday Woebegones, run by me. Busy busy busy! Final stretch folks, only 16 Fridays left until Christmas!

I really like this Pop Up challenge. I have several items that are causing me a lot of “woe” right now.

Checking in late. On a personal note I had a great week, but my listing total was 0.
This week will be better!

Spreadsheet updated. Libby wins with over double the next highest number for the week! Hooboy! That’s some win, there!
Congrats all!
Please remember to post your final textiles number for VL by end of day today.

My number for the August textiles challenge is 2
-
09/01/2020 at 12:30 pm #81193
Hmm…the rules…okay it has to have actual silver content (e.g. sterling, silverplate), be silver colored (stainless steel! nickel plated! shiny-ish gray!), have silver in the title (“By the Shores of Silver Lake” “Silver Bells” etc.) or have something to do with second place in a contest of some sort (a/k/a the silver medal). Three extra bonus points for anything you list that has to do with a 25th anniversary. One extra bonus point for the most creative justification of how something fits the silver criteria. First, second, third place will be awarded, as well as a Participation Czar to be randomly selected from everyone else who joins in. Have I left anything out?
-
09/01/2020 at 12:58 pm #81197
My August Challenge number remains at 20. A friend texted yesterday morning letting us know he would be arriving in town in the late afternoon, so I cleaned my house all day yesterday instead of listing anything.
-
09/01/2020 at 5:00 pm #81208
Sounds good, JR. Thanks for getting the rules up so quickly. I love the “creative justification” clause! Too funny.
I’ve never heard of a Participation Czar. I might have grown up under a rock. What does that mean?
-
09/01/2020 at 5:21 pm #81210
You’ve never heard of it because I just made it up! It doesn’t really mean anything, just that someone will be picked as the winner from amongst all those who participate but don’t place. I thought giving it a title would make it sound fancier. 🙂

09/01/2020 at 5:07 pm #81209
My total for the August challenge remains at 9.
I like the Woebegone challenge because I always have items that need repair or testing. In fact, I have two such items ready, but haven’t been touched for a month or two. One even has some silver tone metal on it! Wednesdays are, unfortunately, the day that I go into work, but that just means I need to prepare ahead of time!!

Woebegone Wednesday #1
My woes are some vintage sewing machines that have been sitting for months! I listed one of them before the challenge started, but I really have to get them moving. Yesterday I took photos of the model information so that I could research them for listing.
The other major woe is that full size ship’s binnacle that I put up in January, in my past life before COVID started, which is still waiting on my attention. I found this Renaissance Wax after reading up on it’s magic properties and tried it on a small patch of the binnacle to see what happened. Holy blinding Batman! Soooo shiny! It’s going to be several Wednesday’s work to get the whole binnacle shined up, the wood polished, and the rope knotted, but fingers crossed I get the great lunking thing listed by the end of the month. It might end up being somebody’s Christmas present!

Woebegone Wednesday #1
Off the top of my head: I remember that have two signed and framed drawings which I believe are done in pencil but I can’t make out the artist’s signature to research them further. I keep meaning to take photos and ask for help on the forum with identifying the artist. So that’s the first item I’ll be working on for the Wednesdays in September challenge.
-
09/02/2020 at 3:18 pm #81230
WW#1 – I have two original paintings by a local artist. I need to figure out how to price them, how to ship them, etc. It’s really not that hard but they are higher than my usual price point so I feel nervous about the whole thing. Setting myself the goal to list at least one. I am very busy at my day job this month so hopefully it will happen.

Woebegone Wednesday #1
I have a copper tea pot, sugar, and creamer set that I had bought in an auction lot last year. I listed (and sold!) the rest of the lot, but there are two lids with wood knobs that were not connected. I bought wood filler, but haven’t done anything with it. Yesterday (because of the challenge), I filled the holes and now I need to screw them back on. Then, I can photo and list.
At the beginning of the year, I bought an auction lot of scales. I listed everything except for three items that the auctioneer called electronic scales. They are actually not scales, but a heating plates for beakers, like something that a chemist might use. The first one I had looked did heat up, but it also has a function for spinning a magnetic rod that you put in the beaker. I thought I had no way to test it, but later I found that I have some magnetic beads from a jewelry lot. Last night, I heated up water in a large Pyrex cup to boiling, threw in two magnetic beads, and had them spinning like crazy! The other two only have the heating function, but I do have to test them.
Now, for the challenge, can I only take photos and list on Wednesday, or do I just need to report what I’ve done?
-
09/02/2020 at 11:17 pm #81238
If you report some actions taken during the week, on a Wednesday, you get one point. The reports have to be done on a Wednesday to get a point.
If you list an item, you can report it on Monday OR Wednesday, but not both. If you wish, you can report total weekly listings on Monday and comment on Wednesday that of those listings, “x” number were Woes. Or you can just say in the Monday weekly reports “listed “x” this week, of which “y” were Woes.” For each Woe you list, you get two points.
If you sell a Woe, you report it on a Wednesday, and get 4 points.
So one point for a Wednesday report, 2 points for listing EACH item, and 4 points for EACH sale.
-
09/03/2020 at 2:04 am #81239
Here are the totals for the August challenge:
1st place: Junque Redux- 32 listings – 4 points
2nd place: me- 23 listings – 3 points
3rd place: Vintage Treasures – 20 listings – 2 points
Sharyn, Amatino and ChristineR get one point each for participating. Good job everyone! All in all, the group listed 98 textile items!
I don’t have anything to report on the Woe challenge but I do have a WOW report. Charlie proposed to me today and we are now engaged! Woot! If you google search Vista House Crown Point Oregon, you can see the VERY romantic spot he chose for a proposal. Happy dance!
-
09/03/2020 at 8:15 am #81248
Congratulations Vintage Lacy!!! It’s great to hear such wonderful news!
Vista House certainly is a romantic spot to propose. The shape of the building reminds me a little of The Bahai House of Worship which I used to live near in Wilmette, Illinois.
-
09/03/2020 at 8:30 am #81250
I think a WOW Report is better than a Woe report! Congratulations!
-
09/03/2020 at 11:13 am #81254
How terrific! Congratulations VL! Such happy news! Wishing you a wonderful life together! We are all so excited for you. Keep us filled in on all the planning and stuff. We are going to be agog to see what you come up with. You’re amazingly creative!
-
09/03/2020 at 1:05 pm #81256
Phew! Okay, the spreadsheet has been updated with all the participation points for the Monthly challenges. I need to double check the popup challenges.
I’ve also added the Wednesday Woebegones challenge underneath the weekly challenge, so that you can track your progress there.
While we have a clear winner for the weekly challenge, the monthly and pop up challenges give you enough leeway to win, all the way to the very end of the year. Literally, you can zoom to the front at any point, especially with the Pop up challenges. Now that’s some motivation for an end-of-year push, yeah?
The spreadsheet is ALWAYS available with this link for you to check in on your progress and check out your competitors. You will see that JR has had a sudden spurt and is about to overtake me for 4th position. With the cumulative points this month on the Woes challenge, those of you in 2nd and 3rd should watch out – you could be upended!
-
09/04/2020 at 9:35 am #81289
I think you missed my Wednesday Woebegone post?
-
-
09/04/2020 at 2:25 pm #81301
I did! It was read and logged when I had the results under the Pop Up challeng section, but when I realized it was going to be difficult to do there and moved it to its own section, I must have missed your point. So sorry, Sharyn. Thanks for catching that. I have corrected it.
-
09/07/2020 at 11:14 am #81327
16 new listings for me for the week.
My sales are still dismal, I had 3 days again last week with zero sales – ouch. I hope everyone else is doing better than that!
Wishing you all a nice Labor Day!
-
09/07/2020 at 12:02 pm #81329
@VintageTreasures – This is typical for end of summer / at or prior to the start of school / around Labor Day weekend. We just have to expect it. I noticed that Jay and Ryanne had one day with one sale. If they have about 8000 items in their store and can’t sell more than one in a day, you know it’s bad!
@Amatino – Thanks for fixing that!I listed 20 items of which 17 meet the silver challenge and one of those was a Woe.
I got out the flatware from my one commission. There are three flatware sets (!) plus a bag of random stuff where I found two sterling pieces. I’ll be breaking out each set to types of pieces (forks, spoons, knives, serverware, etc) and listing the miscellaneous stuff separately. I already have some flatware listed in one of the sets (Coronation), so I don’t have to take photos for the basic dinner forks, spoons, and knives (and they won’t count in the challenge).

09/07/2020 at 12:36 pm #81331
0 for me this week, with life crisis and distractions. Looking forward to better and cooler days in Fall…
-
09/07/2020 at 12:37 pm #81332
PS. Congratulations Vintage Lacy! What wonderful news.
-
09/07/2020 at 1:47 pm #81336
Thanks everyone for your well wishes! It was so lovely to have something wonderful happen, after such a rough summer. No date set yet…we want to honeymoon in England so we’ll have to wait for things to sort themselves out and see.
33 listings this week for me and none in the silver challenge yet. Way to go Sharyn….you are kicking into high gear!
As far as sales go, mine have been quite brisk but I sell lots of harvest and Halloween and those compose the bulk of my sales right now. I do think things will pick up generally in the next few weeks.
I am glad fall is finally here and Summer 2020 is in the rear view mirror. Onwards and upwards. Hoping everyone has a good week ahead.
-
09/07/2020 at 3:01 pm #81337
19 for me, 2 of which were silver.
Congrats to you and Charlie, VL! That is a lovely spot for a proposal, well done of him.
-
09/07/2020 at 5:45 pm #81341
3 listings – I finally broke my streak of 0 listings. My FT job has been nuts. But I got 3 up this week and each was a multi-quant listing so thumbs up.
-
09/07/2020 at 6:21 pm #81342
Congratulations VL! That is so wonderful to have something to look forward to, very exciting!
My week was very dismal sales wise, record low. I did manage to list 65 items so hopefully that stokes the sales fire. Although it is Monday evening and still pretty slow. Nowhere to go but up. Heres to a great week, Cheers!
-
09/08/2020 at 12:26 pm #81362
My number of listings was 4 for last week, with no silver. I really tried to work out a creative justification for a sewing machine, but couldn’t swing it! LOL.
Spreadsheet updated, Libby wins again. Great job!
Sorry to hear we’re all having a very slow sales period, but I kinda expected it would be. We had record sales in the first half of the year with folks stuck at home with nothing to do but shop online, then they had stimulus checks to play with, buying toys instead of paying rent.
Now folks are back to work and trying to catch up with backlog, or outside revelling in the freedom of being outside, after being cooped up for weeks. Funds are low, because they spent all their money during their confinement and they’re trying to work out how to pay the aforementioned rent. The pendulum will swing back, and our sales will pick up again, once they’re all forced back inside by the cooler weather.
Speaking of cooler weather.. how many of you had snow today? Our weather is glorious! Warm enough to wear shorts and a tee, but cool enough to open the doors and windows and turn off the HVAC. After weeks of 100 degree days, this is lovely! I do feel bad for those of you in the snow, though. Wanna come visit Texas? 😀

WedWoes #2
TL/DR: 3 listings, plus activity.
Those sewing machines that have been sitting waiting for my attention for months now were sitting for a reason! It’s a lot of work getting them tested, cleaned and ready, photographing them, and then doing the research to create an accurate listing that won’t result in an INAD or customer complaint! Anyway, two machines cleaned up and listed.
Also, I had three monitors that have been sitting in my shed for years for the same reason. I reckon they’re as much work as sewing machines, for less money. Once they sell, I will not take monitors again. Cleaned up and listed one. I’m seriously considering listing the other HP and then selling the last one on FB Marketplace. Less work! The shipping’s a killer!
Didn’t get around to the binnacle this week. I really really want to get that listed. I’m hoping somebody decides it’s a great Christmas or retirement present!

WedWoes #2:
No listings, but I did work a bit on searching for more items in unlisted inventory that would qualify for the WedWoes. I know I have a MCM coffee set that I got probably 10 years ago which would work for both the September challenges – it’s silver colored. I bought silver cleaner in order to clean it up to list. It’s pewter and has dents I’d always planned to bend out, but I’ll just clean it and list it as is, otherwise I’ll have it another 10 years 🙂
While looking for the coffee set I found a set of MCM individual snack/appetizer trays(?) that are silver metal with teak handles, I’ve had those forever too. I cleaned those and also a brass(?) metal item that holds long matches: another piece I’ve had forever and never listed. I couldn’t quite figure out what the snack trays or the match holder function was in the past but I think I’ve finally figured out what they might be.
Thanks Amatino for this challenge, it’s good to get going on some of this stuff I’ve had forever!

WedWoes #2:
I listed the heat plate stirrer thing I mentioned last week. I received an offer for it yesterday. It was a little low, and, since I just listed it, I decided to make a counter-offer. I actually debated whether I should just accept the offer so that I could make sure to get those four extra points 😂
I started the repair on the teapot set, but asked my husband to do the drilling. Not that I can’t do it myself, but it helps me get stuff done when he does some of the work (good thing he doesn’t read this forum).
My next plan would be to test the two other heating plates (no stirrer function). I looked through my other “Woes” lying around, and some need research, test, or repair, but some are just things I’m not interested in. I think I should put those out for Freecycling.
I agree with VT that these challenges really help get shit done!!
-
09/09/2020 at 10:50 pm #81427
Quick update: I received another counter offer from the buyer for $5 more. He/she pointed out there was damage on the surface, which would need to be replaced. I double-checked Terapeak and decided to accept the offer of $80. So, assuming the sale is completed, I can get those extra points!

09/10/2020 at 10:43 am #81435
A very late posting for me. I had only 2 listings last week and 0 for the Wednesday Woes. Life is busy lately and getting in the way of listing, but I already have 8 listings for this week.
-
09/10/2020 at 11:42 am #81439
Spreadsheet updated with Utahbill and the WedWoes. Sharyn, if your item sells, it will go into next week’s numbers. Fingers crossed! That will give you the first sale of the challenge!
-
09/10/2020 at 11:46 am #81440
The WedWoes reminded me of this advert, with a little boy who calls everything Wedwo.
P.S. I also love Redro. Haven’t had it in forever, but it was fabulous stuff!
-
09/13/2020 at 8:02 am #81520
I am posting a bit early, but 54 for the week for me. Sales picked up a little, but still not great. I have to get up on a Wednesday challenge one week, I just haven’t had the time. Hope you all have a great productive week, list now, because I think we are going to be too busy shipping to list in Q4. Cheers!
-
09/13/2020 at 2:55 pm #81530
I listed 20 this week, all meet the silver challenge!
-
09/13/2020 at 8:18 pm #81544
0 listings again but I got several photographed that will hopefully get listed this week.
I’ve just today picked up on the WedWoes challenge. I have a pile of clothing that need to be taken to the dry cleaner for either cleaning or repair. Usually I’d just toss or re-donate but these are a bit higher dollar. I’ll aim for getting them to the cleaners this Wednesday!
-
09/13/2020 at 8:23 pm #81545
-
09/14/2020 at 8:56 am #81547
34 new listings for me. One met the Silver Challenge. I’m hoping to get something listed for the Wednesday Woes Challenge before this Wednesday.
Sharyn: Great job on listing 20 for the Silver Challenge!
Libby: “We’ll be too busy shipping to list in Q4” – from your lips to God’s ears!
Wishing everyone a wonderful and profitable week.
-
09/14/2020 at 11:06 am #81551
I had 8 new listings last week.
Have a great week everyone!
-
09/14/2020 at 2:21 pm #81556
19 new listings for me, no silver
-
09/14/2020 at 8:59 pm #81566
52 listings for the week and 1 was silver for the monthly challenge. I’ll have to scramble OR get creative to list more silver items but who knows what will turn up? That’s the silver lining to having big death piles. (see what I did there?)
Hope everyone has a good week and that y’all have better air to breathe than we do here in Oregon. It’s wretched.
-
09/15/2020 at 10:02 am #81575
My bad, I had only 13 listings this week, not 14. The spreadsheet is correct, even if my post was not!
Spreadsheet updated and Libby juuuuust edged VL out to take the win!
Glad to have you on board for the WedWoes, Julie. It’s good to get these old hangers-on out of the way, isn’t it? Don’t forget to post the work you’ve done and any listings tomorrow. 1 point if you post, 2 points for EACH listing. Points can rack up pretty fast in this challenge!
-
09/16/2020 at 9:51 am #81603
WedWoes #3
No new listings and no sales yet, worse luck. However, I did spend several hours polishing up that binnacle. One of the previous owners painted the inside of the binnacle white and splashed paint onto the oil lamps, so I have to scrape that paint off and then polish those up too. Working nights after I’m done with all the other business stuff, I hope to finish it within the next week and get it listed.
I’ve been intensely busy this month with off-eBay projects, so I’m finding this harder than expected, but they wouldn’t be Woes if they were easy! 😀
-
09/16/2020 at 5:39 pm #81611
WedWoes #3
I also had no new Woe listings; however, the Corning hot plate magnetic stirrer did sell for $80!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184434443121
Saturday, I told my family I wanted a Woebegone evening event. They actually agreed, and we got a lot accomplished! I’m ready to list a few items:
The two other hot plates were tested and are now ready to be listed
The kids tested a collection of “Hex Bugs”, an old toy of theirs. A remote controlled hex bug is ready for listing. I purchased new batteries and now need to test a few (non-remote) that didn’t work.
A 16 mm projector was tested and works. I should probably find a 16mm movie reel to show that it fully works, or just sell as-is.
A JC Penney stereo system was tested, and it partially works. I need to decide whether I just want to sell as-is, or try to fix it and sell it at a higher price. There were items I didn’t get to, but I’m very happy with what was done especially considering how long these things have been piled up!
-
09/16/2020 at 6:04 pm #81613
WedWoes #3: Wow, I almost forgot to post! I’m trying to figure out if the item I’ve had forever that I cleaned and listed on Monday should count for the Wednesday Woes challenge. It’s silver and I counted it for the Silver Challenge already. Can we double dip?
I’ve cleaned some other items for WedWoes but haven’t listed those yet. I hope to get to them this week.
-
09/17/2020 at 3:40 pm #81643
Sharyn! Wonderful! And look at you racing into the lead! You may win this one yet!
VT, yup! Double dipping actively encouraged! I mean, it’s double motivation, right? You got your two points.
Julie B, you didn’t post! Did you take the clothes to the cleaners?
Well, we’ve hit the hump for this challenge. 3 Wednesdays down, 2 to go. Sharyn and I tie for first, but one sale and VT makes it a hat-trick! Although, with Sharyn’s list of items ready to go up, we may be in for quite a race! Exciting times!
-
09/21/2020 at 12:08 pm #81748
No, I forgot to take the stupid clothes to the cleaners! Dang nabbit!

09/21/2020 at 9:14 am #81739
Actually got a batch done this week. My eBay BFF and I had a challenge going to see who could list everything we sourced the previous weekend to avoid adding to the Death Piles and she totally motivated me to get to it. I managed 16 out of my 40 items AND I didn’t go sourcing for more this weekend. If I can do the other 24 this week, I’ll have a good listing number and not have added to the DPs at all! Yay!
Wishing you all a great listing week and clear air to those who are suffering in the fires.
-
09/21/2020 at 10:31 am #81741
I had 12 listings last week, which is an improvement for me. This coming Saturday I am going to Idaho to become a campground host for a month or so. Listing will be a challenge, but I plan to take a bunch of small items with me to list. As the Who song says “I’m going mobile”
-
09/21/2020 at 10:32 am #81742
47 for me this week. Hope you all have a good one, I will probably not post for the coming week, I am taking my daughter to finally move into college and visiting with a friend for a few days!
-
09/21/2020 at 10:57 am #81743
45 listings for me and none were silver. But the good news is that we had RAIN a couple of days ago and we finally can breathe without smoke again!
-
09/21/2020 at 11:14 am #81745
23 new listings for me, 1 was silver.
Wishing everyone a productive and profitable week!
-
09/21/2020 at 12:09 pm #81749
42 new listings for me this week! I scored dozens of NWT Chico’s clothes for $3/piece. It was just the score I needed to get me fired up again.
-
09/21/2020 at 1:31 pm #81753
I listed 27 items, and all of them were silver.
I had insisted that someone else chose the challenge for this month, but silver was chosen based on my suggestion. Now all but a few items I’ve listed this month meet the challenge. I’m up to 54. I kind of want to celebrate, but I’m kind of embarrassed.
🤭
-
09/21/2020 at 1:41 pm #81755
Sharyn don’t be embarassed! You are a listing rock star and we should all join you in celebrating such a worthy accomplishment! 54 is HUGE. I am so impressed! Great job!
-
09/21/2020 at 2:16 pm #81756
Julie B – getting the clothes READY to go to the cleaners would have counted as an activity point, if you had posted on Wednesday! 😉 And I have to ask… do you find Chico’s sells well? I’ve had Chico’s sitting in my shop for months and not moving and figured it was one of those oversold items that used to be good but has lost value. Admittedly, mine is used not NWT, so perhaps that makes a difference.
Utahbill – good on you! It’s great to try something new. I’ve not used the mobile listing feature yet, so please report back on how easy/difficult/confusing it was?
Sharyn, you were upfront about having all the stock. You didn’t demand the challenge, you offered three categories and silver was seconded. If you hit a score for this challenge because of that – lucky you! You may have had a zillion pieces of silver, but if you only listed 3, you wouldn’t have gotten far. You did the work: you took photos and did the research and created a listing. And you did it 54 times! I will defend to the death your right to win this challenge based on the work you have done to win it. Anyone who wants to challenge you, does it by listing more than you. Let the silver challenge continue!
-
09/21/2020 at 2:49 pm #81758
No, Chico’s doesn’t sell well but there are a few unicorns out there that do great. I sold an asian inspired embroidered jacket from Chico’s for $199 not too long ago.
If I see Chico’s at a thrift 99% of the time I’ll leave it but I came across a deal that was too good to pass up. All NWT Chico’s that due to Covid were never even stocked in stores. Most items have $79 to $99 price tags. For $3 an item I couldn’t not buy it! One of the best parts is many of the listings are multi-quantity which makes for easy listing. I did leave behind about a dozen pairs of pink fringe pants because even at $3/pair I couldn’t see them selling. 🙂
-
-
09/21/2020 at 2:29 pm #81757
Well, thank-you, for being so good to me. Just that here everyone is saying 1 or 2 or 3 in a week, and here I am with 27!
On the other hand, maybe I should set the challenge every month!!
-
09/21/2020 at 3:02 pm #81759
Sharyn, I second what Amatino said. If you have the items that meet the challenge why wouldn’t you list them? If I could get anyone on board for a sewing pattern challenge I’d totally go for it. I’d be hitting 27 listings per week for the challenge easily 🙂
-
09/21/2020 at 4:43 pm #81762
Hmmm… anyone wanna nominate VT for the leader of the October Sewing Pattern challenge? *wicked grin*
We could make it a full out Arts and Crafts challenge?
-
09/21/2020 at 5:09 pm #81765
Ugh zero for me. Part non-Ebay busyness and fun friend time, and part laziness to be truthful. I feel a bit of the Covid blahs. Worst part is that I went thrifting one day and have a pile of retail arbitrage to catch up on. Usually I always get my RA items listed right away.
-
09/21/2020 at 5:28 pm #81767
I hereby nominate VT for the October challenge…..you are on! It could be an Arts & crafts challenge…..or it could be a paper/ephemera challenge. Heh heh heh. Gauntlet thrown.
-
09/21/2020 at 9:05 pm #81775
VL, you have the coolest ideas! I love that twist!
Only… I started thinking about it and, practically, what would you include in that? For Arts & Crafts, you have a very broad interpretation. But I can’t think of any ephemera that I have. How would you make it as inclusive as possible? Maybe we could make it a quartet? The ACP&E Challenge! Arts, Crafts, Paper and Ephemera! Wouldn’t it be cool if this challenge was the one that everyone participated in! LOL
Oh, wait. I have some movie posters. Would those count as ephemera? Only… I don’t have a lot, so I’d get points for participating, but there’s no chance I’d win. 🙁
LOL. As if I win anything! My daughter made a rude comment about goldfish attention span the other day (referring to her tween son) and I told her “Be nice! Goldfish are my spirit animal!” If I was less of a goldfish, I’d probably get a lot more done! 😀
Still think VT runs it though. Hers was the originating idea!

I’d certainly count movie posters as ephemera. Magazines too, but I wouldn’t count books. I think it would be cool to do a book challenge at some point but I think they need their own challenge. I will also say that as far as Arts & Crafts goes…..broad interpretation is grand, but I wouldn’t include fabric. Primarily because at least half of what I list most weeks is fabric and it would give me an unfair advantage.
VT…it’s up to you! 🙂

Thanks for the nomination VL!
What about a paper challenge? That way fabric is out but sewing patterns would be in, plus anything else made of paper – best of both worlds? Works for me but could also work really well for everyone else too. Paper would include books though – is paper too broad a category?
-

Paper seems like a good challenge to me. I have a few posters and two 1930s college yearbooks, probably some other items here and there. I vote to keep the books in! Would a laminated poster count? (It’s plastic, but paper in the core).
-
09/22/2020 at 3:03 pm #81815
I like this challenge. I plan to take a box of paper and ephemera with me on my month long road trip in October. Yes, books are obviously made of paper, but I think they deserve their on stand alone challenge. Maybe even one for fiction and another for nonfiction.

Well, it looks like it’s unanimous, then. VT is our October nominator for the Paper Challenge. If you’ll put the specifics together, VT, and post them on October 1st, that would be great!
Unfortunately, it seems we have lost LittleBlueHouse, as this is the 6th week of not posting. I hope everything is okay. LBH, if you come back, we can reinstate you. If you look on the spreadsheet, you’ve just been moved down, not deleted entirely.
An interesting week, with three folks listing in the 40s, two in the 20s, and two in the tens. Very evenly spread. With only a couple points between you, Libby managed to edge in for the win. Great job! Wishing you fun with your daughter and your friend. Spreadsheet updated.
Don’t forget WedWoes! This is our penultimate Wednesday. If you do ANY work to prep a longstanding pain-in-the-posterior and get it listed and out of the house, and you post about what you did, you get a Wednesday point. Grab those clothes that need to go to the dry cleaners and toss them in the car. Even if they don’t get to the dry cleaners by Wednesday, the fact that you did that will both earn you a point AND encourage you to get to the dry cleaners! If you put the shoes in a row and dug out the polish, but you haven’t polished them yet, and you post about it, you get a Wednesday point.
Of course, if you actually list something, you get two points. List 10 things and you earn 20 points and could win the Challenge. It’s honestly that easy!
HUGE bonus – if you actually sell something, you get 4 points.
So whaddya waiting for? Go list already!

WedWoes #4 No point for me today. I’ve been working like a mad thing on costumes for our new show coming up in 10 days, so no work on any woes. That binnacle is sitting here next to my desk, leering at me. Arrogant thing! 😀
-
09/23/2020 at 12:22 pm #81851
I haven’t made progress on any of my self-identified woes, but I did take a bunch of stuff to the Goodwill that had been taking up the back of my car forever, does that count?
I haven’t had the intersection of time and will to list lately. Maybe the paper challenge will help!
-
09/23/2020 at 12:30 pm #81852
Nothing for me either on the WedWoes challenge. But we still have one more WedWoes chance left this month!
-
09/23/2020 at 5:32 pm #81864
WedWoes #4
I listed two other hot plates I mentioned earlier.
I have a hex bug waiting to be tested with the new batteries I ordered, so I can do at least that to get on the board next week.
-
09/24/2020 at 11:20 am #81886
Well done, Sharyn, you’ve moved into the lead.
Sure does, JR. Glad you’re joining in! Your second point is up.
Only one Wednesday to go! Get your listings up, and hopefully get some sales through, and don’t forget to post next Wednesday.
Now I’ve got to get this danged binnacle listed! It’s deliberately right next to my desk so that I have to walk around it, but it still isn’t finished. *looks balefully at binnacle* I have a week to get it done, but the same week to finish three dance costumes. When I figure out why I do this to myself, I can probably write a book!
-
09/24/2020 at 3:51 pm #81892
“The Baleful Binnacle” sounds like something Lemony Snicket would write…maybe that should be your book 🙂

Thanks for the nomination and support for the Paper Challenge in October!
Books are included and Sharyn: your poster would qualify since it’s made of paper (even though it’s laminated). My reasoning for including books is that if you do sell books you have lots of items that will qualify for the paper challenge. A few of us don’t sell books at all so a book challenge on it’s own would rule out some of the usual participants completely. Since the whole monthly challenge idea was to get more people to participate I’m trying to make sure it’s a challenge that everyone can get on the board with. If I was a book seller I’d just consider the paper challenge my book challenge and kill it!
I’ll probably post the points info a little early since I expect to be out of town as of 9/30 for a few days. But the challenge won’t start until 10/1/20.

Good morning all and happy Monday!
Great week of 20 listings for me, including… yay!… one silver! I’m on the board. Phew! *wipes forehead and fans self* 😀
Did you know that today is Ask a Stupid Question Day? Kid you not! It’s also National Good Neighbor Day, so you can decide which one you prefer! LOL
I’m going to be a good neighbor and send a photo of the cat we adopted, from our deceased neighbor, to his widow, so that she can enjoy his antics.
And you know I just have to post a stupid question!
A witch has cast a spell on you turning you into an inanimate, non-electronic object for a year. To be changed back into human form before the year is up, you need to be able to get at least a hundred people to touch you. What inanimate object would you be?
-
09/28/2020 at 12:24 pm #81983
9 new listings for me, I missed my weekly goal by just 1 listing, darn it! I’m still stuck at 2 total listings for the Silver Challenge, and zero listings for WedWoes. Sigh.
Amatino, in answer to your question I would be a Laughing Buddha statue. I can think of other items that would be touched more often (like money) but I like the idea of bringing people good luck.

October Challenge Info:
Posting early because I’ll be out of town – this challenge starts on October 1st and runs through October 31st.
The October challenge is paper. Anything made primarily of paper will count. Paper ephemera, books, magazines, paper party supplies like tissue paper decorations, invitations, stationery, sewing patterns, playing cards, posters, etc. Cardboard also counts, so board games would qualify for this challenge.
Points awarded for the most paper items listed during the month of October…first, second and third place.

I had quite the bonanza listing this week, but it was really helped by the fact that I was listing related items. Most were silver plate flatware from four different patterns/manufacturers.
I listed 43 items, all but two were silver.
My silver total is 105. I’ll update on the 30th if I add to it, but I think I’m bored with silver for now.
To answer your question, the thing I thought of was a bath towel. That should get me to 100 even if the person took a bath every other day. I like VT’s pick better. I’m just too practical. Maybe I’ll think of something more interesting later on.

09/29/2020 at 1:12 am #82013
Clocking in late again. I listed a total of 9 items last week.
I hope everyone has a great week!
-
09/29/2020 at 7:47 am #82026
0 for me last week, very busy at work. This week probably will be the same. Hopefully next will be better.
I think would be the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, or some similar place with religious significance that draws a lot of pilgrims. That would get me to 100 pretty quick. Although maybe it would be interesting to be an inanimate object for a little bit and experience the world that way, so I should choose something less popular? That would assume you retain some sort of consciousness, though. Overthinking the stupid question, story of my life….

09/29/2020 at 9:03 am #82028
26 items listed for me. Have a productive week, everyone!
-
09/29/2020 at 11:52 am #82035
Due to the login problems experienced by the Forum yesterday, I’m extending the posting period to include today. Post all your listings for last week by COB today for a chance to win the weekly listing challenge.
Don’t forget, tomorrow is the last day for the September Silver challenge, and your numbers for it must be posted by Thursday October 1st for JR to post the winners.
Also, tomorrow is the last day for the WedWoes challenge. If you did anything to get some long outstanding items listed, post about it tomorrow to get a participation point. If you actually listed some of those items, you get 2 points for EACH item. And if one of them sold, you get 4 points per item. You can really rack up the points here! But you MUST post about it tomorrow to get a point!

50 listings for me last week and one was silver so I now have 2 for the silver challenge, and that’s my final number, as I won’t be doing any more silver in the next day or so. I am totally psyched for the paper challenge next month! I have several stacks of books eyeing me balefully, as well as boxes of patterns, so I plan to post BIG numbers…..
I love questions like that, Amatino. My first thought was the Blarney Stone in Ireland, but perhaps kissing isn’t considered “touching”……so I thought of several others. The front door to Powell’s books in downtown Portland. A teapot used for high tea in Claridge’s Hotel in London. The railing on the observation deck at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
(Can you tell that I really REALLY miss travelling?)

Zero for me last week. Not a great time of year on Ebay to be busy with other things, but that’s life.

September Silver Challenge:
My total for September Silver listings is One silver item. Plus one bonus item attempt per JR’s rather unusual rules.
Never one to bypass a challenge, I went hunting for something that would be a creative justification of how something fits the silver criteria. Now if it actually had silver content, was silver colored, had silver in the title or was related to second place, it wouldn’t need a creative justification – at least, to my twisted thinking.
So here is my creative justification. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184467880967
My husband is half Hopi and he introduced me to Kokopelli as the god of mischief and fertility. According to legend everyone in the village would sing and dance throughout the night when they heard Kokopelli play his flute. The next morning, every maiden in the village would be with child. The lyrics of the song “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” state that the singer “wants to spoon” with their love. So I am putting forward that my mischievous god operates under the silvery moon to get all of the maidens knocked up. Therefore, this counts as a “silver” listing, the silver being in intent, if not in fact. 🙂
Looking forward to any other “interesting” justifications! LOL

Weekly listings spreadsheet updated and the win goes to VL for her half-century listings!
VL – your baleful books can join my baneful binnacle and JR can ghostwrite the book for us! LOL
Loved all the silly question answers. Such fun! Himself said he’d be a doorknob in one of those marijuana shops in Colorado. He said he would be human again in half an hour! He couldn’t believe the number of people who were in and out of there in the 20 minutes he waited for his friend to get his order. Neither the hubs nor I have ever smoked cigarettes or done drugs, so we don’t see the attraction, but his friend says that in CO they have the “good stuff”. Go CO! 😀
Don’t forget to post your Silver challenge totals by COB tomorrow!

WedWoes #4 Last one!
Listed another sewing machine. Yay! Got two more to get up and then it’s all of my outstanding machines done. We have new machines coming in all the time, I’ll always have machines to list, but these ones have been sitting for about six months now, so it feels great to have gotten them done! I want to use the motivation to do these last two. And then there’s the Baleful Binnacle to finish. Sigh… It was good to have this Challenge to motivate me to get it done and sorted, though!

WedWoes #4
I listed one of the Hexbugs. This brings my total to 4 Woes listed and 1 sold.
I really appreciated the challenge, and I’m happy with what I accomplished. I also did do some testing that focused my to-do list.
-
09/30/2020 at 9:17 pm #82060
My total for the silver challenge is the same as I mentioned Monday, 105 silver items listed! They were either sterling, silver plate, stainless steel, or just plain steel. No creative justifications; all items silver in color.
-
09/30/2020 at 11:17 pm #82063
My totals are 2 items for the Silver Challenge and just posts for WedWoes, no WedWoe listings.
The Paper Challenge starts Thursday 10/1!

While I adore living in the middle of nowhere, the downsides are few but danged annoying. Case in point, a really crappy internet connection and my Dropbox has been unable to sync to upload the new week. Hopefully it will be up soon and you can see the live version at the usual link. I can’t give you an expected date, because the recording at the ONLY internet provider in our area states “yes, we know it’s down; yes, we’re working on it; no, we don’t know when it will be fixed.” Quite literally, almost verbatim. Sincere apologies, but here’s a screenshot for now.

Totals for September’s Silver Challenge:
Sharyn – #1 with a whopping 105 items – 4 points
Four-way tie for #2 between the Vintages Treasures and Lacy, Amatino, and myself, all of us with 2 items – 3 points each
1 extra bonus point to Amatino for her extra-creative justification of her second silver item. I was completely convinced by her rationale. So a total of 4 to Amatino, tying with Sharyn. (Sharyn will have the last laugh when all her stuff sells, though.)
Since everyone made the scoreboard, no Participation Czar will be anointed.
If I forgot anyone or just can’t count properly, let me know.

Yay! I won the Creative Award! Woot woot! I really enjoyed that challenge, actually. It was fun thinking out of the box as I rummaged through my stash! All points have been updated for the September Silver challenge.
Thanks JR for posting the results swiftly. It’s great to have your participation.
Regarding the WedWoes challenge, Sharyn nailed it again. A double win in September, Sharyn! And look at you whizzing to the front of the Challenges with that effort. Go you!
VT and JR also got points added, and I still didn’t get that danged binnacle listed. (Note, JR, it has been promoted from “baleful” to “danged”. If I don’t get it listed this month, it probably will end up being on the NSFW scale!)
Well done to everyone. On to the October Paper Challenge.
Be warned, I already have a Pop Up challenge in mind and you’re not getting any other warning than this one. Remember to watch out for any posts in the Listing Challenge Thread, as it could pop up any day! *wink*
