Hello,
In response to the requests for someone who has dealt with an INAD recently, I have.
I think as long as the buyer puts INAD in the reason for return, the actual reason they are returning the item doesn’t come into play until you the seller pay for the return shipping and receive the item back. Then as Ryanne says, the seller calls eBay to appeal the reason for the return. It is exactly as Ryanne describes above, except for the last sentence.
After you call to appeal, if eBay agrees with you that it is not a legitimate INAD return, then eBay instructs you to refund the buyer MINUS the amount you paid to have the item shipped back to you. So you don’t just hope that you get your return shipping refunded. You have the customer pay for the return shipping by deducting the return shipping cost from the customer’s refund.
I’m not sure how it would work if the return shipping was more than the item actually cost though.05/14/2018 at 12:05 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #2 From Week 19 (May 7-13) #39864My numbers for this week May 6 – 12, 2018: 30 new listings. I was still out of town on Sunday the 6th. Sunday is usually a pretty solid listing day for me, so that didn’t help with my numbers. Then I had trouble getting back into the groove of listing after having fun for most of the previous week. Hopefully this week will be better for getting some listings done!
I hope all you Moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! My fur baby decided my Mother’s Day gift was to vomit on my blanket while I was asleep under it on Mother’s Day morning. Nice!05/14/2018 at 11:51 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 360: Is Diversification a Myth or Reality? #39861My Numbers Week of May 6 – 12, 2018

Number of Items Listed Last Week: 8 – I was out of town for 4 days last week so not much time was devoted to listing.Regarding the caller on the podcast this week, the same scam was attempted on my husband when he sold a $600 watch he no longer wanted. As soon as the buyer paid my husband got a message re: the watch that said: “Oh, this watch is a gift for my Dad. Please send it directly to him at this name and address rather than the name and address listed in Paypal.”
I do think a novice seller might fall for this scam. My husband is not a regular eBay seller but he of course noticed that the buyer’s eBay name and the eBay name of the person who sent the message didn’t match and ignored the message.
I’ve never had this happen to me with thousands of sales but I assume this scam is only targeted to expensive items – which unfortunately isn’t the kind of thing I ever find to sell!I’m sorry to hear your daughter ended up in the ER and I just wanted to say I hope she’s okay.
Hello Fellow Trash Elf Twins!
Here are my sad new listing numbers for the week of 4/29-5/5/18. Drum roll please – A total of 8. I was out of town on a long getaway weekend (plus – Wednesday through Sunday) with my sister, which was super fun. Consignment store and thrift store shopping galore! But I did no listing at all after Tuesday. Hope all your numbers are better!

Hello All,
Thank you for allowing me to join the challenge so late in the game! Here are my numbers since April 1st. I haven’t been keeping track of DP or non-DP so I can’t break that down. These are just the brand new, never listed it before listings; and not counting any 30 day re-listings.4/1 – 4/7/18: 46
4/8 – 4/14/18: 24
4/15 – 4/21/18: 66
4/22 – 4/28/18: 55I would say that my numbers this month are way above average for me. I recently got a basic store subscription instead of just using the 50 free listings and then paying for any overage. I wanted to get my listings up closer to 250 so I would feel like I’m getting the most out of my subscription. So I’ve been hitting listing pretty hard (for me).
I just want to second AdventureE and sonia. Just leave the “We apologized and refunded 100%” and then don’t give it another thought. I got my first negative after being on eBay since 2002, of course just dabbling in it for most of that time, but it hurt! It didn’t change my sales one bit though, I think everyone knows you can’t please everyone all of the time and that there are some people who are just negative no matter what. I don’t think people look at 99.something positive feedback and think anything but “wow, great seller”. Also for me, the negative was really freeing – after that I didn’t ever worry about getting my first negative and it ruining my 100% positive feedback rating. So that’s the silver lining.
Hello Amatino and Elf Twins!
I’d like to join the challenge if you’ll have me. I didn’t join earlier because I thought it was mainly a death pile challenge and I felt like I’d run out of death pile stuff before the year was up.
Hmm, who am I kidding? More like I don’t like to list the death pile stuff, after all it’s in the pile for a reason, am I right?
So I’m thinking I can post my numbers since April 1st if you’ll have me and I’ll just personally compare my results with whomever I’m paired with as of that date. I can’t give accurate listing numbers from before April 1st because before then I counted all my 30 day expired relists as part of my new listing numbers and that’s not kosher!Hope to be joining you!
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to follow up on my request for help. I followed through with what Jay said: “We dispute any INAD case that is classified incorrectly. We win these cases more often than not. eBay gave you the correct info. First you accept the return no matter what. If the buyer doesn’t return it in six business days, call to have it closed. If he does send it back, then you dispute the reason and just refund the buyer for the cost of the item.”
I accepted the INAD return (like others have stated I was not able to dispute the reason for the return previous to getting the return back) and then when I got the item back I called eBay and explained the situation. Ebay had me refund the buyer minus the shipping to the buyer and the return shipping to get the item back. So it cost the buyer $8.00 in shipping. Of course after I refunded $8.00 less to the buyer, he left me negative feedback. So I called eBay again and they removed the negative feedback right away. All’s well that ends well. Thanks everyone for your help, I understand the procedure now.
Super late to the party but here are my numbers (finally) for 4/15/18 – 4/21/18
Total items in store: 4/15/18: 179 to start and 4/21/18: 201 at end of week
Items sold: 29 eBay and 2 Etsy
Cost of items sold: $44.75 (approximately)
Total Sales: $480.03 eBay and $13.00 Etsy (shipping not included on Etsy)
Highest Price Sold: $77.00 plus shipping for Large Vtg Lot 46 Cracker Jack Bubble Gum Gumball Charms Prizes Mini Toys Plastic
Average Price Sold: $15.90
Returns: None, and I got the negative feedback from my last return removed by eBay:)
Items listed: 66 – I was on fire, which resulted in burn out this week – how do some of you continue to list so many things week after week?So last week was a good week for me. My first sale on Sunday 4/15 was my highest dollar sale. $77.00 for part of a lot of Cracker Jack or Gumball Machine Charms that I got at an estate sale. This was an interesting sale because it proved to me that auctions are sometimes the way to go. I bought the whole box of charms for $8.00 (which I thought was outrageous but I couldn’t say no to the sweet Granny selling her Grandmothers things). First I put up a lot of 20 metallic colored cars for $9.95 minimum bid at auction. Those closed at $10.50 with 2 bids. Then I did a lot of 58 metallic colored charms for a minimum bid of $12.00, those got 1 bid – $12.00. So I figured it was a bad buy and thought about doing the last lot (not metallic colored, 46 pieces) as a BIN for a little higher and holding out just to make a little profit on the buy. But I ended up putting those up for auction also starting at $10.00. They went to $77.00! So apparently the metallic colored ones aren’t sought after but the dyed plastic ones are? Who knows, but I do know that after the first 2 auction results I wouldn’t have put a $77.00 BIN on the last lot. Probably judging from the other 2 I would have put $20.00 at the most. So I’d have left $57.00 on the table. Auctions are good if you don’t know what you have I reckon.
Hope everyone is having a profitable week!
04/16/2018 at 9:51 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 355: We Catch Up w/ Maria & Ryan from Passport Vintage Austin, TX #37742Week of 4/8 – 4/14/18
Total items in store: Beginning of week: 177 and end of week: 179 for eBay, + around 100 listings on etsy.
Cost of items sold: $38.08 (approximately)
# of items sold: 18 eBay & 4 etsy
Total sales: $216.21 eBay & $59.00 etsy (shipping paid by buyers excluded on etsy): $275.21 in total
Highest price sold: $24.95 1885 Amber Buffalo Ball Quart Jar Reproduction – Limited Edition from 1976 for sale for a long time on eBay without selling, moved it to etsy and sold it 🙂
Average price sold: $12.51 🙁 Low priced sewing patterns hurting average price sold again
Returns: 0
# of new listings: 24 (was traveling for a couple of days so wasn’t listing for 2 days)
$ spent on new inventory: $16.00I won my return case for INAD on eBay this morning. It was ruled buyer’s remorse by eBay. This was the return where the buyer saw a photo of the front and the back of the item combined in one photo and expected to receive quantity 2 although he didn’t change the quantity to 2. (I had 2 identical items for sale on 1 listing with the quantity box at the top where the default is 1 but it shows how many you have for sale.) I can only guess that he didn’t read the listing and got so excited to get 2 vintage NIP items for such a crazy low price he overlooked the quantity box also. Anyway, I refunded the purchase price but the buyer paid the shipping both ways. The customer service (in India?) was excellent! And literally no wait time on the phone, I called within the first hour that they opened.

Total items in store on 4/1/18: 147
Cost of items sold: Approximately $16.00
Number of items sold: 19 eBay, 3 etsy
Total Sales: $312.08 (includes buyer paid shipping) eBay + $18.00 etsy (doesn’t include buyer paid shipping)
Highest price sold: $29.95 – but this item has been returned for a refund. So a 3 way tie for $24.95 between Embroidery Machine CD, Vintage Crewel Embroidery Kit and Tarot Card Deck.
Average price sold: $15.00 – ouch!
No new returns
# of new items listed this week: 46 🙂
$ spent on new inventory week of 41-4/7/18: $8.59
Number of items in store on 4/7/18: 177Listing my weekly sales on this forum has been really helpful to me as just a part-time hobby seller. I’m seeing that I really need to get my ASP up. I’m a sucker for sewing related items but those $5.00 sewing pattern sales pull my ASP down a lot. Unfortunately I have about a zillion sewing patterns in my death piles so unless I decide to donate them my ASP will continue to be pretty low… I do think I’ll try to pull out a few “high dollar, sure thing” items to list to boost my spirits. So far this week looks like it will be horrible $-wise for me, my sales are dead! So I’ll need the boost next week. Thanks everyone for all the great information, it’s because of this forum that I knew to pick up the tarot cards!
Wishing you all great finds and sales!
Thanks Jay for telling me that I should accept the return no matter what. I just did so and today was my last day to do that. I will call eBay again when I get the item back and dispute the reason for the return. I didn’t understand that I should accept the return “no matter what” and THEN dispute the reason for the return. I thought that by accepting the return for the wrong reason that meant that I was saying that I agreed with the reason for the return. Thanks again for your assistance, your help is priceless!
