There you go.. great COGS.. nice profit margin.
Regarding the bundling, go with your instincts. There’s no secret formula to it. Just imagine yourself the buyer and take it from there. If the books really have no value, it’s better to donate them and make room for profitable stuff that will move.
The Thomas Guide will sell for sure. I always pick those up Pre-1980.
The Kettle Falls book looks like a winner. You may want to rework the title though. You’ve got great information in the description (Key Words) and a very brief title. I like these very specific low volume books. There’s always someone looking for them.
It’s the only one out there, so raise the price to $29.95 and charge for shipping. It’s long tail either way, you may as well get paid for your labors.
I sold an obscure unknown book once, that was signed by the author. The buyer actually knew the author when she was a child and was very excited she found the book. I was very excited she bought the book too. I think I sold it for $32, but probably could have gotten more. Oh well sold is sold and I made someone happy.
I like what you’ve listed so far. Once you start listing bundles, your piles will shrink pretty quick.
What are the dimensions? A piece of art seems like it would be too big.
Dating Bibles can be tricky, if there’s no date on them. You have to look at similar items and do a lot of guessing. Sometimes people will sign and date them when given as gifts. You can also look at the publisher or the keywords ie: Red Letter, Self pronouncing etc.
Very specific directories tend to be long tail items, but if there aren’t any out there, they should eventually sell. Unless there is something really special about them, you’re probably looking at $20 to $60.
Selling and pricing books is not that much different than anything else. Research research research… Of course condition is also very important.
Don’t forget to bundle..
Good Luck
Unless there’s something special about it, That seems like a pretty low price seller.
I’d place it in the pile for possible bundling or donate. You never know though.
For now I’d be creating 3 piles 1-List.. 2-Maybe.. and 3-Donate. The maybe list would be for bundling or a 2nd look.
Nothing fun yet.. any books from the 1800s.
I often just double box with heavy breakable items The first box floats inside the larger box. I did this with a large snow globe that was shipped to the UK. So far, I’ve had no damage claims.
It sounds like it’s time to get out the video camera and make your haul video.. “How I made $10,000 on Ebay with items I got for free.”
I use an awful lot of Newspaper when I’m packing.
Another alternative is to get larger Styrofoam pieces and chop them up. It can get a bit messy, but they are generally easy to come by.
I’ve also used shredded paper and the stuffing from old quilts and pillows, not to mention foam rubber if you happen on some.
Good luck
Anyone know of Smartpost has been fixed?
Thanks
Good Deal..
Depending on what you have, you may want to actually create more than one book category in your store. (Books Text, Books Music, Books Religious etc. or whatever applies to your cache.)
It will make things easier to manage later on when you have a lot more listed.
The more you list, the easier it will get.
Good Luck
02/20/2018 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Neutral Feedback for Item Stolen Out of Mailbox – How to handle? #33457A Neutral will not be visible to your buyer, unless they deliberately click on your feedback. With 100% positive, they probably won’t. If they do, then they can click on the feedback and see the comments.
If they see the comments it will be evident that the feedback was not deserved.
In other words, is it worth the effort to make steps to get it changed. A phone call is no big deal, but to file a USPS claim is more effort that I think I’d go to on this one. The buyer has issues with his deliveries that he needs to address on his own.
It’s tough to keep perfect feedback with all the unreasonable and grumpy buyers out there. I think you already dodged a bullet, because the buyer gave you a neutral and not a negative.
Good Luck
If I brought money with me, I think I could have done a lot better. They had tons of free stuff, but a lot more that they didn’t want to give away, but would have taken just about anything for. I think $50 would have absolutely filled up the car.
Dad is relocating and my understanding is every little bit of money helps.
There were suitcases, but the ones I already have don’t sell. There was also lots of furniture.
In a couple of weeks they are going to do the major purge and really clean it out. While I was there, they were making room for the dumpster.
I ended up with a few books and a brand new pair of boots.
They were real nice people. If I’d known the situation, I definitely would have brought some money with me.
When it rains, it pours..
On my way to donating 4 large boxes of stuff, I noticed a big pile being made, in front of one of my neighbors houses. Sure enough a relative passed away and all this stuff was being trashed.
I found a large lot of “Mr Potato Head” pieces. A box filled with various assorted Christmas ornaments, a cast iron skillet with lid and other various items.
I ended up with as much stuff as I donated.
I also hit a free Ad, as a man was downsizing from a house to a 1 bedroom apt. I got a few items but met some really nice people.

So Cal Joe.
In just received an Email that I’m getting a shipping adjustment (my first) on a package. I paid for 3 lbs and actual weight is 1 lb. They’re giving me back $4.40.
In know for a fact that package weighed 2.5 lbs.
No, I’m not going to get on the phone and try to correct them. With my luck, they’ll misunderstand and charge me $4.40, instead of understanding the postage was correct.
Obviously the system has some issues. If anything changes, I’ll post it.
