I virtually stopped sourcing listing about 2 months ago as I’ve got an upcoming move. My sales dropped, but less than I though it would. This week I changed my handling time from 1 day to 2 and sales are almost zero now.
I’m waiting to see if sales pick up again. If not I’ll go back to one day and see what happens.
James Michener.. very detailed and usually long books. He incorporates fiction with historical facts. I’ve read Space, Hawaii, Chesapeake, and Caravans.
Space is a great book, but fades a bit at the end.
I also enjoy Clive Cussler and Michael Crichton for pure entertainment.
Ayn Rand – Atlas Shrugged.. What a read. It was a great story, but way too wordy and detailed.
The trucking industry went through this years ago. each truck has to pay roadtax to each state they travel in, based on the miles they travel.
Back in the day, you would see semi-trucks rolling around with 20 or more license plates on them and they would have to individually pay each state.
Now they submit one mileage report each month (or quarter?) to IFTA who handles the collection and payment of the taxes.
Hopefully common sense prevails with this situation as well.
I believe the answer is a sales tax for merchandise sold on the internet. One number for everyone and let the government dole it out from there. Just keep it simple.
Ebay (or whoever) should tack it on to each sale and better yet be responsible for paying it to the government.
The way it is set up now is way too complicated. You have to figure state sales tax, county tax and local tax.
I’m not an advocated for more taxes, but this is a long time coming. If it’s kept simple and automatic, people will pay it and move one. If it becomes a burden, it will drive some people underground and off the internet.
I agree, it’s going to be w while before it gets implemented as no state is going to want to give up an advantage they may have.
More power to you.. if you’ve found a niche that works.. go for it.
I’m in the process of liquidating the New in the box baseball cards from the early 90’s and the vintage cards are sitting in storage.
I have no regrets.. it was a great learning experience and I’ve still got that Yastremski Rookie card.
The world is full of opportunities if you know where to look.
I also Photograph the chest measurement with the measuring stick present, in case it’s not exact on the inch and the buyer can see it for themselves.
06/19/2018 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Celeb Super-Fan box of stuff…list individually or as a lot? #42878He started on the Andy Griffith show in the early 1960’s with sporadic appearances, then was spun off onto his own show. He also did the Carol Burnett show and others.
Without seeing everything and doing the research I wouldn’t know what to price it at. Personally, I’d probably break it up into groups. One group might be the items directly related to this particular collector.
Good Luck..
06/19/2018 at 6:31 pm in reply to: Celeb Super-Fan box of stuff…list individually or as a lot? #42873I wouldn’t worry too much about the stalker aspect. I imagine celebrities generally don’t write back to or have breakfast with stalkers. It sounds like the relationship was on a friendly level and possibly more.
It also sounds like all the parties involved are long deceased. I’d sell it all. How many listings you create depends on how you want to group them. I would keep the personal related items (photos and letters) together.
I think you’ve found a gold mine with great provenance. Someone somewhere is going to be very happy to buy this stuff from you.
You’ve got the Andy Griffith Connection, the Gomer Pyle connection, the singer connection and of course the gay celebrity connection.
If I’d purchased it, I’d be a very happy guy. Don’t be surprised if you get some interesting questions once you list it. people will want to know if you’d ever met him etc..
FYI- If you are uncomfortable selling any of it, just send those items to me and I’ll happily pay the postage.
Good Luck with it..

You’ve got to see him on the old Andy Griffith Mayberry Episodes. Way too funny.
I would think of that as a pipeline..
The bigger question is, how much time do you want to put into it? I enjoy the old movies and Hollywood celebrities, so it would be a lot of fun for me. Sure it’s long tail, but the really good stuff generally is. Also the quantity of listings will bring the Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) fan traffic to your store.
If he had one Superfan, I’m sure there are others.
Good Luck
06/18/2018 at 4:46 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Trucker hats, Stereo equipment, Old mechanics creeper, Omemee tea cup, Vintage Canister Set, Water blaster #42757I was at an Estate sale on the last day over a year ago and filled up a large box (paid $20) with really nice pillow cases, some sheets and lots of fabrics. It turns out I couldn’t identify most of the stuff, but some of the fabrics were labeled. After being listed over a year, I made a couple of sales.
I took a best offer of $85 for this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/132659363225
This sold for $49.98 https://www.ebay.com/itm/142813601045
I have a few more items still listed.
Thanks
06/18/2018 at 11:26 am in reply to: Buyer undercharged for multi-quantity purchase with Ebay combined shipping #42736I just don’t list multiples of an item anymore, unless they are light enough that I won’t get burned on the shipping (Like some of my shirts). Once a sale is made, I just sell similar to keep the listing up.
If it’s something I think they may want to buy multiples of, I’ll either create a listing including more than one, or I’ll note in the listings that I have multiples and the buyer can contact me for more.
Once in a while, I still get burned, but not too bad. Generally, if someone buys multiples, I’m so happy for the sale, that I’m willing to eat some shipping.
The Ebay combined shipping calculator, just makes no sense for me.
Wow, that looks very nice..
How did you make the banner..?
Thanks
Let me guess.. they bought inexpensive items…
At this point it becomes an exercise in appeasing an unreasonable buyer. Since the buyer, seems to have all the power these days, I would give them a refund and say something nice to them. You can’t fix whatever is really going wrong in their lives. It makes sense to appease them and don’t engage unnecessarily.
My favorite strategy for getting over it is remembering all the good buyers who pay full price and leave me great feedback.
Good Luck.
Did you know that you can configure your store to be divided into Ebay categories?
In certain situations, it should make your store easier to navigate for your customers.
Just go in to edit your store and change the setting. Later, you can always change it back if you feel your own categories are better.
Sorry for Hijacking the thread, but I figured you’d read this Sigilini..
