Just got this message in my box… thought you would want to see it:
Just an update: Item sold for $85.00 plus shipping!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/163151213870
Thank you again for all the help in sorting this out.
Thank you everyone for all the input. T-Satt, thank you for that 101 info, very very helpful. I get it now.
No insurance, having to drive items to drop off location instead of mail pickup, and slow delivery are definitely cons. I would have to seriously consider on a case by case basis to see if the cost will compensate for the cons.
Something I recently learned about offers:
I don’t do best offers on most items but when I get a message asking if I would consider lowering the price on an item, and the item is still fresh or it is seasonal (e.g. Christmas, etc.), I write back thanking them for their interest and letting them know that if the item does not sell within a couple of months or after the Holiday, I will definitely reduce the price.
So far this has been successful as the buyers seem to appreciate this handling of their communication. And in one case the person decided to purchase the $150.00 item at full price plus shipping rather than take the chance that it will be gone.
Just wanted to share this in case it helps anyone else.
Pythonesk:i have read and enjoyed Dr. Thorne by Trollope but I was disappointed by another one of his books so I gave up. I have never tried Thackarey but I will now that you mentioned it. Usually I don’t trust my reading time to romance novels written by men but I will say that Julian Fellowes is really good and I deeply enjoyed Bellgravia as read by Juliet Stevenson.
I love audio books, and as a scavenger I take full advantage of my library membership: thousands of free books and free audio books. I especially enjoy audio books if they are well read (with an English accent of course!) I listen while I wash dishes, cook, clean and while I take my daily 3 mile walk.
Here are two recent favorites but if you like these I have more to recommend:
1) If you love “Jane Eyre” as much as I do, you will love “Mr. Rochester” by Sarah Shoemaker. It will not disappoint. I promise. The audio book is fantastic. I wrote to the author and she was really happy to hear how much I loved her work.
2) “Mr. Dickens and His Carol” by Samantha Silva. A masterpiece! Brilliantly written and brilliantly read.
If you know of any other books like these, I am always interested to know about them.
Parking is usually ok as they are in private high end neighborhoods and I go on Friday or late Sunday. But the prices! Bloomingdales!
Congratulations on the new building!!! How exciting. I vote for a thrift store with a coffee shop but I imagine you have better ideas.
Auctions stress me out! Goes so fast and I hardly know what I am bidding on. But it has been a while so I might try it again now that I am more experienced.
Estate sales are very expensive in Los Angeles but as you all said, go at the end and see what is left. Usually not that much but I have found some good deals. And as was said above, family run estate sales (two thumbs up) absolutely!!!!
I like the easy pace of yard sales. If I can pick up 10 items in a half day of shopping that I have confidence in and got a good deal on, I feel it was a good day. I don’t have to buy everything, just enough to get some listings up and still have time to work on my death piles. If I hit the mother load in a yard sale, I count my blessing and pull out all stops.
I had a Porsche item removed last month but it was because I put the dealership name that was also part of the logos. I do have two more Porsche shirts listed so we will shall see!

It sold in 2016 for $256, 2010 for 229.50, 2009 for 184.50. In 2015 it also sold in a lot with other pieces for 139.00.
One piece that was same designer but not like mine sold for $475.00 in 2017. And a bracelet that was matching to my necklace sold for $74.75

07/09/2018 at 8:06 pm in reply to: Vintage Ricarde of Hollywood Necklace: No sold comps? Prices all over the place. #44970It was gifted to us by a family friend who is very close to my mom. She has no patience for Ebay and wanted to off load a bunch of stuff. This happens from time to time and we are always grateful when it does.
So crazy, T-Satt. It’s like prank calling on Ebay. I don’t understand the point.
I recently had a buyer bid on an item, did not pay, sent invoice and emails and nothing. I opened unpaid item case, close it for nonpayment, relisted the item and boom! Same buyer bid again! I thought perhaps the fist time they just goofed and did in fact want to purchase the item, but here we are again with an unpaid item case open. I have blocked the buyer.
Thank you ChristineR that helps a lot. This give me a starting point of reference and I can go on from here as you suggested. So often I come upon huge lots of books (just this weekend I saw three dumpsters full while looking for shipping boxes — no joke, boxes and boxes of books!) but it can be overwhelming.
07/09/2018 at 10:21 am in reply to: Jay, you are right! 500 listings is good — 1000 is even better! #44851Thank you! It does feel like there should be some kind of merit badge for getting to 1,000.
