And, Central NJ is not a myth!!! (it’s one of those funny arguments in NJ along with whether you call a particular sandwich pork roll or Taylor ham. I don’t eat pork, so I really don’t take sides there. I think it is another North/South Jersey thing.)
@Craig-Rex – This was my neighbor who downsized and bought a smaller house in an active adult community. I have new neighbors now, who are pretty awesome.
The story he told me about many of his older books was from when he was growing up in South Amboy. There was a used book store across from his house that was going out of business. His parents ended up buying lots of books from there as the prices went down. I believe that this was one of them. He is now in his late 70s, and he had held onto them for long enough.
@craig-rex – I assume there is near hysteria in your area over the game this past weekend! I went to college up in Hoboken, where it was definitely Giants territory. However, after working in the East Windsor and then Newtown, PA, I definitely felt I was hanging with mostly Eagles fans. Here in Central Jersey, I live in a in between area, but I’m sure everyone is going to be routing for Philly in two weeks!
Having only sold 8 items last week, I don’t have much to discuss. The only reason I mention this mug (apart from needing something to talk about) is that it has been in my inventory since I started selling on eBay in 2016. I paid $1, and, even now, I thought it would sell for more than the $6.76 offer. It’s vintage and kinda cute, but I guess not that cute?

This antique book was a commission for my neighbor. From my research, the author was an orthodox Jew who converted to Christianity. However, to make a living, he translated religious text to Yiddish, since that is what he knew and he had to make a salary. The soft bound book was not in great condition, but it is pretty rare. It sold for $36.

I’m not listing anything right now because I’m trying to set up for a MaxSold auction. My family wants me to make room in the basement for a workout area. In addition, my career job is supposed to get busier in the future, so I’m looking to have a smaller inventory. I’ll need to be more selective about what I list.
Problem is … the same family that wants space in the basement also got me hooked on a TV show called Severance. We binged watched the first season last week, which meant that I didn’t have much time for creating auction lots in the evening. We finally caught up on Thursday and watched the last episode on Friday. BTW, it is a really excellent show, but you have to have Apple music/TV.
During the weekend, I was able to list, and I’m up to 30 so far. I’d like to have about 100 in the end, so I will probably be listing through the end of February and having the auction in March. I’m starting to pull some stuff from my inventory, so my eBay listings have started to decrease faster than what I sold for the week.
I had another slow week, but a better average price than the previous week.

I listed zero, and zero it will be for several weeks.
I did start creating listings for my online auction, but none of them are live yet. I will create very few eBay listings, if any, until the auction is over. I wanted to hold the auction in February, but I think it probably will be pushed to March at the rate I am going.
The subject of a past podcast or forum post was old calendars. Occasionally, you run into an old one that was never written in or at least is in good condition. If you google “calendar repeat calculator”, you can find out when it will repeat in the future. This 1953 calendar will repeat in 2026. It sold for $10, but I don’t think I paid anything for it. It really wasn’t that interesting, so I’m just glad it sold.

This cool, vintage suitcase sold for $34 on commission. It is damaged, but not too badly. It was in my neighbor’s attic holding several Lionel trains and accessories that have been selling well.
A downsizing/moving neighbor was getting rid of this bread machine early last year. As with all bread machines I sell, I first test them by making bread and show it in the photos (but not included in the sale LOL). My family appreciates these listings. Bread machines sell relatively well; this one was posted in July. I’m making sour dough these days, so I’m not sure I’ll want to test another one in the future.

This was another moving neighbor’s discard from last year. I was thinking to add it to my auction since shipping it would be a bear. Well, I had to deal with that bear because it sold on offer at $25. I did get feedback that it arrived safely in spite of a FedEx guy throwing the box on her porch!

Geeze, I’ve had many neighbors move in the past year. This typewriter had belonged to yet another neighbor; this is the one I’ve been selling for at commission. The typewriter is in great condition but will need a tune up to work properly. Sold for $93.

I had a buyer in Texas who couldn’t figure out how to send me photos of a plate (1 of 3 I sold him) that broke in transit, and I thought maybe it was a scam since he asked for an email address. However, he finally figured it out, and I refunded him 1/3 of the purchase price. Then, he offered $20 for the matching salad plates. I packed them VERY carefully. They have a very cute cowboy pattern, and I paid just a few dollars for the whole set. I have maybe half the set left; they are going pretty quickly.
No listings for me. The deal is I am now listing items for my auction except that no listing is actually going on. That’s got to change and it’s got to change soon.
I offer my shipping discounts to the buyer, so I’m not making much and I don’t bother calculating that number. However, I usually overestimate the weight and size of the package, so I do make some money there, but I’m sure it all goes to eBay in the end.
@Antique-Frog – We’ve had the ability to add photos for a while. Maybe that is a function that just made it to the UK?
Of course, you are correct, and he did manage to send me the photos, and I refunded a third of the price (there were three plates total). He also asked me if I would take a lower price for the salad plates, and I said I would. So, he was happy as a buyer. With all the craziness in the world, I think I was a bit to quick to assume it might be a scam.

I listed six items and five of them were DPs.
Looking through the challenge, I think I’m 10 in the hole now. That isn’t going to change because I need to start listing for my auction that I would like to run next month.
@Amatino – Are you going to start a new post for 2025?My big sale of the week was a set of crystal decanters for $110. This is a commission sale for my neighbor (who has moved). The buyer asked me to print out a note for the recipient welcoming them back to town. Sweet!

I sold this accordion style sewing or jewelry box for $30. This was part of a MaxSold auction where I bought everything in a bookshelf for a $1 min bid. Only a few books were good for listing, but I bought it for the box, which ended up being full of jewelry including a few gold pieces. Those were sold separately.

I purchased a set of a very cute cowboy dish set for a few dollars. I think I’ve already posted one sale, but I’m continuing to sell these off in pieces. These three dinner plates sold for $28.
