Did we totally space on posting our numbers this week? I have my excuse of being focused on the auction which, coincidentally, just ended. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad, but I’m getting lots of stuff out of the house.
I’m not selling much these days, so I don’t have much to talk about. Just to post a couple things, here’s a cool hanging piece, probably nice in an enclosed porch, that I paid a dollar or two and sold for $28.

My week of sales was also dismal, but my auction will be ending on Thursday. That will make next week’s numbers easier to talk to. I did some consolidation around the basement, and we were able to move all the workout equipment down there. Now I need to move things around so that we can get everything efficiently set up.

Returns: 0I read an article a number of years ago about how this can happen. At one time, Amazon got rung out in the media because of how many sellers were selling fakes or copies of another company’s products. Amazon toughened up its rules, but then sellers were taking advantage of the process to get rid of their competition. Amazon is very hard to contact especially wrt the seller help. People were pushed off Amazon with no way to fight it.
I wasn’t sure if this sort of thing was still happening but having someone in your corner is definitely a huge help. I’m glad you were able to get out of it quickly.
Having several streams for business has definitely been a big topic here over the years. After all, Jay and Ryanne have grown several lines of business, and they have been very successful at it. Since I have a part time career job, I haven’t bothered trying out different avenues other than adding in Etsy.
I did watch your You Tube videos when you posted them (a year or two ago), and they were really nicely done. I’m sure you’ll do well in building that brand for yourself!
I just talked to my friend, and she said that she always had the book at the same price, so I misremembered. Maybe these eBay sellers aren’t drop shippers but instead have access to Amazon’s bulk distribution centers?
There have been a number of posts about Crazy Lamp Lady on this forum over the years. I did watch a few videos in the past to see what it was all about. She obviously has the personality and knowledge that brings in people. They are not just liking her stuff; they are buying into her story and feeling like they are part of it. From the videos I watched (not recent), her stuff was not that high end.
While it’s great what she’s accomplished and how she is making an incredible salary over this, but it definitely takes a certain person. Being mostly an introvert, I’d probably tank. Maybe squeeze out a living where I could eat most days LOL. I don’t know if I could hack it.
I’ve got 104 lots completed for my auction, and that will be it. Last week I was up to 91, so that is 13 completed in the past week. My work now will be to get it all set up with MaxSold.
Glass has to be special to even consider listing. I have my longest listed glass in the auction. If it doesn’t sell, I will give it away. In general, everything I buy here on out needs to be in the $25 and up range. If I buy an auction lot just for a couple of items that are worth more, then everything else needs to be freecycled. No listing stuff just because I think it’s cool!
I hope everyone has a decent enough week. I don’t think I’ll be focusing much on eBay until April sometime. In the meantime, I have the auction, taxes, and organizing the basement.
Another slow week, but I used the time to complete my MaxSold auction. I ended up with 104 lots which is enough for a decent auction. I need to review the lots on the desktop, and then I can set it up to go live.
In unrelated news, a friend of mine self published a book in February. It is available for purchase on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. She texted me asking about how her book ended up on eBay, so I took a look. It seems to me that a few drop shippers listed the book and added a few dollars onto the price. Thing is, she raised the price from what she originally listed it at once she got some reviews in. So, the jokes on these drop shippers who will probably have to pay once eBay’s fees come into play.
If she ends up with excess stock after the few events she is running, I can sell the book on eBay and beat the price from the other sellers. Perhaps I can sell them signed. I wouldn’t ask for my normal 50% commission since she is a close friend.

@IndySales – I will be at my current address for 20 years this coming July, so I am no help. From recent activity on this forum, I’m thinking you might not be able to get much information on that topic here. I would try calling or chatting with an eBay rep to see what they say. Otherwise, keep on googling other sites or forums.
Also, I’ve been finding a number of items that I had in my inventory that were not listed. I’m sure some were user error, but some were definitely dropped by eBay. For the most part, I’m choosing to put them in my auction and not relist, but I do have a few I will get back up there.
@Craig-Rex – I also had a slow week. The big sales of the previous two weeks are gone, and I’m left with 6 measly sales with an average price of about $20.
My best sale was a vintage wood folding hanger made by Union for $30. It is the second one I sold, but the interesting thing is the buyer, Shop Airlines. I’ve sold maybe half a dozen items to them over the 9-ish years I’ve been an eBay seller. They sell Americana to Japanese customers via their website, but I think they started selling their wares on airplanes (hence their name).

My second biggest sale was a sealed bar of Chanel soap on commission.
I’m at 91 lots in my auction, so I’m very close to my 100 lot goal. I also want to get the whole auction completed by the March 22 weekend, so I’ll need to finish up in a few days so that I get get everything reviewed and started next week.
Y’all are dealing with illnesses, kids, eBay organization, and life. It’s a crazy way of living, but it can be fun. I’m grateful for this little slice of the internet where we can inspire each other and talk out our challenges. I’m hoping everyone has a great week listing, organizing, or planning for the next big challenge.
