Absolutely. As far as loans go, it’s much better than most types of loans out there.
Yes, I remember hearing that you had to pay it back if you left the company. This included if you were laid off, which would kinda add insult to injury.
In a way, eBay is our marketing company. They do the advertising, SEO, etc, and their website and name brings in the buyers that may want to buy our stuff. That said, eBay is huge, and you have competition within eBay to sell your products.
You can improve your chances of selling something by doing your own marketing on top of eBay’s, making better listings, or just listing more items. I actually have a Facebook account for my business, but I hardly use it. I keep getting messages to pay for Facebook adds, but my focus has been to just list more.
I know that I could have taken a loan out on the 401k when I was working at the company, but I’m not sure that I can do it now. My assumption is that, if you are no longer working at that company, you cannot take a loan out against it where you pay yourself back. Of course, that is an assumption, and I haven’t really looked into it.
As far as rolling a 401k over, you could just roll it into a mutual fund. My 401k is just held in different mutual funds plus company stock, and, if I rolled it over to an IRA, I would pick a mutual fund company and spread it over different funds. Or, like Jay said, just roll it into Vanguard index fund. You aren’t forced to roll over a 401k into a brokerage account where you pick your own stocks.
About 15 years ago, my husband and I worked with a lawyer to do our wills, set up a trust, etc. He urged me to transfer my 401k from my previous employer to an IRA. The reasons he gave me were that I would have more control over the money and that laws make 401k money more difficult (or maybe just more complicated) to get to should I pass away first.
I have been lazy and still have my 401k with the old employer, so I probably shouldn’t be giving financial advice :).
I saw that sale come up! How awesome! By the way, your numbers for this podcast show your highest sale as the $150 ceramic flower from last week.
My numbers:
Week of Aug 18 – 24
* Total Items in Store: 1441 eBay, 3 Etsy
* Items Sold: 12
* Cost of Items Sold: $3.10 + $0 Commission
* Total Sales: $194.92
* Highest Price Sold: $34 Vintage Oppenheim menorah
* Average Price Sold: $16.24
* Returns: 0
* Money Spent on New Inventory This Week: $49.76
* Number of items listed this week: 13I was chugging along, doing OK, when sales just shut down later in the week. I had no sales on Friday and Sunday and only one on Saturday. Pretty rough.
My neighbor had an auction through MaxSold. I bid and won a few things. Shortest pickup drive ever!!
I don’t really know the answer to that question, and I’m not sure where to get that information. However, from what I’ve read on this forum and elsewhere, I can suggest a few possibilities:
People who used to wear or use an item and have nostalgia. Or, someone who wore out or broke an item and wants that exact replacement.
Younger people who are interested in retro style and like the older stuff.
People who want bargains and don’t care that something is old or out of fashion.
People want to buy certain styles that come back into fashion like Mid-century modern. When bell-bottom jeans came back in style about a decade or so ago, I’m sure that many people bought the original ones.
TV, play, or movie sets that want authentic period pieces.
Designers that are studying older designs as inspiration for new ones. Jay & Ryanne have a repeat customer who purchases older shoes for that purpose.
This has never happened to me, but I recall hearing someone else talking about it on the forum. Perhaps you could use the search function to try and find it.
I’m curious as to whether the item number changed between these listings. Are you able to compare numbers on the sold one, the second sold one, and the active one you ended? If the numbers match, then I would double-check the quantity and make sure you didn’t put a number larger than one in there.
If they don’t match, then eBay is creating new listings when the old one sells. Now that would be a crazy glitch!
In the mist of last minute purchases and my daughter’s move to college on Thursday, I managed to get in 13 listings, which was about what I expected.
That’s a small casserole or oval serving platter.
I have no idea on the design.
MyCottage – Did you also get this email (as described in the thread), or are you just following the discussion?
The reason I ask is that the email from the thread had the following wording “Based on our review of your account, the features and tools you use on eBay are fully compatible with managed payments.”.
So, I have the Global Shipping Program option on almost all my listings. The GSP is NOT compatible with Managed Payments right now, so I shouldn’t get that email until it is.
Personally, I don’t mind MPs as long as I have all the benefits (like GSP) that I have now. The rest should be improvements from just PayPal. I haven’t read anything about fee increases or higher costs. The big difference will be the payments every day into a checking or savings account.
Interesting to see how fast that Marantz turntable is selling.
About a month ago, I sold a damaged oil painting of a race horse. I had actually bought two paintings at that time. This is the other one, which is of a pair of ducks. Paid $5.75 and sold for best offer of $74.65 (buyer wanted the price with shipping to add up to an even number).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183846039092During our vacation to Florida last month, I did do a little of sourcing even though I picked up a large amount of free stuff. This traveling bar set is the more modern version of the Trav-L Bars from the 60s. I paid about $6.50, and it sold for $47.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183896552222No one wanted a lot in a recent auction, so they reduced the price to $2, and I bought it. A buyer at the auction offered me $2 for one of the books, which, of course, I accepted. This music CD set sold for $30. I’ve got several more listed.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183916299123When I was going through my parents’ friends freebee stuff, I found what I thought were a few matching clear glass vases, and I was going to donate them. My mom asked about what I was rejecting, and we realized that they were actually a set of milk shake glasses. They sold to someone in the UK for $39. Yay for my mom!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183913025629From a bear collection auction lot earlier this year, I bought this really small 4″ teddy bear made in Germany for pennies. It sold for $22.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/183734943363Vero (and Velcro) has been discussed a number of times on the forum. I agree that it is kind of unfair. eBay does have a list of companies that have requested that their trademark name not be used, but the removal of listings is somewhat arbitrary. Velcro is rather well known, but others not so much.
Here are two recent discussions on the forum:
You can also use the forum search to find other threads.
Somewhere on YouTube is a song video that Velcro put together to explain their reasons for protecting their trademark so vigorously. It’s pretty funny if you can find it.
Oh my, Amatino. That doesn’t look good. I’ll try to explain my exercises, but my inner lawyer is going to pipe up. You better talk to your doctor or get a better chiropractor to make sure that the exercises are OK for your condition. Then again, you belly dance and do all sorts of active stuff, and these exercises are just stretches, so maybe you know what is OK.
And, yeh, I hate when people you count on decide to retire or do a different track. My primary physician decided to become a MDVIP provider. This is where you get extra attention and treatment to stay in the practice, but you have to pay almost $2000 a year. Um, no?
I do all my exercises for a 10 count. I use 1 Mississippi 2 Mississippi etc to get a good count. (I wonder what they do in other countries? I guess they can say 1 one thousand 2 one thousand, etc.)
The first thing I do is lie on my back and bring in one knee to the chest and hold for a 10 count. Then I do the same for the other knee. Then I do it for both. Then a pelvic tilt.
Now I have to roll over to my stomach. Some mornings this is difficult to do :).
I do the cat and camel. This is sitting on your knees and hands and bringing your back into a curved position up for the 10-count and then down for 10.
My favorite stretch is sort of a side plank. I’ve got my knees on the floor at one end and my elbows out, hands on head, on the other. I put one elbow on the floor and the other straight up in the air. I hold the position on the left and then on the right, each for the 10 count.
Then I stand up and do a doorway stretch. You put both arms out along the door and move into the next room until you get a nice stretch for a 10 count.
The last exercise is in a sitting position. This is just gently pushing your head to the right shoulder and then the left, each for the 10 count.
Looking online, I don’t see a stretching routine exactly what I do, so I think that there are different ways to keep your back limber and strong. This is just what my chiropractor gave me.
I think the only issue would be if you paid postage for one zone, but then shipped them from a different zone. Especially if the cost to ship would be more expensive. Otherwise, I don’t think it is an issue.
You shouldn’t change your return address because then the buyer might return it to your work, and I don’t think that would be a good idea.
