I sold an item that had smart post on it last week. Buyer paid $10 something. Actual rate was $15 something with a discount that brought it down to about $11. I switched over to priority and paid about $11.
Yet another reason why Smart post is crap. I couldn’t even be sure that is what they would actually charge me at the end of the month. They like to slip in extra amounts after the fact.
When I come across these dodged bullets now, I actually send them a message stating that their track history of unfair feedback is why I am not accepting their offer. These folks need to be aware that what they are doing has consequences and that sellers can (and do) check this stuff.
So on the 13th, I was feeling particularly overwhelmed with my store and slow sales. I started promoted listings for ALL of my items set to auto adjust to whatever the going rate was. It was quite alarming to see that I’d be paying 11% for many items, but whatever – this is an experiment.
I checked just now and since the 13th through yesterday I’ve sold 11 items through promoted listings for $427 and paying $31 in promoted listing fees. Within hours of starting the promotion I sold an $80 shirt BIN through promoted listings that I had never had a single offer on in over a year.
So I guess I can consider promoted listings a success!
Oh wow, 12 lamps! I like it! I’m sensing an upgrade coming soon.
I have a mannequin…but its only a small female torso mannequin. My main photo is on the female mannequin turned around backwards. It works decently. This weekend I decided I need to stop being cheap and just invest in a nice male torso mannequin. Until then, the female does a decent job. Can’t shoot from the back though, which is why only my opening shot is on the mannequin.
I’m growing increasingly unhappy with the photos I am getting out of my iphone 7. I have 4 75W LED daylight bulbs in a ceiling fan overhead and my actual studio setup is two side shooting lights and one overhead – all 3 are 120W equivalent daylight photography lamps. The iphone struggles with colors – darker colors and specifically blues. I also get that hazy look when I have darker items with any kind of sheen to them.
I’ve never used the regional rate boxes. Which “A” box are you using, A1 or A2?
01/22/2018 at 11:53 am in reply to: first class international ship no longer available for items except for paper #31004Whoah this is a really big deal. I wonder how this will even affect GSP? I have to assume ebay was using 1st class international for tons of items.
So I started down the suits rabbit hole this weekend. Pretty fun once I started. Some of the suits I’ve done so far were duds. One was a button donor as the jacket and pants had many small moth holes. I was too blinded by the tag when I bought it to thoroughly examine. So I cut off all the buttons and trashed it. Next!
Another suit was missing a closure button. Again I was blinded by $$$ signs and didn’t inspect well enough. I ended up listing it anyways at a reduced price. Replacing all the buttons would take way too much time for the sales price.
It has been interesting to learn how to measure the tailoring spare material and such. I don’t know if any of these will even sell, but I’ve already got my money’s worth in knowledge.
Here’s the first few I’ve listed. Feel free to critique.

Average sales price $32.22Bad weather and sick people in the house stalled out most of my week again. Weather is better this week, and I’m tackling listing “pain in the butt” items in coats and suits. I’m feeling very overwhelmed with how much backlog of unlisted inventory I have. I think I could live with it better if things were more organized. I’ll try to get back on organizing my ebay garage space this week to ease my mind.
Have a great week everyone.
Video game buyers are the worst at this.
I had one once low ball me twice and add this note on the 2nd:
“I can buy this all day for $10 at Walmart”I replied:
“Wow! That is a great deal. Sounds like you need to make a Walmart run.”Then they cussed me out and moved on. Lol.
Lol, that one was me too!
My gut reaction is to tell people like this that if that is all they can afford they should probably save the money to pay their rent or something. Same for the folks who delay payment until payday. If you have to wait for payday for a frivolous thing on ebay then you probably shouldn’t be shopping on ebay!
Anybody else have some good tongue in cheek responses to “trouble buyers”?
It’s only $50 for non Top Rated Seller.

Highest price sold: $80 Paintball jerseyWhat a dud week compared to last week. Sickness is running through my house and the weather is horrible. I haven’t gotten the flu from them yet, but its only a matter of time. Nothing much of anything is getting done around here except the bare essentials of feeding people and keeping a minimum of clean clothes/dishes on hand.
I did list half of my coats death pile which was good. I hope to finish the second half this week unless I come down with flu, which is seeming to be inevitable as much as I’ve been exposed.
We all occasionally get the impatient buyer that expects next minute responses, shipping, feedback, etc.
I advise in cases like these you politely respond something along the lines of
“Yes I see that the package has been delivered. I am currently not a home, but I will inspect the item and issue your refund at the next available opportunity. Thanks!”I find that a little politeness in a prompt response even when no giving the impatient buyer what they want usually works. I have 3 business day handling so I get the impatient shipping question occasionally when a weekend falls in my handling time. They just don’t want to feel ignored.
