This auto calculating thing can really screw things up when you have flat rate shipping. I have some candles that I ship in a box put inside a padded flat rate envelope because the candles are small but heavy. I had a customer buy 2, and ebay only charges them the single flat rate shipping charge of $7.20. 2 candles weighed over 5 lb and the buyer was cross country. I guess I can thank my lucky stars that the person didn’t buy 4!
I’ve noticed in paypal a lot of people have their portrait associated with their paypal account. If you scroll through your payments in the paypal app you’ll see it. I don’t google people but I do find it kinda cool to see the faces of the folks that buy from me occasionally.
I will say I watch 10konthebay occasionally. Now that he has some experience under his belt and has entered reality (lol), there is some good information there on constantly improving and increasing efficiency. They keep a pretty positive vibe there on helping each other improve.
I’ve tried a few and they are all either garbage or inconsistent at posting. I have no desire to watch youtube vids as my podcasting is limited to work commute time and my daily 15 minute walks. Scavengerlife is the only reselling podcast I currently listen to. It is refreshing to listen to real people in Jay and Ryanne who aren’t blowing hot air and/or trying to get me to buy something.
01/31/2018 at 8:41 am in reply to: Got a phone call from a customer – and fascinating panicky offer behavior! #31684Oh man, super annoying! When I’m logged on ebay I’m working. The last thing I want is to get interrupted by people wanting to chat about an item. Messages all the way.
Yeah I picked one up at Walmart after I got that negative. I generally don’t buy pilled items unless they are highly sought after vintage collector shirts. This shirt was part of my recent “shop the 99 cent tags” scavenging mission.
Haggling is a regional and cultural thing. Many folks simply don’t know to haggle. Many folks take it as a sense of pride to pay full price. Many folks use BIN when the listing only has hours or minutes left because they are not aware it will simply relist.
Bottom line, there are many reasons why items sell BIN with best offer on. But as you now know, having best offer definitely does more good than harm.
Not to mention the risk of damage from the return. If it breaks, he gets ZERO monies back.
Any time I “upgrade” the buyer, I send them a message.
Something like
“Hi, I see that you chose USPS ground shipping. I shipped this item Fed Ex Smart post because it will arrive 2 days sooner than USPS parcel for the same cost. Have a great day!”Or in the case of changing to from parcel to priority to use free shipping supplies when the priority cost is the same with discount:
“Hi, just wanted to let you know I upgraded your package to priority mail at no additional cost. Have a great day!I would never trust Smart Post to hold to that 2-7 day time going cross country. I’ll upgrade smart post to parcel (parcel is the superior service IMO), but not the other way around.
One last note: no way that a pair of size 13 mens shoes fit in a medium flat rate.
I have no returns on all of my items. I still always honor return requests though. If a buyer asks about returns I tell them I accept returns.
I’ve only had one INAD return that I truly feel was abuse of the system. I may have another this week if the item actually gets returned. Generally buyers who want a return put in the request for the real reason and they don’t complain about return shipping or not getting original shipping back.
My assumption is that the fact they bought the item knowing there wasn’t refunds set the bar low enough that they are happy to get a refund at all.Items in Store 978
Items Sold 23
Total Sales $709.00
COGS $78.20
Total Profit $630.80
Average profit $27.43
Average sales price $30.83
Highest price Sale: $110 Dr Comfort Women’s shoesMy numbers are a little skewed. A $20 sale is going to end up an unpaid item and I got a return request for a pair of $90 shoes. I’m trying not to let that one bother me but I suspect they are abusing the item not as described return system. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. They haven’t shipped them yet.
Good news for the week: I went a whole week without a late shipment. Yay! The late shipment rate metric has killed me. Sometimes I’ll get everything printed and ready to go to the post office within my handling time, but I get held up at work and can’t get it to the PO until the next morning. I have 5.5% late shipment rate because of it. I’m making a concentrated effort to get that back down and get back to TRS.
The urge to get a helper is becoming quite strong. The time I have to list is just becoming less and less. This weekend I had to replace a toilet in the house and that turned into a bigger project than planned. Listing time went bye bye. If I had someone to do basic clothes and/or shoes that would be a HUGE help.
Having said all that, I just need to get through the next 6 weeks with decent progress. Daylight Saving Time is just around the corner in early March. Once I get that hour of daylight back in the evening my productivity goes through the roof on all fronts. I really do dislike winter. All I want to do is eat and sit on the couch in the winter. BOOO Winter!
Have a great week everyone.
I also know I’ve shipped to countries GSP that aren’t on that short list. Many sales to Australia and Japan.
I got a neutral that said “fine put pilled more than I wanted”. It was a sweater that was clearly pilled in the photos. I was gonna message the buyer to work it out, but then I realized it was an international sale. Yep, I’ll take my neutral. Lol!
I did respond to the neutral by saying this:
“Buyer did not contact me before leaving feedback. I strive for 100% customer Satisfaction.”I’ve never heard of ebay sending a message regarding overcharging on shipping. Did they force you to refund him? How exactly does this even work. Ebay gets their fees on shipping so I don’t see why they would even care.
Absolutely. Our Gucci Goodwill is pretty darn good at finding valuable stuff and pricing accordingly. They are the hub store that all other stores send stuff to sort and price.
That being said, I’m still WAAAY better than them. They can pluck the low hanging fruit but they miss tons of very valuable stuff.
They also overprice for this area regularly, so high price items make it to 50% off tag and even the 99 cent clearance tags pretty regularly. We go every Sunday now when they switch the tags and I do very well on the 99 cent tag sale.
