Lilly, Everyone has a different system/schedule. You have to experiment to see what works for you. If you aren’t happy do something differently. Sounds like you need to stop going out on scavenging trips so often. Try to visit more places the same day and only go out 1-2X per week. I’m a big believer in taking a sabbath day’s rest each week with no work whatsoever–just R&R. It is healthy on so many levels and gives you energy and renewal. The more you do the more you need it. You will get more done on the other 6 days. Also try to be organized even if you have to take off a week to do it. Clutter is exhausting. Get some “zen” in your home 🙂 Peace comes from within. Start there. Do less accomplish more.
Ha. We could post photos of junk we re-donated. Tons o’junk.
That’s an awesome motivator! About the same time our subdivision of 1000 homes has its annual garage sale. You’re on!
Good idea! Sadly, Savers is just up the street from my nearest Fedex–auch a temptation. ?
Okay, I confess I gell off the wagon once last week. Spent $26 at Savers. My car dragged me there for going by too close. Some of what I bought was for me though. But I am checking myself back into Scavenger’s Anonymous Rehab. Meanwhile today I took photos, then spent hours identifying flatware patterns–ugh. That’s one reason I got a deathpile of flatware–it takes forever to identify and clean up. Especially the silver. But the last batch I did was well worth it! Back on the wagon!!!
01/08/2017 at 8:33 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 290: Experimenting with your eBay Store #9755Retro, we love Amazon Prime for all the reasons you mention. I tnink inthe future we will all buy everything online, sad as that sounds. You save time, gas, and searching from store to store. There is scarcely anything you can’t find on Amazon. We get boxes delivered from there several times a week. (They are great for ebay.) when I’m in a store and can’t find what I want I pull out my phone, find it on Amazon, and order it right there. It arrives the next day. Odd sized battery or light bulb burns out–order it on Amazon. Want to watch a movie at home for free–watch it on Amazon. I don’t even want to go to theatres anymore. Why put up with the hassle of driving there, putting up with inconsiderate strangers all over the place while at home we are totally comfortable, safe, unhassled, and the popcorn is free. We have friends over for dinner and a movie cheaper rhan if the two of us went to the movie alone. As soon as they get the technology perfected so that you can accurately measure yourself from home there will be no need to try on clothes or shoes at the store. And I agree, most items are cheaper with Amazon Prime than anywhere else–it’s volume selling that makes it work.
Mike, you can still cancel your order if it hasn’t been shipped.
01/07/2017 at 2:23 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 290: Experimenting with your eBay Store #9727For me it is too complicated to pre-estmate how much to add on for “free” shipping. If it is able to go first class Or can go flat rate that can work. But even adding calculated shipping is risky unless you actually stop to pack the item before listing. For now I just make everything first class or Economy Shipping and charge a ballpark mid range shpg cost. If the cost is less than I charged it goes fedex smartpost instead of usps prority.
Mike, I did the same thing once and they were bery helpful. I can’t remember how we fixed it, but I did get credited somehow. Do contact the supply company.
Yes, they work perfectly for that! I just sold a hat a minute ago and that’s how I will ship it.
Flim you continue to amaze me with your success. Here’s to another great year!
John, your numbers are amazing. I can’t imagine what you are selling, but it is obviously all good! I do wonder how you could spend so much on shipping supplies. Be sure to put the word out to all your friends that you need boxes, etc. walk the neighborhood streets the night before trash pickup and bring home castoffs. Dumpster dive for bubble wrap.
Liz, what a horrific experience–so sorry that happened to you. I know from experience that things like that can leave you shaken for quite a while (like when our cab was t-boned in Puerto Rico as we were heading to the airport and we wound up in the E.R. Instead of flying home. Couldn’t walk for a month. Never returning to P.R.!)
I admired your fabric sales and can’t wait to learn some tips from you! Glad younare back in the game!
I still can’t part with my stethoscope. It was a high quality one I bought when I worked in the ICU. I’m not normally sentimental, but some things are harder to part with than others. I hung onto my textbooks far too long. Good for you on your new transition. It is much more fun!
How many old listings do you have that you put Priority Mail because at the time First Class did not go up to 16 oz? Do you still mail those Priority? Really? If so, why? As I pointed out, they both arrive within 3 days, according to the USPS. So do you pay the PO extra for no reason? The customer paid to recive the item within a certain amount of time, and they are still getting it within that time. To insist on a refund, (and who knows in what tone?) without considering the shipping materials or the fact that the item was reduced to $4 as a courtesy, seems stingy at best. Then to give a neg FB makes it even worse. If any of us were honest we would have to confess to being delighted when our shipping costs were less than what we charged. But how many times have you sent a refund to each customer? I consider other sellers to he part of the big Scavenger family, and always err on the side of treating the accordingly.
