06/17/2020 at 10:42 am in reply to: The full 52-page FBI criminal complaint charging former eBay employees #78513
The former CEO is a snake and sounds very much like Gavin Belson straight out of Silicon Valley tv series. The terrorism aside – the amount of money they spent to harass this couple: air fare, stays at the Ritz, new computers in order to hide their activity, one $750 meal while planning their next attack, etc. The complaint also mentions a vanity project of the CEO – building an exact replica of a certain NYC bar on the eBay campus at the time the company was laying off workers. And at the end of it all, after the Board was aware of what transpired they let him go with a $57 million golden parachute. Unbelievable.
06/16/2020 at 9:48 am in reply to: ebay execs accused of cyberstalking the Steiners (ecommercebytes owners) #78486Allegedly the former CEO is reported to have texted, “Take her down” in response to an article written by the blogger. As I’m sure he can afford the best lawyers, he’ll probably emerge relatively scot-free with just some reputational damage. That a CEO of a billion dollar company would even bother caring about one blogger to this extent is nuts. It reminds me of the HBO series Succession or Billions.

That is psychotic behavior! Each of them could be sentenced to 10 years if convicted. I’ve worked in some rather dysfunctional places before but nothing that would rise to this level of insanity. The fact that it wasn’t one guy with a screw loose but rather a group of high level executives who all went along with this is blowing my mind! The victims will rightly get a big settlement out of this I’m sure.
Amatino – I sure hope you’re feeling much better this week!
10 for me this week. It’s been a hair pulling stressful week. Hope things calm down within a week or so.
WTF with Marc Maron – he was one of the 1st to podcast. He used to only interview comedians and discuss the history of comedy but now anyone who is any one, is on his podcast. The F bomb is dropped a lot in the intro in case that bothers you.
Swindled – each episode covers a major scandal. The guy is very monotone but I think that’s on purpose and you get used to it.
Truth and Lies: Jeffrey Epstein – infuriating but interesting. I think there are 9 or so episodes
Joe Exotic: Tiger King (on Wonderly) – contains a lot of info that wasn’t in the Netflix series. These guys are even worse than how they were portrayed by Netflix.
S-town: just a bit of a bizarre story about some guys in a small town.
37 for me. This week I started posting some items to Poshmark. It’s so much simpler and faster than listing on eBay. But alas, my heart belongs to Ebay so a majority of my time will be spent there.
I second Jay’s recommendation on the Gladiator shelves. I use them in my basement. There’s no way those things are ever falling over, very sturdy. I use the black and yellow plastic tubs that are now being sold at every hardware store. Each shelf will hold two 27-gal tubs and one 17-gal tub. Note that the black tubs (with the yellow lids) are made by several different brands. If you use them, try to stick with the same brand because each brand makes their tub just different enough that it can screw up your fit on the shelves if you mix them. The tubs go on sale once in awhile so keep your eyes peeled.
In the main level of my house I have a smaller shelving system using these: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Style-Selections-18-in-D-x-47-7-in-W-x-72-in-H-5-Tier-Steel-Freestanding-Shelving-Unit/999990408. Each shelf will fit 3 bankers boxes with a little room to spare.
May was my most profitable month since May 2017. May has always been one of my most profitable months.
I’m trying something new this month – I bought a box from a liquidation company. I’ve never been able to get the numbers to work until this particular offering. I was planning to triple my investment but now that I’m listing, I think I’ll end up only doubling it. But it hasn’t been much work – only around 25 multi-quant listings for 180 items total and all are easy to ship. But now the question is, how long will it take for the items to sell and for me to get back my initial investment.
Through this process I’ve have discovered ebay’s variable listings have gotten very glitchy since I last used it probably a year ago. I’ve been getting error messages when I try to use size as a variable in certain categories of clothing. Sometimes when I’m able to get the size variable to work, I’m then required to enter one size in the non-variable section of the listing, which negates the entire purpose of the variable to begin with. Frustrating but all it means is I have to have a separate listing for each size now rather than one listing with size as a variable.
Amatino – Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I always felt like the 3rd day after any surgery, was always the worst, so hopefully by now you are on the upswing!
28 items for me this week.
I think I found it a similar one. Just says Thailand Siam Souvenir Spoon Hindu God
https://silverfalconantiques.ecrater.com/p/3815548/thailand-siam-silver-souvenir-spoonHow many days has it been? I’ve had cases where item was shown as delivered but it doesn’t actually get delivered for another day or two. I think if the mail carrier has their scanner set incorrectly this can happen. When I’ve had this happen in the past I always ask the buyer to wait a day or two after it initially says delivered. If it says delivered, eBay sides with the seller but I’m not sure how Paypal specifically will deal with it.
Looks like some kind of Hindu God…maybe Brahma?
13 listings for me. I took a little break from listing clothes to list hard goods. None of the hard good items I’m finding in my death piles has been very interesting yet except for a victorian picture frame from the 1800s. The photo inside was a tintype photo (printed on little sheets of metal). The one I found isn’t a valuable one but it was an interesting discovery and I learned something new.
I’ve made it through half of my unlisted bins. Each bin has had at least two gems in it, which motivates me to keep working through my back stock so I can find more. The best find: Isaia Napoli Aquaspider Wool Suit. It sold in about a month for $199.99. Also found a used Johnny Was blouse that sold for $59.99, vintage overalls sold for $99.99, Adriana Papel gown sold for $79.99, Eskandar sweater $99.99. There are a few others that I just listed and am waiting for a sale including a Johnny Was dress I’ve listed for $82 and a Skhoop skirt I’ve listed for $89.99. And all this time, the stuff was buried in bins of unlisted inventory.
I also found a stack of narrow pads of paper – the kind you keep as grocery lists. Not worth anything obviously but we had just run out so at least it was a useful find.Scotch packing tape is the only one I’ve been 100% satisfied with. I buy it at Sams but sometimes Staples will have an amazing deal on it so then I’ll stock up. I always check the Staples and Sams flyers waiting for it to be on sale.
