I feel like I spend 80% of my day opening and closing the front door for my 2 cats and 2 dogs. Someone is always either wanting out or in. Drives me crazy!
For those of you anxiously awaiting what the “apology gift” is, I received it today. My original order was for a specific type of wooden domino rack so I was expecting something maybe domino or gaming related. I received……a Glad air freshener that was drop shipped from Wal-Mart. The invoice and return label are from walmart with my name on the invoice. I was racking my brain as to why I was receiving a $2 air freshener from Walmart via Fed Ex. I started to suspect the pet sitter who was at my house last week, was dropping a subtle hint (to be fair, I have 4 indoor pets including an elderly dog with a temperamental bladder so the house probably does smell a bit pet-friendly.) I finally remembered the “apology gift”! I checked the tracking number against ebay and sure enough, the air freshener is from the seller via walmart drop shipping. I assume that he must be selling many items on ebay that are drop shipped from Walmart and that is why he was not able to keep up with the actual inventory of items he lists. Mystery solved. I can say this has been the most peculiar ebay purchase I’ve ever made.

This week has been the week of the low dollar item sales, which has been a reminder that I still need to seek and list the lower value bread and butter items, as they will add up over time.
My thrift find of the week, which I haven’t listed yet is a pair of J. Crew camel or tan colored leather pants. Other pairs in other colors have sold for $100 to $350. The pair I found will be the only one listed of its color so I have high hopes for it. Purchased them at my favorite thrift for $14.
I should note that they sent the refund through Paypal, so Ebay would not know that a cancellation on seller’s part was the reason for the refund. They shipped a “gift” to make it appear to ebay that the sale was not cancelled and that a refund was sent for another reason.
That’s my point, because they shipped “something” and then refunded, they will not get a hit/defect with ebay. If a seller refunds a customer after something is shipped, then it looks to ebay’s system like the seller was taking care of their customer and thus they don’t get a defect. When, actually, they do deserve a defect because they did not have what I ordered.
Unfortunately because seller already shipped something and issued a refund, I can not open a case. I can only leave negative feedback.
01/23/2017 at 8:45 am in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 294: Finding the Valuable Caches and Going All In #10934Traveled to Iowa to visit family last week. Ever since my last trip home when I found a drum at a local thrift for $4 that I flipped within 24 hours for $385, my parents are very excited about taking me to thrift stores in the area. They try to help me find stuff at Goodwill, which is cute but kind of annoying because things they thought were “valuable” in their day, are actually quite common (i.e. Avon & Norman Rockwell junk, Bavarian dishes, things from U.S. occupied Japan, etc.). I felt bad for frequently having to say, “No, I don’t think that will really sell.” Finally my mom found a nice pair of Kate Spade shoes that I wouldn’t have necessarily purchased on my own at $19.99, but felt like I needed to buy in order to keep from being a Buzz Killington. She was very excited. My husband brought me a mass produced sign for $1.99 that he was excited could possibly sell for…..$10. I bought it for no other reason than to encourage him to perhaps get into the ebay flipping game himself eventually.
Some of my better sales during the week 1/15/17 – 1/22/17:
Walt Disney Oliver & Company 4′ x 10′ movie banner – $75
Polar Bear Sweater – $199.99
St John Quarter Zip Sweater – $59.99My goal for this year is to be more focused throughout the day. I’m easily distracted and it is quite common for me to sit in my ebay room the entire day and only get 3 or 4 things listed! One major motivation for me to stay on task & list is I bought a new-ish car yesterday. It was desperately needed as my 16 year old Ford Escape with 198K miles had become very unreliable and left me stranded more than once. So now I have a car loan for the first time in over 15 years. Having that debt hanging over my head is very motivating. I want it paid off ASAP!
Happy 2017 everybody!
Wow! Flashback! I once moved into a house in Iowa that had wallpaper all over the place that is the exact match to that fabric.
12/29/2016 at 10:07 am in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Colt Pistol grips, John Deere hat, Candle Snuffer, Star Wars books on tape #9090I follow my favorite sellers on ebay and then at night while lying in bed I sometimes flip through their solds on the ebay app. I noticed that Dec 27th was a GREAT day for Ryanne and Jay’s store! Two astronomical sales. Can’t wait to hear about it on the next podcast.
Hi Mr. Cardinal, I used to live in NW DC. If you haven’t been there yet, you might want to visit the thrift store that is on Wisconsin Ave, in church basement next door to the National Cathedral. I used to visit it a lot when I was just starting to dip my toes into reselling on ebay. It’s a wealthy neighborhood so they get a lot of great things donated to them.
I thought I’d share a “scavenging while on the road” story. I went to Iowa for 2 weeks to help my parents move. While there I shopped at my favorite hometown thrift store and picked up a $4 snare drum. It was a little beat up, which is the type of stuff I’m drawn to for resale. I didn’t want to ship it back home to Georgia as it was pretty heavy so I listed it for a quick flip. It sold in less than 24 hours for $385! That was enough to pay for my roundtrip flight and airport parking for the 2 weeks. Details on the drum – it was a 1944-1945 Slingerland snare drum with wood finish. If it had been in better shape and I was at home in GA, I might have held out for $500 – $600.
