So any time I am in my office my cat has to be in the same room, but everyday she steals a piece of bubble wrap and just sits there and licks it. Over and over! It’s mildly annoying and I don’t think it’s exactly safe for her to do (she doesn’t bite it or chew on it but still).
Does anyone else get to deal with stuff like this with your pets? I am thinking it would help if I gave her a space that is hers and maybe some toys of her own.

My dog comes with me when I am packaging items up. Sometimes she steps on the paper I am trying to use as a wrapping which then has toenail holes. Or she thinks that me sitting on the floor means snuggle time and her hair gets into the tape. She has longer hair so it is pretty much a waste of tape. But I love her and she just likes to hang out with me.

My dogs have their own room to hang out in when they’re not with anyone outside, we actually call it The Dogs’ Room. I don’t let them anywhere near my ebay work space. I have a great-nephew who’s only 8, and he’s severely allergic to many many things and has a compromised immune system, so I take that into consideration when shipping to my customers.

It sounds like you are blessed with space, where I am not. I would love for my cat to have her own room but unfortunately I am poor and live in a 2 bedroom apartment. I don’t let her sit on my items, and the only reason she is let in my office is that she starts gouging the door when I am in there. When I am not in there, she is kept out. I do what I can, but until life changes for me this is my reality.

My desktop is a cardtable for the PC tower and keyboard and cat bed, a small folding table next to that holds my monitor. When I’m working at the computer, my cat is either on the floor near me, in her bed, between me and the keyboard , between me and the monitor, or on me. She is 16 and she likes to be with me.
There are times when it drives me crazy, but I accept the fact that I’d rather have time with her than workplace efficiency. LOL….so to prove all this, she just now got out of her bed and is sitting between me and the keyboard, making this hard to type LOL

Do you have one of those cat towers/platforms for her. Cats like these because they can be up high and have their own space. You may want to get one of these. I see people giving them away all the time.

Does your cat like catnip? If so, maybe you could get a container of catnip and store some little balls or a soft toy in there. Only get it out when you are in there working — that might distract her from licking the plastic. Some cats are just into plastic — I have a couple who love to chew plastic and plastic bags. Sometimes I have to throw one away because there are cat tooth holes in it. I have one whose little tongue started hanging out all of the time. When I asked the vet about it he said she must have been chewing on hard plastic because she had broken off her front bottom teeth so there was nothing to hold her tongue in!
I’m sure it isn’t good for them but neither are the chemicals that come out of the carpet or laminate flooring — As Joe Jackson said “Everything gives you cancer. There’s no cure, there’s no answer.” You might just have to start using your mp3 player to block the licking.

do you have a door you can close? that would be my first line of defense.

My cat does the same. I had to get a large plastic bin with a top to store all packing supplies. The tall ones are great because they take up less space. I also have to use this for packed items ready to ship. He will chew on the packages to get at the tape. I have a small table where I wrap, so there is not enough room for him to jump up and pester me. He goes outside, and I usually let him out if he tries to get into my work. Birds, squirrels, and the garden are more interesting anyway.

My cat will play for hours with a small square of styrofoam.

I feel like I spend 80% of my day opening and closing the front door for my 2 cats and 2 dogs. Someone is always either wanting out or in. Drives me crazy!
