I don’t see anything crazy there, but i don’t like how ebay is trying to push “free returns”.
I suppose this is to compete with Amazon, but I eat enough “free returns” on that platform already.Of all the returns I received on ebay over the last 2 years only one person has paid for return shipping. OF all the other items returned to me only one was actually broken/malfunctioning. The other returns were INAD disguised as buyers remorse.
I understand this is a business even if part time, so overall eating return fees is extremely small. Maybe $100 over that last two years, but I think ebay needs a better system for return disputes.
I tried promoted listings for the first time a few days ago. I had 3 of the same items to sell. One sold thru the promoted listing (and I was charged) but the other two sold thru my standard listing.
When I searched for my item on ebay I was already on the front page so in my case I don’t think the promoted listing really mattered.
I plan to try it again though since we are supposed to have $30 credit each month.
Forgot to mention, bought an xbox 360 S at garage sale for $5 with 250gb hard drive, but no power brick/cord. Found power brick/cord at good will for $3. Sold the whole system for $100 a couple weeks later. $8 into $100
Also, I mentioned this before, FVF on video game consoles are only 4%.
If you know what you’re doing with consoles and can get them cheap enough they are very lucrative IMO.
I don’t sell a lot of stuff over $50, but here are some good recent finds.
Gamecube with 2 wavebird wireless controllers and gameboy player adapter with boot disc. Found at estate sale for $20.
Gameboy player adapter with boot disc sold for $80 within a day.
One wavebird wireless controller sold for $40 within a day.
Gamecube system with one wired controller and memory card sold within 2 days for $65.
Turned $20 into $185 dollars within a couple days (excluding shipping)Micheal Kors Hawaii perfume (no longer produced) at good will store for $13 (was half off) Sold within a week for $100.
Four Sony Playstation 2’s with 6 controllers and 4 memory cards at garage sale for $45.
Sold three within a week for $60 each (excluding shipping) $45 into $180
(I still have one PS2 left, but I always hold one back in case there are issues with the ones I have sold and need to do a return/replace)Found approx 100 complete boxed nintendo (nes) video games + one nes system for $100. Gives me an average cost of $1 each. I have sold a few already to recoup initial cost, but a conservative estimate of the total profit on this lot is at least $1500.
The woman who sold them to me told me she has more and will hold them for me at her next garage sale.
Found (3) fairly new Dell desktops i3-6100’s at estate sale for $10 each. I will be keeping one and will try to sell the other two locally for $150 each.
As others have said ebay defines the return window as 30 days from received date. (i.e. the day the buyer received the item)
IME when people start complaining and asking about returns via ebay messages they are looking for some type of discount. I DO NOT respond to them and wait for them to open a return case. Believe it or not this actually works.
As far as I’m concerned if there’s no return case open, there’s no return.
If your buyer is also a seller they know how the return system works.
For fun you can also check that buyers feedback to see if they have a history of leaving negatives (usually due to returns). I had a buyer like that once who left something like 12 negatives in a row on other sellers for return reasons.
Strangely enough they didn’t neg me and I ignored their requests for returns thru the message system. They never opened an official return.
When you set up a multi quantity listing on ebay under shipping charges there’s another box that says “additional items” or something similar.
It would look like this
Shipping 3.99 each additional .99 (or whatever you want to charge)
To my knowledge you have to subscribe to at least an ebay basic store to use multi quantity listings.
Are you sure that message came from ebay? It’s extremely long winded for an ebay message. These cases are decided by computers automatically and not humans. That is the main reason you have to call ebay or paypal to get to the bottom of a return issue.
Regardless, if the package was delivered to the buyers address on file with ebay it’s not your problem, so ebay stating they need “3 more days” to evaluate your case doesn’t make sense.
Calling ebay for more details is probably the best solution.

In regards to FedEx adding on shipping charges you may find some answers here

In regards to the new USPS postage due policy this video gives an overview of how the postal system works. The relevant part for packages starts at approx the 6:25 mark.
This is also totally bizarre because the USPS is delivering hundreds of thousands of “amazon” branded boxes every day. They [USPS] wouldn’t even know how to differentiate what is an official amazon box vs a used amazon box.
I have never heard of that policy and I would ask for it in writing. Next time you’re at that post office ask to speak with the post master. If that doesn’t work call 1-800-ASK-USPS
I always recommend to speak with the post master first to at least give them a chance to correct the situation. When a customer calls the 800 number the post master will have to follow up on the complaint to the district manager / district office.

There’s no rule against shipping boxes or reusing boxes with preprinted company names AFAIK.
Alcohol and tobacco products are not allowed unless the names are completely covered up.That’s a good question, and I don’t have a clue how to buy a goodwill franchise either. I’m curious if they are required to give back a percentage of their sales to the local community or are they required to give back a percentage to maintain their “tax exempt” status.
I looked at Goodwill’s financial statements before and their gross revenue is 5.6 billion dollars. If we assume they net 10% on that – it equals $560 million dollars. (10% net is probably a conservative estimate) I would love to know where that money goes. They [goodwill] says 83% goes back into the communities, but I don’t believe that at all.
AS I was writing this ebay sent me a message via email saying case closed in my favor.
Previously, I only had confirmation of the case being closed per automated telephone response.
Before the case was closed the status said “waiting for buyers response” so looks like they don’t know how ebay works or they completely ignored ebay’s request.
FWIW, per USPS rules boxes with liquor logos or names need to be covered or scribbled over with black magic marker. Also, any previous stickers or writings that say something like, fragile, ORM-D, hazardous, etc need to be covered as well. If not, your package may be delayed and or returned to you.
For example, ORM-D means the package can only be shipped via ground, so the package will still make it to its destination, but it will be slow(er). If shipping to AK, HI, PR the package will be returned to you, since it can’t go on a plane.
UPS and FedEX have very similar rules.
