I am assisting in the art department. I am more of a paperwork than a shopper but occasionally they have me order stuff on line. When they need something from Ebay – know I’m the guy :).
And yeah I LOVE that part of the job.
I think 100 is reasonable. Wait a few days and start sending offers to the watchers. If you send a $50.00 offer the buyer feels like they are getting a deal 🙂
The customer was probably using a corporate Fed Ex account. I work for a company that has a crazy amazing Fed Ex rates (we would all kill for their shipping rates). This person probably either had approved access to (or more likely was “borrowing”) their offices Fed Ex account.
The return address does not have to match your shipping address when the buyer sends a Fed Ex label. Fed Ex will assess the actual charge based on the drop off location. Since you are not generating the label, the only thing you need to be concerned about is making sure that the seller’s address is a confirmed address (the one provided in the Ebay system).
I’m with Jay – when in doubt set a very high price (too high). Then wait a week. If your item has interest value the collectors will start to watch the item and send offers. After 1 or 2 weeks if there isn’t any interest drop to something more reasonable.

I am also a stutterer. I had on my to-do list a reminder to thank you for podcasting with your stammer. I wish I had sent the thank you at the same time you got your other well-intentioned but misguided email.
I am about your age and went through the same humiliating “special” classes back in the 70s. Can you post a link to the type of therapy you mentioned in the podcast? The whole concept kind of blew my mind.
Finally found a blog from 2008 that states he sells the birds for about $175.00 each. But if anyone has further research tools that can tell me what this stuff sells for on the reseller market – I’d appreciate it.
