Premium stitchery kits, a reliable seller and easy listing and shipping but I usually get them cheap04/20/2019 at 1:47 pm in reply to: What Sells On eBay: Woolrich sweater, Stim u lax massager, Bears light up hat, Pole lamp, Ashtrays, Pearlcorder, Reel push mower #60554Sales had been very minimal but picked up a bit the last two weeks. I also read online that is true for retail generally. Here’s a few used item sales I had in the past few weeks.
This item I found when I went very late to an estate sale run by people who totally know their stuff. Still found a couple of things. It sold immediately after I sent an offer to buyers for $30. I paid like $3 I think. Vintage Tiki Tapa Placemats I actually like this kind of 50s-60s tiki stuff for my house but thought I probably wouldn’t get around to using theses placemats. If anyone has a tablecloth like this, then we’re talking.
This 60s fiberglass bowl I got an an estate sale around the corner from my house – nobody was looking in the kitchen cabinets. Paid a buck. This also sold make offer to buyers for $20 (five bucks off). Head’s up that the tiki tapa pattern of this Traymold brand serving pieces I have found in the wild (and kept and use) and it sells really well. Here’s another seller’s listing: of that pattern.
I paid $4 for these NOS Disney linens at the indy thrift. I’m resisting vintage linens lately unless it’s still in the package. They sold pretty quickly.
Finally another offer of $30, but took a couple of years to sell. vintage patriotic print drapery fabric.
Have a good weekend trash elves.
Oh no! Sorry Sally, that’s disappointing. I tried sending them an email about my painting and they never answered.

Don’t want to dwell on it, but it was a bitter pill to swallow. You should be getting $2k credit (not deduction) for each kid who is 16 or under on 12/31/18 to help offset the loss of deductions. Luckily, that was a last minute add on to get one of the final majority votes.

Number of items listed this week: 8An ok week on Ebay. Limping along here selling of existing inventory. I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about Ebay’s future because after that public beat down of management, I sense they are doing a bit better with technology management and progressing toward a modern app. It doesn’t seem as disruptive as it used to be. This week is a bit dense with non-Ebay but the taxes are filed and the weekend might be good for listing.
With our high cost of living, I don’t really ever feel like I’m waltzing around with significant disposable income to worry about spending or investing. My husband has been socking away pre-tax money for retirement like a madman and that plus our housing, taxes, and other cost of living keep us keeping up. Probably some of the people who don’t have kids can afford to be a little bit loose. Why not treat yourself a bit I guess in that instance? If we do have “extra money” we will stay somewhere nice on an annual vacation or spend it on experiences together – good memories. I do feel like there has to be some kind of balance with the frugalness and living your life while you are relatively young. (Our moms passed away in their early 60s.) Most people need a little treat now and then to stay motivated at the grindstone. But fancy cars and collections of things don’t appeal to us.
04/15/2019 at 1:29 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 406: Disposable Income, WTF is that? #60204My condolences Sharyn on your tax bill. We really got hammered here too and paid thousands more. Fortunately, my estimates were good and I paid it quarterly. It’s really difficult to not be bitter about it. Apparently there isn’t much sympathy because many people don’t get it’s hitting people living a middle class lifestyle in an expensive, high tax area. Some of our friends with a full time instead of part time second spouse like me actually didn’t get hit as hard because they had already been phased out of some deductions. We were right in the sweet spot. 🙁 On the other hand, some people have it worse because they are paying for kids in college to boot.
Lots going on still but I listed 8 items. Better than 0
I am running “Full version” 5.30.0.1518 IOS on an iphone 8
It’s not working well today. Some items are repeats from the last couple of days and it’s not bringing up any new ones after I make offers. I sold two vintage bread and butter $20-30 items at a small discount, one has been listed over a year.
I watch items I like but don’t want to pay the price, then I usually forget about them (more true on Ebay than Mercari). Often when I get an offer from a seller it’s still more than I want to pay so I don’t accept but it does bring the item back to my attention. I think it’s an awesome tool. You’re not entirely at the mercy of the algorithm this way.
No action yesterday but one offer did get accepted right away today with a little better discount, like 20 percent off. I was only able to send offers on about 7 items today for whatever reason. I think I read before that weekends, especially Sundays are a better time to try this.
Luckily my buyer will take another (more expensive one) as replacement. Bit of a loss and a late shipping ding for me but I’ll take it over calling Ebay. I imagine she’s a little lady who does needlepoint and won’t hit me with a negative.
I’ll let you know. FYI I didn’t take much off – just over the 5% on most things, like a couple of bucks on the typical item. In the past it has worked for me a couple of times, less than 10% of the time on Ebay. On Mercari I had more success with it, but you have to discount it more heavily and my prices there were originally lower.
Ugh, I just resold an item that sold in March. I don’t sell similar or end and relist. I loathe calling Ebay so will see if the buyer will take another similar item.
Congrats Simon! That’s exciting.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong with my big sale to an Asian country middleman place. Most of those I’ve had go well but I did have some scammy one and for some reason I have a bad feeling about this transaction. The rest of the week was pretty poor once again. Had kind of a threatening email too on a cracked item mentioning feedback, but after I refunded got “rock solid seller” feedback. Before I could block they bought a similar item in my store. I packed the crap out of it and hope it gets delivered safely tomorrow!
Finished my bookkeeping, taxes, but will continue to be distracted by preparing to renovate my dad’s new condo. Luckily most of that action will be in summer when Ebay sales are already slower usually.
I hear that there is a lot of tv chatter about a recession despite fairly good economic measurements and again, we are in the minority paying a lot more in taxes this year under the new law, so I’m pleased some of you scavengers are still having pretty good numbers despite all of that.
