Went to run a sale today and it was super easy to just put the whole store on sale with a few fields on one page. Nice addition.
Also the social tab is still young but somewhat improved. You can now select up to 4 listings at a time to post on a Pinterest board at once. You can also set up an automatic posting preference for future listings. I tried seeing what their created Instagram post looked like, but it did not look good.
Also I don’t know when this was added but you can go into your active listings list on desktop at least and click on research prices. If you have a common item or one with a barcode you can see how your price is compared to actives and 90 day solds.

I think most of us are certainly feeling it. I don’t know if eBay can do much if the issue is the economy and election concerns.

Yes. Economy is concerning. I think the credit cards floated spending for a while and now people are really feeling strapped. But yesterday I sold one used pillow sham for $67. Thank goodness for those buyers.
My favorite premium brands have been running fall sales so they must be slow and concerned as well.

Certainly part of the slump in on line sales is due the shortened Holiday season and election agitate. But it would be nice if eBay reversed its policy of shifting the entire burden of advertising and promotion on to its sellers.
When is the last time you saw an ad for eBay on television, radio or print. Have the country is in an econmoic the other half is doing great. It would be nice if they spent their own money to target other demographics.

@Debits I’m hoping they do an ad campaign since sales are slower than expected. But I guess they would probably highlight enthusiastic buyer categories (auto, cards, etc.) instead of being able to find anything on Ebay or gifting.

TV, YouTube, and on the side of buses here. British Asian woman thinking of selling her partner’s owl lamp he bought in Bali. Then she looks at his Pekinese dog, and the narrator says “Don’t even think about it!”

I’m excited to see the changes to running a sale. According to the update, it’s being rolled out slowly and I’m not one of the lucky few who has seen the new setup. Since I was on the markdown page anyway, I ran a 20% sale on most of my store to run this week. If you’re ever going to run a sale, this would be the week to do it — Americans will need a distraction, and what’s a more American distraction than a sale?
In terms of overall sales on the platform, I tend to agree with @Sharyn that no amount of advertising will make much of a difference right now. As a younger millennial I think anyone my age 40 and below tunes out most ads — I don’t have cable, I don’t listen to radio, I use ad blockers and skip ads on any content that I engage with. Plus, it’s not just eBay where sales are in a slump — it’s everywhere. Though I wouldn’t call this year slow — more accurate to say that sales have been inconsistent. I also think it’s possible that the patterns of online retail have changed since to heyday of this podcast that has brought us all together. January and February were pretty strong months for me the last two years. I’m curious if that trend will hold this year, but I expect it will.
I’d love to see eBay introduce a replacement for the eBay bucks program, which was quietly ended in April (though there hadn’t been any offers for over a year), and this time of year seems like the best possible time to do it. Not holding my breath, though.

eBay
In an email to Chain Store Age, eBay announced its first global brand campaign in nearly a decade: ‘Things.People.Love.’ The campaign is designed to answer the question ‘why eBay?’ and shows how eBay supports buying and selling all kinds of things – from motor parts to vintage luxury to rare collectibles.
Creator and influencer Emma Chamberlain is among the celebrities eBay has recruited to share their personal stories, with a 15-second promotional spot airing from Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024 across linear and digital platforms highlighting vintage handbags.
Other influencers who will be featured in eBay holiday promotional spots include designer Nicole McLaughlin and celebrity fashion stylist Maeve Reilly. The campaign, developed in partnership with JOAN, includes dedicated assets across the categories of fashion, motors and collectibles, which appear across out-of-home, TV, digital and social feeds worldwide.
A forthcoming spot that convenes all of these categories will begin running later in November 2024.
“Things.People.Love. is the latest major marker in eBay’s commitment to modernize the brand and engage our customers in a way that truly resonates,” said Emily O’Hara, eBay global head of brand. “With this global brand campaign, we are reigniting the connection with eBay as the home for passions, setting the stage for our continued evolution as a global leader in e-commerce.”

Comparing the US ad (Emma Chamberlain buys a new handbag) to the UK ad (eBay seller’s clearing out the junk) I guess eBay US is chasing after buyers and eBay UK wants more sellers.
I gather this is what soured Mercari on the UK- couldn’t get the sellers.
