Looks like the style of the classic golden books series. But maybe just a generic engineer cat.
Have had many successful transactions to the north – just really interested in what the buyer sees and why the costs seem to be such a surprise!!!!
Too funny – have recently had great success selling CDs and DVDs – after a long time with little interest, it has picked up remarkably.
This accounts for my irritating begging for the return of the super efficient UPC based pre-filled item process!
Que sera, sera – only one thing matters, LIST EVERYTHING TODAY !!!
A.B.L.!!!
It does make you wonder about motivation, this fee increase on the media category – no incentive to even HAVE a store in the category – does this encourage small sellers or discourage large sellers? There are plenty of giant arbitrage type sellers of CDs and DVDs, what do they think?
And many of my transactions in the category have been over $20 – there’s money to be made.
Jay has mentioned this , it would be super interesting to know what is causing eBay to think they need to do this – what problem are they trying to fix?
Ok, gotta go, have over 100 DVDs to list as 30 day listings!
08/01/2018 at 2:52 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 371: T-Satt (Troy) Reports on eBay Open #46643Really enjoyed the podinterview – so appreciate the big picture perspective!
So helpful to hear a reminder that eBay people are listening, they will make mistakes, and will reconsider given evidence!
On the other hand – summer doldrums seem to have lifted, shipped 8 items over the weekend and 3-4 daily this week, added ~20 new CDs / DVDs , almost all moved!!!
Of course, if the bar code scanner / Prefilled items was back to normal, I could have listed at least double the amount. Efficiency comes from good systems!!!!
Wondering, are you using the UPC code to start?
One of my recent issues is that for a lot of media ite,
Ms ( CDs, LPs, DVDs, the Prefilled Ino has started to either not be there or be wildly inaccurate. After years of being standardized.Sounds like ebays metadata department has become very, very confused.
First of all, you’ll get more traction talking to people you know, expanding your network, getting in touch with old friends, etc. Finding satisfying work is a full job in and of itself. And it isn’t fun.
I used to tell a friend of mine ( we have both been doing eBay since the late 90s) that he had probably done more sales on the internet than most of the people getting jobs with web retailers. If you think of what eBay sellers have to do nearly everyday, and put that on your resume, you might be able to tell a convincing story.
Think of it! Customer service!!! Admin skills needed to list and maintain records and do analysis!!! Inventory management – purchasing – liability and fancy terms like cogs, roi, turns!!! Operational pick, pack, ship, and knowledge of best practices!!! And did I mention…
Customer service???
Being an eBay seller requires you to Always adapt. You can tell your story with what you can do better than a title and a date range.
But at the end of the day, relationships and referrals and advice if others will help the most
Hooray and thanks for putting this all in front of the people who can address it!
Thanks times a million!
07/27/2018 at 6:16 pm in reply to: A Foolish example of eBay's catalog confusion – Prefilled item details #46294Follow up : the Prefilled titles have often been dopey, but the issue seems to stem form inclusion of the record companies name in the title. MOST people could care less about the label name, so no idea why that would be important in the minds of the eBay managers. But, it’s now worse.
And, this system has worked flawlessly for YEARS. got a large stack of Media to get rid of, want to get my listings up, urge, make it easy again!!!!
Xoxoxo eBay!
07/15/2018 at 7:27 pm in reply to: eBay UPC – Prefilled Item info – standardized items – is way outta whack! #45459Yikes! Just spent time on associated eBay community boards – I think the answers are there somewhere ( there are cheerful eBay employees trying to help ) but it’s sure a cesspool of agonized people.
Yippee!!!!!
07/15/2018 at 11:41 am in reply to: eBay UPC – Prefilled Item info – standardized items – is way outta whack! #45441Of course , need to let them know. I think there may even be a product correction team.
Most of the items which aren’t working are recent release – all new sealed etc – we’ll see.Seems to me that the physical medua biz is low return these days.
07/15/2018 at 9:27 am in reply to: eBay UPC – Prefilled Item info – standardized items – is way outta whack! #45424Thought it might be helpful to offer some examples-
The way it used to be :Hell On Wheels S4 Bluray – UPC 741952797197
Scan UPC, up comes a draft with complete info.
The way it seems to be now:
Blackberry Smoke Find A Light CD
UPC 75283051362Scan UPC, 16 different listings come up to choose from – none of which seems to be a complete “official” product id.
Third try, the Muscle Shoals Bluray – comes up with that one and the Dave Grohl Soubd City show ???
So, if eBay is primarily focused on new items, and directing sellers to adhere to product IDs, don’t you think they should maintain their data base?
Well, surprise surprise – this was fixed! App updated, and this was the key fix.
On the message it also said notify them of app issues at http://www.ebay.com/iOS – which is going to get bookmarked!
Funny how many changes and updates affect our “SOPs” – or business habits if you will. Pleased this annoyance has passed.
Next up, accessing existing business policies from the app instead of overriding to default. A 4 pound book is not going to ship first class mail…
Listen to the Tech Talk history of eBay podcasts referenced in another thread – nice, reminders of the way things used to be vs. what they have become.
The second one refers to the big breakdown, even made the news – but back then eBay got in front of it and offered credits, extended end times and made up lost seller fees. Yes, it was all auctions back then, but they were much more accommodating.Contrast that with today when they not only much bigger but have their hands in every thing from shipping to payments, so ostensibly know everything about every transaction. But instead of using that data to make everything smoother, they are inspired to make everything a mess.
Maybe they have gotten so big that one department doesn’t know what the other one is doing. Good things cancelled by bad, the executives dictating direction, and no one can execute.
Still the best marketplace in the world, I just wish they could celebrate what they do better than any other company ( bringing people with cool stuff together with people who like cool stuff ) and stop trying to turn into an Awkward Amazon.
COMMUNICATION IS KEY!
Used to get an email from them on every year anniversary of being a part of the community. Meaningless, but it stopped several years ago.
And, I miss it.
Glad to see it isn’t just me! I also started back in ’97!
So. The app has gone all wonky – today couldn’t add a picture to a listing because , apparently, that triggers an error message telling me I can’t change return policies. Which – wasn’t trying to do. And, couldn’t anyway since that field is locked.
Feel like getting out my old Sony mavica floppy disc camera and firing up the windows 95 computer. Dialup….
06/25/2018 at 7:19 pm in reply to: Please pardon this rant about sellers who charge ABSURDLY high shipping rates. #43510Well, here’s how it is playing out.
First, did I mention that these trains typically sell for ~$10 -12 with shipping?
Mike, if the item had a buried shipping cost, wouldn’t have an issue per se. But in your scenario I’d likely offer $12.50 and be happy enough. My question / rant is really about being upfront about the price you want and the cost you might incur.
I like AdventureE’s point, just be fair about it.
Probably matters that this is an auction, too. Seller likely hedging his bets trying to get a bid then will stick it to the buyer.
Steve, did reach out to the seller who replied quickly with over-the top folksy attitude, willing to work with me, but every response inched the price up. Very fuzzy.
Somehow I’m reminded of buying a part from Sears for my lawnmower – great deal. Ship to store, $7 part, $15 shipping to local store. Wait, how is Sears doing these days LOL.
As a buyer, I’ just wait for a fairly priced example to pop up.
As a seller, I’ll continue to ask why!
