Excuses: my main excuse is that my photography drives me to distraction, to the point where I don’t even want to list any more. I love hunting for treasures, have my inventory storage, packing and shipping down to an art, enjoy the research, and don’t mind (too much) the actual listing process. No, it’s the photographing that kicks my heinie. I have severe ADHD, and a fair whack of OCD thrown in, so that not having my photos just so grates me so badly that I want to scrap them and redo them. If I could find an easy way to snap and list, my listing would take off!
I’ve tried using my phone to take photos, but the quality just isn’t up to par compared to a camera, where I can tweak and perfect the lighting, color, and so on. That being said, I have a return where the buyer says the colors are “too rich” compared to the item IRL. Sigh…
Photography has become the frog in my listing day. And because of the lighting being better later in the day, I can’t “eat the frog first.” I shall have to find a solution this year.
Sharyn, you are WAY too organized. You can actually ITEMIZE your Death Piles! Holey toledo!
I have the top of the long shelf in the garage, an entire shelving unit in the garage, a full bookshelf next to the desk, an assortment of boxes under the desk, and a 16 ft by 8 ft storage shed packed to the rafters. Then I have an hanging shelf in the spare bedroom with clothes, and ad hoc pieces scattered through the house as well.
As to telling you what’s in everything? Shoes, clothes, hats, bags, decor items, DIY items, books; a whole hodge podge of stuff. If we have to actually list our DP items, I’m toast! π
Hey folks. I went down with a bit of a relapse last week, so still not up to speed. This flu was bad. Started listing sewing machines too, from the haul that the hubs brought in last year. He’s started refurbishing the machines and this is a whole new niche to grope through and learn about. Listed 4, so I’ve at least moved off the starting plate!

@VintageTreasures – try this great idea to give structure to your bag for knitting

Also, add a grommet to the center front of the bag, then feed your yarn through the hole.Congratulations to all. Great going so far!
Spreadsheet updated. Winner this week: Vintage Lacy
Goodwill Mania is now a thing. I’d pretty much given up on Goodwill as a source anyway.
I guess I’m going to have to go find all the hidden thrifts in my area. Somebody posted in the In 2019 I Will… thread that they would put together a list of all thrifts in their area with opening times and days. I shall have to add that to my TDL so that I can make a plan for a couple round trips each month.
Hi Grace, wishing you very happy travels.
I’ve just returned from the UK. I posted this in the Trash Elf Twins thread, but for your convenience so that you don’t have to wade through all of it, I’m just going to copy/paste it here.
The thrift stores were, for the most part, utterly depressing. Prices were high and the stuff uninspiring. I think that the gems in thrifts are very location based. In other words, a small town thrift in a mid-range community is not going to have much to offer, while going to a large town or an affluent part of town, will be more fruitful. By that same token, I visited a couple of the charity shops on the High Street and was surprised to discover they were actually charity shops. They look like standard retail shops from the outside. Some of them had great pricing, and some of them had Goodwill Mania. It was an interesting exercise in frustration. My notes to me are to go in summer, when my bags are light and I am not expected to return with gifts, and spend some time being selective in my shop choice. That being said, with the forex rates not being in our favor, Iβm not sure that itβs even worth dragging stuff back. Iβd have to find something really special.
I’ve had much more fun looking through charity stores on previous visits when I went to Scotland. I found some awesome stuff there! If you have a very specific idea of what you’re searching for, that might help you sniff out the treasures. And if there are any car boot markets, you’ll pick up some goodies. (Car boot markets are car trunk sales – usually in a field from the back of a car or truck, so they’re normally held when the weather is friendlier.)
Good luck!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to travel as much as I’d hoped. When you have a large family and haven’t visited for a while, they’re kind of … demanding… yeah? The weather was abnormally warm, as it usually is when I visit, so that was good, but most of the time was taken up in homes drinking tea and eating large quantities of mince pies!
My visit to Oxford was unexpectedly brief, but I spent the most glorious couple hours in the Market – and didn’t think to pull out my camera once! Such quirky and fun items everywhere, I went nuts buying almost everything I needed for gifts and trinkets for the folks back home. My weight allowance was maxed out before I packed a single clothing item! LOL I also managed to visit the old prison. It is the biggest, most imposing place! And they’ve converted one wing into a hotel. Of course, my next visit HAS to include a night there!

Overall, it was great to meet up with family again and, of course, visit my kids. It felt like a long trip, and too short, all at the same time. I have already advised everyone that the next trip will be three days after school starts. 10 hours on a plane packed full of children is not happening again! π
Winner this week: Libby
Vintage Treasures – thanks. Corrected it. Yes, we have major competition this year. As I was stone last in 2018, I really have the motivation to up my game! On the other hand, it’s kinda fun being the mule that plods along and carries you guys! Ha ha ha!
Libby – welcome to the group. I’ve added your numbers for last week and will update you going forward.
ChristineR – great idea to do photos. I’m planning on creating a Death Pile Support Group, as suggested by … Vintage Treasures? I think it was VT, but if not, my apologies. We can post our photos there and discuss various DP methods, if you’re keen. I really found it motivating to clear my stuff based off the photos.
Sharyn – my sympathies for your loss. At least it wasn’t a shock.
Vintage Lacy – you nailed it! I was wondering why I was seeing so many llamas just lately and what the deal was. And, now that you mention it, a couple sloth items have come up too. People have the weirdest tastes!
My listing number for the week is zero. Zip, zilch, nada! I didn’t even get out of bed! After posting here on Monday last week, I went to the post office to drop off some orders. On Wednesday I staggered to the doctor’s office, wobbled to the chemist to pick up the prescribed antibiotics, and went back to bed. I stayed there the whole week! I started with flu on New Year’s Day, and it just got worse, and worse, and worse! The doc said I had a secondary infection – pneumonia or bronchitis or something. I felt awful. Then, to add insult to injury, the man went down with it too. Nothing like a man on his death bed when you’re sick, right? He’s a wonderful husband, and took care of me so well when I was sick, but when he gets sick, he turns into the Grinch on steroids! Anyway, I was up for a couple hours on Saturday and sewed myself a pair of panties. They’re in the rag bin. Then I got up on Sunday and sewed myself another pair of panties. They’re pretty cute, and might actually work. Couple of glaring mistakes, but okay to wear around the house. I’m sure, as I continue to learn from my mistakes, I’ll end up with some cool new underwear. It will help when I can breathe. I’ve decided there’s a direct correlation between the nose and the brain. When the nose is stuffed up, the brain doesn’t work! π
I’ll try to get some posts up on the old site about my trip. Also, please will last year’s winners email me so that I can get those prizes out?
So good to be back!
Trying a new way of sharing the numbers, with a Dropbox shared folder. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

Winner this week: Vintage Treasures. First point!
Vintage Treasures: in order to not clutter up this new thread, I’ll post info on my travels in the old one.
And, everyone, I’m still waiting for winners to email me. (Got yours Sharyn, thanks!) Please email me, I would love to send you your gewgaws.
As I’d never heard of packing noodles before, per bcfol440’s suggestion, I googled them. They do look like fun! And not badly priced either. Thanks for the suggestion!
Inglewood – I like your steal hack. I think I’m going to try to add a vertical measurement for the height. It’s easy to spin the box to get the two horizontal measurements, but I often fight with odd-shaped packages for height. If I have a vertical line, I can just put a ruler across the top of the package and read off.
I love collaboration! π
Cool tool. Thanks for sharing!
Zero for me this week as I just got back from the UK.
Hope everyone else had a good start to their year!
01/04/2019 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Trash Elf Twins Challenge 2018 Thread #3 From Week 31 August #54511Well done everyone for your stellar performance and for sticking it out! You guys did a great job of listing and listing and listing.
The final spreadsheet! Molly didn’t post numbers for the past two weeks. I can update if I get the numbers.
Twins Winner: ChristineR is the clear winner with both numbers and points. Sharyn squeaked a win with points and numbers. Our final twin set is a head scratcher. itemsfromthesouth took it on points, but Vintage Treasures listed just under four times more items on numbers. However, I was working with points to create a “weighted average”, recalculating the points every time I created a new twinset so that it would be even for the period of the twinning, rather than overall numbers.. For that reason, I’m going to award it to Molly, if everyone agrees. Vintage Treasures, you did an awesome job listing over 800 items!
Would the three winners please email me your addresses at snratoni@yahoo.com so that I can send you your goofball prizes? I genuinely do have prizes for you, so please email me and I’ll pop them in the post. They’re silly little items that will give you a grin and a giggle and hopefully remind you to list like crazy every time you see them. If you do like them, share a photo to the group of where you’re going to keep yours. If you don’t like them – just list them! π
Congratulations again. Now… go to the new thread for 2019 and
JUST LIST, dammit!
Some of you may know that I’ve been away overseas for a few weeks. Came home to a brand new packing area. My man is DA BOMB! Check out his awesomeness! (why, yes, I’m bragging! :D)
He built custom storage shelves for the boxes. Packing table with peg board to hold packing supplies, power supply for the scale and phone, measuring tape glued to the back of the table for easy measuring, also a yard stick for items that can’t be positioned on the table, and bags, polymailers, and paper/tissue above and below in totes. The totes don’t really show up in the photos, they’re underneath the packing table. Also can use this for listing, with the shelves to the side loaded with stock waiting for attention.
Stoked, I tell you. I’m just thrilled to the max!
