Wow, it’s been a minute since I last posted. I’m thrilled that you are all still keeping it going. We have built our own little community in this community, haven’t we? 😁
I’ve listed a couple things over the past few weeks, but have been very much “off” eBay this year. So much else trying to get sorted, plus trips almost every week to doctors who are all 80-odd miles away, chomps away at my time. I’m getting to the end of “sorting” though, so hopefully I’ll pick up my eBay mojo and get going again.
Wishing you all a fantastic week. Good luck to Lacy for your show, and to VT for your husband.
Wow, VL, that is horrible! How lucky you were that the VP had your back AND canned the other seller. Now that’s karma!
I’ve heard of folks losing their eBay and Etsy businesses, as well as Amazon, with similar underhanded tactics from competitors. It sucks! My husband’s website was closed down because one of those “we’ll amp up your website” callers reported us as scammers when we refused to work with them. The guy actually told me he would shut us down as he hung up on me! Asshat! Too bad for him that our business is about 95% word of mouth, so I just shrugged and started over.
@VL “Spring Bling Fling” LOVE IT! 😻
@Christine What is this magic you speak of? I must check out this dish packing foam. I have a lot of glassware but, alas, I suspect it’s not worth a bean.
@Sharyn I am totally with you! It’s hard not to hang onto things that seem cool.I got rid of another couple hundred items and I feel so freeeeeee! LOL. I know my numbers sound ridiculous, but I literally had enough DPs to list every day for a year and not run out. Plus I had hundreds of items in my store. Now I’m below 400 in my store and have free space on one* shelf. Unheard of, I tell you!
This week I listed one! Yep, one whole listing. That’s 100% more than I’ve listed all year, so I did brilliantly! 🤣
Wishing you all a wonderful week.
*You did notice it’s only on one shelf, didn’t you? ;o)
Twinsies, Christine! Although.. I didn’t move out clothing, I cleared hard goods. Not only from my DPs but from my store too! As Dearest Hubby says, if it hasn’t sold in 9 years, is it going to sell now? Tbh, it felt fantastic to get rid of all that dead weight! At a guess, I’d say another 400+ items have left the property. When I first started eBay, I began with shoes and men’s clothes and I think I want to return to start. Plus sewing machine parts, because of the hubs.
Taxes were submitted, so now I need to get back to eBay!
Congrats to your son, Christine!
Only 1 is 100% more than I listed, JR! 😜😁
Happy Monday, y’all! I listed nada. I decluttered some more… I’m planning to get my taxes submitted this week so that I can start work again beginning March.
Wishing you all a great week.
Hey JR, good to see you again!
No new listings for me. However, I cleared out another whopping set of boxes filled to the brim with stuff. I didn’t count the items, I was just on a tear to clear out, but if I had to guess, I would say close to 200. I filled 4 boxes with donation items. One of the boxes was almost the width of the back seat of the car, for reference. Usually I sit and price each item before donating, but I’m so, so done with all the cheap ass junk I collected when I first started eBay. Instead I pulled it out and looked at it, almost a Marie Kondo version! Not “does this bring me joy” though, instead it was more of a “do I really want to photograph, list, store, and ship this sucker?” 🤣
I’m busy with taxes this week. I have to submit early because I’m afraid of having a whopping tax bill due to selling property, and once I have cleared the taxes, I need to shut down my husband’s page on Facebook. He wants to start cutting back on business, so I’m trying to reduce our online footprint. With luck, I’ll start listing again next month.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
THIS THREAD IS CLOSED!
Please post in the new 2025 Thread here: https://www.scavengerlife.com/forums/topic/listing-challenge-2025-thread-1/
2025 Changes
The spreadsheet falls away and now it’s just a weekly challenge to list as much as you can, clear your Death Piles, and have a community of supportive people as you work through it all. Therefore, rules #5, #7 and #8 are no longer in force.
Howdy everyone! Sincere apologies for the long silence and for not creating a new thread. I had a very busy end of year and January and ended up going away for three weeks, with no access to computers. I’m also looking at multiple surgeries this year, so I’ve been frantically trying to cancel all my activities and get set up for being out of order.
You have all kept going admirably without me! I’m thrilled to see you’re all going ahead and doing well. I’m going to read through and catch up, and I will create a new thread for 2025. However, I am going to not do the spreadsheet this year. I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to do and am deliberately stepping back from commitments that I might not be able to fulfill. Fingers crossed things work out MUCH better than I’m anticipating, but I need to make provision for the worst.
Happy (belated) New Year to you all!
Lacy, huge hugs for you as you go through so much hassle. I wish you all the warm and fuzzies I can send. Sorry for your stress.
Christine – wow! What an achievement. You must feel on top of the world having cleared all those mugs. Well done!
Sharyn, you’re only 18 in the hole (per last week) and I only managed to clear 35 items in the past TWO weeks, so I still have 75 to go! However, my last obligation was cleared yesterday, and I plan to get stuck in this week. Himself is away for a couple of days, so I have all the time to dig in and get things moving. Fingers crossed I can knock out all 75 in this last week we have remaining. Come on, girl, we can do it!
Good luck to you all for the week.
Love your Insta, Christine! Do you use software to create them or just have mad skillz?
Hey y’all! Sunday evening and I will be out an about all day tomorrow, so I am posting today. I listed zero but I killed it at the DP challenge! Not one, not two, but 100 listings are all gone. I counted listings, not number of items, or it would be higher. A boxed set of 3 is easy to count as one, but when I have 3 items that I would have sold as a set, I had to decide it it was 1 or 3, and decided I was good with 1. To be honest, there weren’t many sets, so it made a small difference. And these were all donated, not listed. I have way too much low-dollar stuff from when I first started in eBay and didn’t know better, and I have to concede that my time would be better spent on $30 items than $7 listings. It hurts to see 100 $7 listings walk out the door, but right now, it’s good for my soul to get rid of the clutter.
The loss of possible income doesn’t compare to the gain in storage. What a huge difference in space! I’m thrilled! I have cleared one half of one shelf in my garage (I have 4 shelves that run almost 17 feet and are 3 feet deep – not small shelves.) I reckon I can easily make the next 100 out of that remaining half shelf, which will mean I only need to find the last 10 to make my 210 for this challenge. Woot! I have stuff piled on a table and on my workbench, so that’s not all I have to be listed, and I still have a full 8×16 ft shed to clear out, so I’m not short of inventory! (Isn’t inventory a much nicer word than death pile? Even if all my inventory IS death piles! LOL.) Anyway, I am sure I can find the remaining 110 items to donate without too much of sweat. And I will be thrilled to be cleared of so much low dollar junk.
For week 48, VT swept us under the table again and she is now up to 26 wins, fully half a year. Congrats VT. Is your address the same? I’ll start working on your prize soon.
Wishing all of you a great week. How’s your Christmas planning coming?
Did you all have a happy Thanksgiving?
Winner for last week was VT again. Congrats on great numbers!
I’ve not shared the link to the spreadsheet in a while, so here you go: TELC
As you can all see VT won this year! I know we still have 3 weeks to go, but it’s no contest! Congrats on a stellar year, VT!
Only 4 weeks to go in our DP Challenge and I am so far behind! BUT… I have a secret weapon. My husband is a machine when it comes to work like this and he has agreed to help me sort through my DPs. Of course, he has an ulterior motive – he wants the garage back! Whatever his incentive, I’m just grateful for the help. We’re going to tag team, with me doing comps on the computer while he sorts. Stuff that is less than $30 will go straight into a Goodwill box. Stuff that is over $30 will be put into separate boxes depending on whether they can go straight to photos or if they need cleaning or some other prep work before photos. I’m fairly certain I can wipe out the entire 210 item in one day with his help.
As a precursor to this activity, he suggested I put my entire store on sale to try to reduce my inventory at the same time, as it hasn’t sold and I have a lot of low dollar stuff. So my entire store, both listed and unlisted, is going to get a massive overhaul. It will be interesting to see my “new” store afterwards! 2025 is being set up beautifully!
@Sharyn – to be honest, I’m still not keen. Actually, another member of our local quilt guild approached us on Saturday and asked if she could participate in “next year’s one.” That would take us up to 5 participants, although the lady who did the worst out of our trio (because she’s exorbitantly overpriced) wants to pull out. My partners pointed out that I have an entire year to sew for it, rather than the 7 weeks’ notice we got this time. As the venue has not yet confirmed if they want to repeat, I’m not sure it’s even up for discussion! LOL. Although I’m 100% positive that we can find an alternate venue in town, so that’s not a good excuse. I don’t know. I love sewing items and I’m very good at the display and chatting to customers. I just really didn’t enjoy the pressure of the deadline and being suddenly voted Fearless Leader. I ended up doing all the display, buying the racks, bringing my own Christmas decorations, etc. If I was doing it on a regular, this would be assets for the next one, but to be suddenly responsible for all this extra purchasing and set up when I’m not even sure we’re going to have another was a bit much. Perhaps I’m just feeling burned out from all that I’ve been expected to do in the last quarter and I’ll feel more enthusiastic in the new year? They’re already talking about a Spring Show and I’m thinking heck no!
That being said, we will be at our local Second Saturday Market to offload the remainder of our stock. It has only two rules: you must live in the area (i.e., have an address at the local post office) and it has to be all home made/grown/reared. It’s free, no fees, and only two hours, so it’s a great opportunity to clear the last of the items we made and also the last of the supplies we bought and didn’t get to make, which gives us 3 weeks to make and sell. I’m happy to do that because in our local Market, if you only have 2 items left on the table, it’s not a problem. We don’t have to have a “full” booth as we would at a craft fair or similar.
But another full show like the boutique we just finished? Still not keen. Nope.
