Sig, I found the easiest way to find groups that I’m interested in on FB is to go to Marketplace and browse under the categories on the left. I usually select the Classifieds category (very little new stuff in there) and, if I find a group that seems to interest me, follow the links to it. Most of the stuff posted in the groups is on the Marketplace anyway.
Thanks Ryanne.
Do you know how well the printer handles hot conditions?
Wow, we cover almost every corner of the States! Just out of interest (and to see how Google would handle the request) I asked for distances from Texas to “…” Google gave me distances from the CENTER of each State. Cool, huh? I was amused to see I’m almost equidistant from the two furthest Elves, although I honestly thought it was further to Oregon than New Jersey. It sure looks that way on the map!
Texas to New Jersey 1,738 miles
Texas to Oregon 1,698 miles
Texas to Colorado 744 miles.Further reading has revealed that I can get from Texas to Oregon or from Texas to New Jersey on Amtrak with almost straight line travel. To get to Oregon, though, I’d have to jink around between trains and buses and stuff or take a long switchback journey. So, VT, although you’re so much closer to me, you’re the most difficult to get to with provided transport. I’d have to drive! (Yes, I can drive, both stick and shift, but when I go on holiday, I love the train!)
And you’re on! I shall have my ears primed and ready! LOL
LOOOOOOOL! That’s awesome. What a great problem to have – and reason to change your Challenge.
Yes, I’m beginning to think that I should aim for a weekly number rather than daily listing. If I list every week, and make my listing goals, that should work. Consistency is still consistency, even if it’s a weekly consist..ancery? rather than daily. (is that a word? No? Well, consistancery is my nomination for 2019 New Words submission! LOL)
BTW, for your acronym learning lessons, LOOOOOOL is like LOL (laugh out loud) but prolonged, as in you laughed with a lot of amusement, rather than being hysterically funny like ROFL or pee-yourself-funny like ROFLMAO or LMAO. And BTW = By The Way. You learned TWO today! *wink*
Wow, it’s a great week for listing, you guys are just pounding them out!
Sharyn, how is your increase in listing affecting your sales? Are you seeing a big rise in sales to match the increased listing?
VT, don’t stress your sales. Despite my bump in listing, my sales were down this week. Like, by 75%! I think it’s just the time of year. Or my stuff is boring! 😀 BTW, I just noticed you’re the only one in this group who doesn’t have a State in your location. I noticed because I was thinking how much fun it would be to swing around and visit you all. What a round trip that would be!
Wow, Vintage Lacy, what an awesome find! I really, really REALLY have to try and make it to one of your shows. You’ve put such a desire in me to attend one!
And… Vintage Lacy takes the win, of course, in our updated Spreadsheet. You are most determined to make us work for it, aren’t you?
Working on my August Challenge trying desperately to clear the boxes under my desk. Dang… I pack EXCELLENTLY! I keep looking at the pile of stuff I’m pulling out and wondering how I managed to get it all in there in the first place! I’m not sure if I’ll manage to get it all cleared by month end, but I am trying! LOL
I’m doing pretty well on Steps 1 and 2. I’m keeping my area cleared and I’m pulling out a small list next pile as I go, selecting some items from the aforementioned boxes and working through them before I move on to the next pile. However, Step 3 is a bust. For folks who have just the eBay business, or a day job and eBay-at-night job, it might work. But for my crazy life with multiple businesses, a ranch with dogs who bleed all over my car on mad dashes to the vet (yet another one this weekend! Cut up his leg somehow and it went rancid, pus and blood and vet bills. Sigh…) – I just can’t seem to make it a list daily thing. I am, thanks to this Challenge, listing every week and making my minimum and some weeks exceeding my mins (always a good feeling) but there are days when I’m literally sitting down at my computer at 8PM at night to START listing! It’s just no bueno, and I’m exhausted.
However, I’m not sure if I’m being bloody-minded, but I don’t want to quit trying just yet. I’m wondering if I can create a schedule/routine that will work if I up the ante and go straight to Step 4 – set up a listing sprint. I’ve become much more mindful of HOW I spend my day and I’ve begun to recognize time snipers and busywork. Time snipers are those things that “just take 5 minutes” and before you know it, 2 hours have gone. For example, one of the unfortunate side aspects of my dance classes is liaising with other instructors. It’s good form, when one sends you a video clip/link in your email, to watch and comment or reply to the email. Which leads you to see something else and … rabbit hole.
To my delight, I’ve discovered an excellent solution to that particular problem. To my amusement, it’s a Chrome Extension called YouTube Rabbit Hole! Instead of all the links with suggested videos, you get a cute image of a rabbit in a hole. You can turn off subscriptions, links, comments, or choose just the ones you want to keep active. It has saved me a lot of time this week and I’ve been thrilled! I also realized that instead of sitting down at my computer first thing in the morning and going through all my new notifications, like catching up on SL posts and stuff, I can swipe through them as notifications on my phone. I can also quickly check my eBay to see if I have anything that needs my attention. Then I get stuck into manual labor for the first couple hours of the day, while my energy is high (I’m a morning person) such as housework, cleaning items to list, etc. and sit down to the time suck of my computer later in the day with a bunch of things cleared off the TDL.
This Challenge has been so good for me off eBay as well as on it. I’m hugely grateful, VT. It’s a lot of work, but for the first time in ages, I don’t feel like I’m rushing downhill through rapids without a paddle!
Cute!
This Friday I did my first ever plotted-on-Google-Maps round of yard sales in the local town. What an experience! Google Maps was awesome, it led me exactly to each spot and then waited for me to tell it to “continue”. I got around all 7 Sales, including the 50 miles round trip, in less than 3 hours. And I bought… dun dun dun…. nothing! Well, nothing for ME! I bought vintage sewing machines for Himself’s business and scored a touchdown: a vintage Singer for $40 that we’ll list for $150+ after it has been refurbished. Two weeks ago I got one for $40 that will go up for $500, so I’m on a roll. However, before you get too excited, I got ahead of myself and picked up a Singer Touch & Sew for $40 that will probably be parts only, so that’s going to break even, at best. Bummer! Reminds me to stay humble!
However, I went in, looked at the sewing stuff, bought if relevant, and hightailed it outta there without looking at anything else. I almost had to reach round, grab myself by the throat and THROW myself at my car at one place – they had a vintage projector and a vintage TV unit. These things looked like they were from the 1950s. I was so excited! But I don’t know anything about them and I had dropped $100 in 3 hours, so I figured it was just a case of FOMO and marched myself out the door. I’m going to mount a mannequin arm with a gloved hand on the inside door of the garage, with a string attached to the elbow. Then, when I get home, I can pat myself on the back!
Listed 16 items this week, all Death Pile. Woohoo!
Oh wow, thanks Mike! Great info here! I hadn’t even thought of a slip sheet, so that’s marvelous! Can I just use tissue for that?
I didn’t know FedEx would take USPS boxes. Good to know. If they’re happy to take ’em, I’m happy to send ’em! I’ll keep it in mind.
You guys are the best!
Hey Greg, this article was created 2 days ago. Dunno if it will help you, but it does have a question button…

Thanks Sharyn, appreciate it.
Reviving this thread to ask a question about shipping movie posters.
Does anyone have a current shipping rate for the Medium sized USPS tubes? When I tried to put it into the USPS website, they don’t have an automatic price option, you have to input the weight and dim and it gives me a return of $8.60 for Priority Mail and $5.53 for First Class. However, these are the USPS Priority Mail tubes, which means they can’t go First Class, amiright? I’m wondering if I would be better off buying unmarked tubes so that they can go First class – if so, where’s the best place to get them?
I got a box of 30 movie posters for $14. They’re the full size color posters from the local movie theater, it looks like, and mostly new films, no major ones. Hellraiser, Shall We Dance? (Richard Gere), Cold Mountain, The Forgotten, The Crow, Open Water, just scanning the titles written on the outside. Not big money, so I’m not going to spend too much on shipping or supplies.
Does anyone ship posters that can give me an idea of how best to ship them?
LOL. I was just daydreaming about this on Monday! 😀
I currently have an old hunting cabin that is my storage shed. It is 8′ wide by 16′ long, exterior dimensions. On one long side it has a door smack in the middle, with a window on either side. On the other long side is an in-window air-conditioner, but it’s not in a window, just mounted. It’s wired with electric outlets and lights.
If I had the funds, I’d buy a 20ft shipping container and have it dropped on the side of the shed, so that the two made an L shape. I’d install air and lights and then move my storage into it. The shed would then become my office. On one side would be my photography studio/packing station. On the other side would be my desk, computer, and printing set up.
In the space in front of the shed created by the L, I would create a concrete floor and a large roof with shelves, tables and a sink with water faucets. New stock would be stacked on the shelves and cleaned and sorted, before being taken into the shed for photographing and listing, and going into the container for storage. I’m not sure if I would enclose the space, possibly with bug mesh to keep out bugs and mosquitoes? Open air to blow out items and let them air, but under cover of the roof, with two sides (the container and the shed) for protection from weather. And everything would be stored in large plastic, lidded totes until it was cleaned and listed.
As I have ADHD, I’m easily distracted, so I wouldn’t have anything in it other than work stuff. The shed is nearly 600 yards from the main house, so I would “go to work.” If I had enough of eBay, I’d lock up, and go home. It would give me, I think, much needed structure and routine to “go to work” and would remove me from the current distractions I deal with (also known as Husband, although distractions sounds much more professional! LOL) Plus, I would then focus on the other things I need to do, go to my eBay office to work, and then go home with the idea that it was the end of my day. On the negative side though, I’d hate to be working until 10PM at night (as I am now) and still have to walk home in the dark. In full moon, it’s wonderful here, but when there’s no moon, it’s as dark as the Styx. That might creep me out!
Yes, there is discussion in the group about this. He asked for information on where eBay put that notification, but the person hasn’t responded. Fingers crossed it does come back.
On that note, somebody commented that it might have something to do with Terapeak. Now that eBay owns it, they want people to sign up for a store and use the Terapeak tool to research items. It’s speculation, nobody really knows for sure.
Make a note in the listing that Verizon stopped supporting 3G devices and let buyers decide for themselves.
