I’ve successfully sold “partial” items but putting in an estimated percentage. Such as “looks to be about 40%” or “approximately 70%” as size. I usually UNDER-guesstimate on purpose, so that the person looking at it goes “40%? That looks more like 50% to me!” and thinks they’re getting a bargain. Then I price according to my percentage.
If a new roll of coaxial goes for $60, as Jay quoted above, I’d price it at 40% of $60, or $24, plus shipping – and with best offer with an auto decline feature. I usually auto decline at about 75% of my list price. Put shipping in at lowest possible cost, e.g. Ground with a disclaimer that you reserve the right to change shipping methods. I have a blurb for this, copied below for you.
And I’d list the rolls as variations, or each individually, depending on how I want to ship. I’ve learned that calculated shipping for variables is a huge PIA, so I will list them separately. In each listing, I would mention that I have other cables available and invite them to check out my store and opt for combined shipping. I have a blurb for combined shipping to help those who don’t know how to use it; copied below for your convenience, feel free to use/amend as you like.
Blurbs:
Note: We reserve the right to choose between shipping providers, provided shipping times and costs are the same or better than those offered in the listing. Shipping is usually sent Ground or Home Delivery. Please provide a street address.Pssst! We offer combined shipping! Use “Add to Cart” instead of “Buy Now” and request an invoice at checkout to get your new shipping rate.
😀 😀 😀 😀 You’re right, Vintage Lacy, she did indeed! Bit of a Ninja Elf, in our Trash Elf Sharyn!
I have to admit, this group is the highlight of each new week!
Spreadsheet updated, and Ninja Sharyn sneaks in for a win.
Seconded!
Motion passed!
Despite my plans to list today, I’m done. I’ve been working flat out and I just need a day off. (Although that’s relative… I’m sewing a galabeya for dance class. I have a dozen to make, so today I’m scratching my head over the draft and sewing up a test version.)
Listed 12 last week, all Death Pile items. While I’m not listing fast, at least I’m consistently listing every week, and the uptick is sales is a welcome bonus.
Pretty much every week, VT, I achieve as much as I do because I have you in my corner. You, at least, were listing before we started the Challenge. I can pretty much say you’re keeping ME moving. Thank you, very, very much!
Report back for this week: made my minimum goal, although I didn’t get to list 2 daily. I only missed one listing day entirely, though a couple days I only listed one. My time has been so much about putting out fires and less about structure for so long, it’s really hard to create that structure effectively. I’m working at it, though.
Still working on steps 1-3 for this week, especially Step 3, and listing 2 per day for a minimum of 10.
LOL. Well, in that case, congratulations on getting to the end of your hard work. Vintage Treasures and I are working to join you in the No Death Piles stands in the next few months!
Wow, VT, you’re really taking this seriously! It’s such a pleasure having you as an accountability partner, you motivate me to keep being better!
For July I said I was going to stick with my June goal of 10 per week and to mindfully work on step 1 and get my desk utterly cleared of stuff, plus clear the other 3 shelves on my bookshelf and, if possible, clear UNDER the desk as well. For my listing goal, I should have listed 46 for the month, which I exceeded, but I didn’t have a steady daily listing habit. I did get my desk cleared and cleared more of my shelf, although not all of it, and one whole box cleared out from under the desk. 3 partial wins. Not as much as I would have liked, but I’m seeing a huge improvement in my environment and my entire daily schedule and listing habit, so that’s a major win! LOL.
For August I’m going to work on Steps 1 through 3.
Step 1: I’m going to clear the bookshelf – ALL the shelves, plus my desk, which got itself semi-cluttered again. And I’m going to clear UNDER the desk. There are about 5 boxes under there, so this is a challenge. This will give me a totally cleared working area for future and will make Step 1 permanently DONE on the TDL.
Step 2: is everything that I need to clear away to achieve this goal. It doesn’t actually qualify as a small List Next pile, but the only way I can clear the area is by listing it, so for this month, it will be the spirit of the step, if not the letter of it.
Step 3: list 2 per day. There are 22 work days in August, so I must list a minimum of 44 items.
Just so you know – I hate you. I really, really hate you!
Come to my house, I’ll keep you busy for WEEKS! 😉
I always knew I’d get old. How fast it happened was a bit of a surprise, though.
Another wine bottle emptied with no genie at the bottom. I’ll keep trying.
Wife: We can’t curse around the kids any more
Husband: What should I say instead of bull-
Wife (interrupting quickly) Shhhh! Say snake instead
Husband: (whispers) this is snakeshit!Sorry, folks, didn’t get online again after posting. Yes, Ryanne is right. The pitcher has a lip. If I fill it to the brim, it’s going to spill everywhere. A normal pitcher capacity measurement, as far as I can imagine, would be to the top of the neck, before it widens to the section with the lip. Why would you want to know how much it takes to the brim?
Today’s one has me scratching my head. It’s a pitcher. The buyer wants to know how many ounces of water it will hold if I fill it completely to the brim. O.o?
And yesterday’s buyer of a vintage mug told me to ensure it’s high quality. Um… okay?
Oh my gosh, VT! That’s awful! What a jerk! I’m horrified that nobody helped you and most especially at your houseghoul. If he ever gets stung, I hope he’ll remember you and have the grace to feel guilty!
Fingers crossed I NEVER get to experience it!
Have fun at the party! Is it your birthday?

Yes, I struggled too.
Let’s revive last week’s challenge and get it working for this week, then next week can be a fresh new challenge. Keep the momentum going!
So I have to list minimum 10, and do Step 1: have a dedicated listing area; Step 2: have a small list next pile; and Step 3: List daily. I have to list 2 per day to make my goal, so I’m going to try to work to create some sort of routine that makes that happen. Due to the number of businesses I work in, I only work eBay Mon-Fri so that I have 2 days for other tasks like sewing and housework deep cleaning and other fun activities!
For you? Box your deathpile items, put them in the office closet, and list 6 per day to make 30 per week? Do I have that right? And you have to get Step 1, 2 and 3 as well!
