Retro – you’re awesome! I do believe you’re right, it is a courthouse!
The bad news is, the folks who gave these plates to me were travelers. I have plates from PA, WI, MA, and all over in this collection. All but this one have some identifying feature! I called them to ask if they remember it, but they don’t. And I looked through all the Texas courthouses in that incredible gallery of imposing edifices, but it’s not in Texas. π
However, you have given me some keywords! I shall put it up as Courthouse Colonnades and see if some eagle-eyed buyer comments. Thank you for your help!
Hey ChristineR, welcome back! So glad you got all of this behind you. I empathize, I’ve walked that road and it’s not a fun one. However, I do have a humorous quote for the day to put you in the mood:
Don’t judge me… you haven’t walked my path, or ridden my broom! πVT – it’s OCTOBER! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!
How about an October Challenge? ChristineR, you can do it too, if you like.
The Challenge is… drum roll… DONATE CHEAP STUFF!
Yup. You commit to going through all your DPs and finding ANYTHING that would list for less than $10 and DONATE IT! Thrift store, Job Center, Women’s Shelter, Uncle Jimmy’s Booze Bottle Collection; doesn’t matter. Just as long as you move it OUT!
Challenge is:
Minimum 31 items (one for each day of the month.)
32 – 50 items – bonus, you rock!
50-75 items – you’re a Death Pile Demon!
75-100 items – Death Pile Destroyer!
100+ items – are you kidding me? You have over 100 low-dollar items? What were you THINKING???!!!Yeah, it’s really close. But I notice this building has a 2nd row of windows on the corners on one side and a single window on the other. The post office building has a triple window on both sides. π
Thanks for trying!
I’m stumped. There’s nothing at all on the back of the plate not even a maker’s stamp and no visible words or identifying features on the picture. What’s the point of a commemorative plate if there’s no indication what it’s commemorating?
Hey folks, thanks for the good wishes. LOL, Sharyn, it sure has felt like it! The antibiotics have helped, my ultrasound is scheduled for late October, but I’m feeling better, so that’s good. Hopefully we’ll figure this out at the u/s and get it cleared up for sure. Anyone who says God is a woman obviously doesn’t have an uterus! Grrr…
No listings for me this last week, as expected, and I didn’t expect to have any for this coming week either, but I was just given over a dozen commemorative plates and quickly researched them to see if they were worth keeping or I should give them back (they offered to let me give them back, before you think I’ve lost ALL decency!) In the process of research, I created drafts, so they might be a quick list. Life does like throwing curveballs, doesn’t it?
Well done on your listings, ladies. Good luck on your show, VL.
Sharyn wins the week again. Spreadsheet updated.
So sorry, y’all, I’ve not been well this week and not done much. I’m not going to talk about my troubles on deh interwebz, except to say it’s “lady troubles” and severe. I’m on pain meds, had tests done, have an ultra-sound scheduled and may need surgery. NOT a happy camper! π
Spreadsheet updated and Sharyn takes the baton again for this week’s win! Go you!
VL – what a scavenge! Looking forward to seeing photos at the show!
Good for you! No, not as much as I’d like. π Will prob do some late night runs this week.
How has everyone’s week been? Ever heard the saying “you haven’t had enough coffee until you can thread a sewing machine while it’s running!”? Well, I haven’t been drinking that much coffee, but I sure feel like I’m almost up to that level of adrenalin. What a week! LOL
Zero for me, still working on taxes. And costumes. Can you believe it? Costumes AGAIN! I’ve got to make 8 folkloric dance dresses for the troupe, so days are spent with numbers, nights are spent with the sewing machine. Full speed ahead!
Wishing you all a great week ahead.
I don’t think these are Japanese. I think they’re Chinese. The writing on the side I think is “oriental-styled hieroglyphics”, although it could be very stylized writing. The base markings in your photos are too blurry to zoom into and read legibly, so I can’t help. I checked with someone who knows Japanese and she says it might be, but she can’t tell. I read some Chinese, and couldn’t work it out either.
So I went with the drawings. Japan had a ban on wheeled vehicles until the late 1800s, and then they had man-pulled rickshaws (trivia bit: the word rickshaw comes from the Japansese word jinrikisha (δΊΊεθ») which means ‘human-powered vehicle.)
The Chinese, on the other hand, have a long history of horse-drawn transport. Here is a lovely drawing of a chariot that looks very much like the ones on your tea cups.
My uneducated-and-entirely-opinionated guess is that these are modern cups made especially for the tourist trade. Chinese tea cups are usually small, holding only 1-2oz, and these look quite a bit larger than that, more like the Japanese Yunomi. So you have a mix of Chinese drawings on a Japanese tea bowl. π However, they do look lovely, so they may sell.
Keywords I recommend: oriental; chariot; tea bowl; yunomi

I use the auto decline feature A LOT! I used to get mad at low-ball offers ($5 on mint condition Ferrogamo’s!) but then I decided what price would I feel offended at getting an offer for this? I set the auto-decline higher than that. Yes, I miss some offers, but it’s worth not having a blood pressure spike.
I don’t have best offer on any Free Shipping items. I just put those on sale, if I want to move stuff.
BAD you! *wink*
My 8 steps print-out fell off the wall and I need to find out where it went. Later… right now I really need to get my taxes done and sent to our CPA. As we have two LLC’s, 3 businesses, and my husband’s retirement income that has to be collated; it’s a huge job. As a fully trained accountant, I dropped our annual tax preparation bill from over $4,000 to only $800 by doing all the paperwork up to our Profit and Loss Statement – which is marvelous for our bank account but a major “why did I ever volunteer for this” pain in the patootie for me. I’m working on reducing the number of bank accounts we have, and I’m combining the two LLC’s, and trying to get to the point where our accounts are done monthly. This will make future years much easier. It just feels like a constant game of catch up, as our previous accountant was, hmmm, how do I put this? Lacklustre? She definitely didn’t do more than the minimum and it has taken years to unravel the clothes hangers from the spiderwebs and make sense of it all. I’m catching up though and, while we might not get there this year, I’m fairly certain I’ll get it done so that if not next year, the 2021 taxes will be a doddle!
Fingers crossed!

I’m enjoying getting to know you better and can’t wait until we meet!
However, the IRS can freeze my bank accounts and put me in jail. If you can top that, I’m going to start listing NOW!
Wow, you guys are listing demons! Well done, you!
I was almost entirely off eBay this week, so zero listed. I will probably be off eBay for the next two weeks as I have to get my taxes done. We took the October extension and, despite best efforts to get to it during the year, I still haven’t finished. Until I do, it will be the focus of the balance of this month. If I get a chance to sneak in a listing or two, I will, but the IRS is scarier than VT, so they win this round. π
Spreadsheet updated and VL takes the win again, although very good effort by Sharyn to oust her! LOL

09/14/2019 at 11:10 am in reply to: In preparation for Managed payments…best points card for business expenses? #67781I know it goes against current thinking, but I don’t own a credit card. I have a rewards debit card with a credit union and am very happy with it. The service is exceptional, they pay me interest on positive balances, and I get cool stuff when I’ve racked up enough points. Another plus – I used the same credit union to finance the house and got a 2% mortgage. I’ve travelled the world, rented cars Stateside and overseas, and paid for airline tickets with it locally and overseas, so I’ve had no problems with the commonly held belief that you need a credit card for those things. Also, on the safety side of things, they’re more on top of it than I am. I’ve been really impressed. I honestly feel that the credit union debit card has been better for me than our bank debit card.
