T-Satt,
It is good to hear things are going well for you. It is good that you are not really effected by returns. With this new return policy ebay is mandated, the rate of returns may increase for all of us as sellers. The all of us includes thousands of sellers.
I will just share that these issues/ebay ways of doing things are more than just one seller. They effect thousands of sellers (many Top Rated Sellers) which is why this is an important topic to address by the collective of Top Rated, Top Rated Plus, and Anchor Store sellers.
T-Satt,
I hear your perspective, but I would have to disagree. It is not a choice when they have set the stipulation that if you do not offer Free Returns you are on your own. When they have taken away INAD support if you do not offer free returns. When they have made it so that the Top Rated Seller status will be withheld if you do not offer free returns. That is not a choice, that is what is called a forced option. If 80% of items sold on ebay are new, this stipulation and forced option is even worse for sellers. You sell a new item at a new item price only to have to pay for it to be returned open and used. Ok, so you can give a partial refund (if it is approved), but based on the extent of use and/or damage, the item may not be able to be resold so the the seller is out the money for shipping both ways, the amount for the item that could not be recouped, and the item itself.
Top Rated Sellers and those with Anchor stores are a huge profit stream for ebay and have a very powerful voice with ebay. Top Rated Sellers as a whole have already brought about positive change because they voiced their opinion as a collective and we all benefitted from it.
Running a one man store is fine and accepting whatever comes down is fine if that is what works for the seller. The reality is that those who have history with ebay, have Too Rated Seller Status, Top Rated Seller Plus Status, or who have Anchor store status have enough of a voice to redirect how things are done. Unfortunately, those who do not hold one of the above positions do not have as strong of a voice.

This is where Top Rated Sellers and/or Anchor Store sellers are going to have to step in in a very calm, professional, and fact based manner and let ebay know this INAD and Return policy that they have instituted is not ok. Ebay is making free shipping both ways a marketing point for them but it is only beneficial to them as a company and not to sellers. If those at the top of the ebay seller tier (who have a very strong voice with ebay) do not let ebay know that this is not ok, ebay will continue to move forward with it.

This is actually very simple.
Go into your Paypal account. Click on the top tab that says Reports.
Then go down to Activity download. Click
Look under Create New Report. Use the drop downs to put in the correct date set. Click on Create Report.
Under Activity Reports, click on Download.
An excel sheet will open up.As T-Satt noted, if there is a stop point in time in which a report can be created, ask PayPal to send you an Excel sheet via emails of your past sales. This will save alot of time and energy.
Do you know how to use excel in order to filter? If you need some assistance with how to filter in Excel, please let me know and I will share how to do it.

What a great impassioned discussion from such impassioned sellers. The best part of such a discussion is the opportunity provided to all of us to ask ourselves the questions – Who are we as sellers? what is our preferred style of selling? What works for us? What are the pros and cons of the different ways to sell and how do they effect how we as sellers choose to sell? For some, selling individual pieces works while for others putting the same items into a lot works. For some BIN works while for other Auctions work and for others a mix works.
I have tried both BIN and Auction. I have had both not lead to a sale.
For me as a seller, auctions can be a little frustrating because of the work and hope involved. I have had BIN items with multiple views and watchers which I switched to Auction (and even lowered the beginning price a little) thinking it would be a definite sale and that I might even get more than I priced the item for only to have the item end without a sale. As we know, once an item ends, it has to be found in our ended item list and then relisted. This takes time and work. Of course, the upside of auctions is they exist for a brief period of time and (based on the item) can bring a high return. It’s a glitch. It will be revoked as ebay gets thier call center flooded today.
I did not realize it was such a problem until I called. At first, I just backed out of the listing thinking I had triggered something or that there was some glitch that would go away. It was not until it happened several times (on both the PC and phone) that I decided to call and found out that this is a known problem. I hope they fix this soon. I really do not want to have to keep checking my account for charges every time I revise a listing.
It is my understanding the Free Returns feature with the option for domestic and/or international does not come out until May 1st.
I never thought about that. Good tip.

source – GoogleMike,
Regardless of what you decide to do about this, I just want to offer – Find 10-20 items you are comfortable putting on sale at low cost. People love sales. Let the items sell. Be your excellent seller self in getting all of the items to the buyers exactly as described. By the time the new positive feedback comes in (which buyers can see by date) this negative (if still there) will just be a blip on the radar. It will leave buyers thinking – he has this one negative with an apology and refund but look at all the postive before and after.Mike,
I just want to offer that a phone call and its contents cannot be tracked or verified.Has there been a time when you were very upset with someone and did not trust them because you thought they were lying to get away with something? Could they have said or done something (while you were uoset) to change or mind or the situation without aggrevating it some more?
T-Satt,
I appreciate your perspective but this buyer already does not trust Mike as a seller. Opening a conversation with this kind of buyer may be like “opening a can of worms” which is just bursting at the seams. Once worms are out, getting them up and back into the can can be very complex and take a really long time. Much time will be lost finding and picking up worms that could be used researching, listing, packaging, and even sourcing.
Mike,
I would hold off on relisting it for awhile. If you relist it immediately and the buyer sees it, it could look like you are playing games which could wind up in the feedback. In researching items, I have seen that kind of review in some sellers’ feedback -it says something like – I won the auction or paid and then the seller said they did not have it or could not find it. Then I found the item listed again/for sale by the seller. Do not buy from this seller.
Seeing this kind of review makes the seller look fishy. Even though you had a legit situation, buyers will not know that.
While Cassini results are important, as sellers, we must still take into account the strong product based push ebay is doing. This increases competition becasue buyers are shown multiple other options for buying our item or an item similar to it. Even if one sells a unique item that can not be found exactly, something similar in nature may come up which can divert a buyer’s attention due to the product and/or the expenditure involved. While multiple options can be good for buyers, it is not always good for sellers.
