Buyer replied and asked if I was evil and stealing from innocent people. That I just slipped in the ‘parts only’ and was sneaky.A few minutes later the Red Negative feedback showed up.
@Sharyn: I sure hope his written threat of ‘bad review’ via eBay message was strong enough for a feedback removal. I’ll be calling eBay Support in the morning to see if it can be removed.Seems like it is worth a shot to see if buyer will be more reasonable. Hopefully no Bad Review in the morning.
Just sent this reply to buyer:
I’m sorry the item did not work for you. The item was still sealed in the package, so I could not test it before the sale and have no idea if it works or not. This is why I offered it for sale clearly marked with “For Parts or not working”, “As-Is” and “No returns”. Did you miss all that?
I prefer happy buyers and value my eBay reputation, but this transaction does not qualify for “money back”. And, in that case, I would be out all the seller fees and shipping charges not to mention the item. What are you asking me to do for you?
Regards.
@Sharyn: I understand what you mean about feedback extortion. ‘Bad review’ tiptoes up to the line but might not cross it like the word ‘negative’ would. Depends on the support agent if it comes to that.
What I am learning from this is that I should have but the words “As-Is” or similar in the item title. Then if a poor feedback was left that would show up about the item. Now only the words “New / NIP” would show.
This was an $18 item w/ free shipping that went out first class package.
12/15/2019 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 441: How Do I Go From Rookie to Veteran Scavenger? #71692@Jay: I followed your link to read about eBay Send, and then clicked on eBay’s link to their terms and conditions. eBay’s terms and conditions for Send are 9 pages, with 3300+ words / 20,000+ characters.
@Sharyn:
Thanks for your perspective on this. It helps.My view had been that of a person who never collected sales tax. (No sales tax license, etc.) So I didn’t even want to see the tax reporting details.
But from the perspective of other sellers that previously collected sales tax, the SixBit implementation method seems to make more sense. I am still trying to get my head around it but it looks like I need to adopt that new perspective.
Apparently, there is additional book-keeping work for sellers even though eBay is handling the collecting and remitting.
@Kelly1mm:
Thanks for the Paypal info. Part of more book-keeping work for sellers.@TheMeatPolice:
If you have a successful life, you already know that having plans and setting goals can be important. I think what @almasty is saying is that you should be more into enjoying eBay first and learning a few things before you get to the point of considering it as a business for yourself.Typically there are a few lessons to be learned thru hard knocks on eBay. This forum can help keep you positive with some good advice during those hard knocks.
@almasty has been on this forum for years and has 1000’s of items for sale online. So I would consider advice from @almasty as golden. (Same kudos for many other members here.)
You are having a lot of grief over this one. I feel the same when it happens to me.
But, If you reply to the feedback, it looks larger on your feedback page.
Try calling eBay. Yes they make it difficult!
Check the other feedbacks left by this buyer. Some buyers show that they are difficult to please by the feedback that they leave. If your buyer appears too grumpy, that can be yet another reason for eBay to remove the feedback. This could be the ammunition that you need for eBay to pull their feedback if you call eBay support.
If you must reply, make it short and to the point NOT in CAPS.
@LazyBeatnik:
Code 88 could be anything. Goodwill calls out codes for items like ‘need to open another register’ or ‘need help to load furniture for customer’, etc.@Jordan:
i searched a couple of different ways and the search placement looks poor to me too.Not relevant to the search placement are details about the blemish on the sleeve. Maybe you need a better explanation.
Is that a factory blemish or a burn hole? To me blemish refers to a factory or store issue, so the item becomes like a retail ‘second’. If it is a burn hole, I’d call it a flaw or issue, not a blemish.
11/25/2019 at 9:23 pm in reply to: smudge-free shipping labels for laser printer – recommendations pls #71069@sonia:
I use labels similar to what you describe. They may be a bit glossier than copy paper but still don’t smudge unless something is wrong with my printer.Test print a label on regular copy paper to see if you get any smudging on that.
If you do, then the problem is the printer, printer settings or toner / drum.Keep in mind that if you reply to the feedback, it makes the feedback entry even larger in your feedback list, thereby calling more attention to that entry. And it may make a support agent less willing to remove the entry. So I do not recommend this as your next step.
There used to be a mechanism where you could go thru eBay to ask the seller for a feedback revision. You could try this. If you don’t think the buyer would consider this, then try calling eBay. Or try this if you come up empty after having called eBay support.
When calling eBay support, Be prepared for more than one call attempt to find a sympathetic agent. Review eBay’s current feedback removal policy and have a copy in front of you to reference while you try to make your case with the support agent.
Advice on calling used to be to try to get a US agent by calling early in the morning.
If you feel that you must reply on the feedback entry, perhaps you can wait until it gets pushed down to the 2nd page of your feedback list. Maybe you can think of ways to get it pushed down faster by asking recent good buyers for their positive feedback, making a few small purchase and/or sales to build some quick entries.
I buy a lot less on eBay these days. Perhaps partly because my sales are down compared to years past and partly because of bad seller issues.
Telling myself the following:
Maybe we should stop giving bad sellers a pass and report more seller issues instead of letting them slide. After all, their bad behavior helps tarnish our eBay seller reputations too (guilt by association).Sometimes posting a negative feedback might be deserved but many of us hesitate because we are sellers too, and know the pain.
My guess is something in the plastic tub. Like perhaps an old cigarette lighter.
edit: Oh there is an awesome Jack Daniels lighter in the oval box.

@IndySales:
This is a good example of how eBay is driving off good buyers. And good buyers determine all our sales there.Give them a bad review and if you have time, call eBay to report this. Perhaps you will have a chance to tell them that you are a seller and that they are driving off all your good buyers when they don’t enforce their own rules.
If the item fails ‘Guaranteed Delivery’, you might get a refund of your paid shipping charges or a $5 voucher from eBay. You have to file for this somehow in your myEbay buying area.
11/22/2019 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Article re Ebay Item Specific Fixes & Free Optiseller Tool to ID Problems #70934@Old-Dad:
Yes this is all geeky and it gets deeper.
I am seeing something a bit strange with some of my item specifics when downloaded from isdntek. (Isdntek is not incorrect, but rather uncovered the issue.)There is some interaction for those items where I have used an eBay EPID. The EPID specs override my intended settings. This is particularly bad because the EPID gives more page views but EPID data is also full of errors.
The override could be an eBay issue or perhaps a Sixbit issue.
Are you using EPID for any of your items and if so, is there a correlation with those that drop data as you described above?
