yes saddles should be stored upended unless they are on a rack of course, but in a box it won’t matter as the carrier will put the box however they want to, unless you can put arrows and hope for the best

02/24/2017 at 10:33 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 298: The Scavengers and The Collectors, A Love Story #13271I donated my skunk ceramics, etc, collection before going full on ebay. No one in my family was interested in it. I only kept the first skunk item that started it all, from my childhood, and a couple from my late best friend. Oh, and I still have the tattoo.
Last year I started collecting Christmas trinket boxes, the hinged ones. Started when my granddaughter put one in my lawn sale for .25 and it didn’t sell. I decided to collect them as they are small enough that even if none of my kids or their kids want a collection of them, they’d still be able to keep one or two in memory of me. I hope they get passed down generation to generation. Plus they are small enough to store off season, and cute enough to display for that one month a year.
I never knew my grandmothers, and I have a ring and a pin from one, my most treasured possessions, so it’s important for me to pass somethings down.

Potential scam? #12805You could always buy some of those tyvek bracelets that hook onto itself through a belt loop or someplace similar. Take a photo of it attached (the serial number), include the photo and the serial number in the listing, say it must not be removed if returned, and also say that you require seller purchased delivery confirmation signature, and the buyer must have an adult agent available to sign for it upon delivery.
As far as a new seller buying high end clothing-new job? came into some money? So many reasons! You could also check to see what kind of feedback if any she’s left for her sellers.
Good luck!
I like your idea of labeling each individual plastic bag, I’m assuming this works great for similar items. I don’t have many items that are the same, but this would be a good idea for me for say a bin full of tees so I wouldn’t have to take each item out of the plastic bag.
I have also used your idea before of staying put at my listing table, and putting things in plastic bags and taping a piece of paper with what tote it’s going to go into, then grabbing a bunch and go to those totes. My listing area is my dining room table and my ebay totes are in a different room.
As far as half empty totes, just stick a flagging tape or a post-it on each tote as you sell items out of it so you know which ones have room to fill up with new inventory. I haven’t had to buy any new totes in probably a year.
My inventory:
1. Use the custom sku on the description with the tote #
2. Use my word program on my Mac to list each item with the same tote # as on the custom sku
3. Every other week or so, I copy my inventory list onto an external hard drive and I also email it to myself in case of computer frying or accidental deletion
4. Pray they match up when an item sells
5. Because I couldn’t take it anymore after selling an item last week and discovering my mislabeling on both the custom sku and the inventory list, hubs lugged 50+ totes into our living room and I took each tote apart item by item, hand writing in a notebook, one sheet per toteThis gave me the chance to refresh my memory on items listed a long long time ago, plus I found some items that weren’t listed. I think those happened when ebay defaulted to 30 day listings instead of my usual GTC-I thought I’d caught all of them.
It’s been a lot of work and carpel tunnel, but the peace of mind I have is priceless. I tore out all the notebook pages and put them in a binder in tote numerical order. Old school but mind-relieving.
I feel like I’ve already said this on here? Sorry if so!

Thanks for sharing thrifty2.
Out of curiosity, what types of ephemera do you generally sell? How is your average selling price on that sort of stuff?
I am so sorry I didn’t see this to reply!
I sell whatever ephemera I find, I love it all. Because I’m able to source much at less than $2, I can feel free to take any offer if I want to move it at that time. I don’t really sell enough to have any kind of average, yet!
I hope OP got her money back, that’s not cool. I opened a new buying account recently and started getting hit with seasoned sellers who thought because I appeared to be a newbie, they could send wrong items, give me wrong info about ebay returns, things like that. I am happy to say that after fighting since 12/24 waiting for a refund on a simple 8.99 item that was not the item seen in the listing, even though ebay closed it out against me saying I had not sent the return tracking # (which I had), a nice rep promptly refunded me the money-the best part is she did not refund me the $ out of ebay but right out of the dishonest seller who strung me along for weeks-and truthfully and sadly I’d forgotten about the limit to give feedback so I passed that date.
So, OP, try and try again please! Good luck.
(Sorry if you already answered this, after being on Facebook and watching the news I just couldn’t go through all the above posts!)
02/09/2017 at 6:47 pm in reply to: Scavenger Life Episode 296: Are You Keeping Up With Your Inventory System? #12180I have what I think is an almost fail-proof inventory system. I have almost all my listed items in numbered totes,(larger items are on shelves) with the item name and tote # on a word program, and every couple of weeks I email the list to myself in case of computer failure or accidental deletion. I also put the tote # in the custom sku area of the listing.
However, when I have a sold item that’s listed in tote 11 on the inventory sheet and on the custom sku area and it’s not there (Hello, tote 13), hours of looking ensue. And there have been items that I’ve forgotten to account for anywhere. My husband suggested I go through every tote and list each item on a notepad. Old School to the umpth degree.
But I decided to do it, and he has lugged, so far, 34 totes into our living room, and I’ve taken them apart item by item listing them on a .25 Walmart notebook. (we buy a case when the school supplies come out in August)
Not only will I have a 3rd backup inventory, but it’s been fun seeing what stuff I’d forgotten about that have been listed for months, years, and what stuff I don’t even remember when/how/why I bought. I’ve even started putting an asterisk next to NWT items that would be suitable as gifts for our grandkids.
I now only have to go through maybe 12 boxes, and then he’ll help me clean up/out the purple ebay room-it has personal stuff in there too that we are going to move into a different room.
The only items I have ever done similar/like to a tote or box have been cups or hats. For fun I counted how many items are in one particularly full tote, and there are 37. I have totes and totes of eclectic items living together.
And that’s how I do it! (Oh crap, I just remembered I have a china closet and a bookcase full of items to re-inventory too)

My dogs have their own room to hang out in when they’re not with anyone outside, we actually call it The Dogs’ Room. I don’t let them anywhere near my ebay work space. I have a great-nephew who’s only 8, and he’s severely allergic to many many things and has a compromised immune system, so I take that into consideration when shipping to my customers.
Wow, never heard of this! Hubs and I took 5 boxes to our closest GW today, which is an hour away but on way home from his dr appt. This would be so much easier! Thanks for the info.
I appreciate all the comments. Onward!
“Omg this seller is among the elite the best. ..handled my problem like a god”
The only thing I did was take out one pair of socks that he didn’t want in the lot, reduce the price, and let him buy.
I listen religiously to the podcast but could never figure out my way around your old blog. This one is great!
An idea for a topic, unless you want to keep things more serious: Unique/funny/strange positive feedbacks received.
I tried an Etsy store only because I’d bought 2 Gucci belts to flip on ebay-then couldn’t determine for sure that they were real. They were made before the serial #s were being stamped on them. I did find exact ones already sold as authentic, and I reached out to the seller for help in verification. She was polite but basically said she wouldn’t be able to say yes or no.
I sold them on Etsy because I figured that even if I feel 100% they are authentic, if they got returned for some reason I wouldn’t jeopardize my ebay account. Both sold, and I received great feedback from each buyer.
I found I couldn’t keep up with 2 stores and separate inventories so I ended the Etsy. With my AZ store, I do FBA.
