Love the fresh look. As with anything, will take some time to learn the new layout. I am particularly excited about the new organization and searchability. As usual, you continue to invest and I so appreciate that!

–Did you have any issues finding the forum and registering?
–We started with a list of obvious topics. Any other ideas? -

Love the forum! It was super easy to find and register. I had an idea since I had an issue this morning (I just did the refund and blocked the buyer BTW). Why not a dealing with customer issues topic? We could get and give advice on returns, negative feedback removal, things that come up with international sales, those types of things. Unless that falls under the Selling on eBay topic?

Looks great – and easier to read. 🙂

J & R: Would you consider making the font a little bigger for the text and headings of posts? While I realize that I have some control over the font size displayed by my browser (I can make everything bigger or smaller), the thing is that I don’t want to make ALL of the font sizes bigger. For example, the font size of “Recent Posts” (heading AND items) on the right size of the page is great – I don’t want that to become any bigger. Also the title of this thread “Okay, so what do you think …” is already plenty large.

yes we are working on getting the font larger. it’s on the list. thanks!

I forgot to mention that I love the nice super-thin-lined font that you chose.

Yes, we’re going to work on making the forum font larger. I think 16 font would be a good size.
and yes, I agree that we could have a category of “Customer Service”.

Well Good Morning: Grabbing coffee and seeing what progress you have made.
I agree enlarge the font some and maybe just a little bit thicker stroke, but that may happen automatically with the font increase.Couple of other topics to maybe include, since I have bookmarked so many questions about these. Photography [what camera to use, what settings, white balance, lenses, staging, props, depth of field, automatic vs. aperature and shutter speed settings, lighting, light kits, etc., etc. has been tons of questions about these]
Next Topic: Cleaning- Glass, Brass, Metals [how to polish brass, silver, difference between all the various metals, how to remove stains, smells, what detergent, etc., etc..ton of these types of questions and follow up comments]
Electronics [TV’s, Radios, Walkmen, radios, how to find, fix, what to buy to skip, how to ship, games, consoles, CD, DVD’s, VHS, Tapes, parts, etc., etc. [again many questions and answers been posted and answered here also]
Just a few suggestions as you asked mike in Atlanta

I like the cleaning topic. And maybe photography. I think “electronics” should be under “Scavenging”.
My concern on any new forum are too many different categories at the beginning.
We need to concentrate our conversations until we get enough people over here to not make it feel like a ghost town. We’re just a little tiny campground right now!Eventually we can drill down and really expand our topics. Good news is that every conversation from here on out should be searchable no matter what category the post is in.

See you are up. What time do you guys usually get? I try to be up around 6-6:30 and in my office by 7.
Question.. You say you are moving all of the “former” comments over to here. Are going to try to categorize them according to the topics you already have set up. I mentioned a few weeks back in a post that I have subscribed to the RSS Feeds through Outlook. Then this menas they are saved “offline”. Then I use my Outlook categories to segregate them. Blue flag for questions, green flag for answers, Red flag as very important and yellow for need to keep this. Then after a thread is dead at the end of a few weeks, I delete everything not flagged, the balance is saved. Those then are searchable within Outlook. I have about 3,000 comments saved [can you believe that], anyway. Now when you guys bring all those comments over.. are they just going to be posted by date, chronologically or are you going to do searches on them and try to find those that match certain key words and place them by topic. Just curious as to how you were going to do all the old posts. If you do that, then that will mean I can probably delete all of my thousands of saved RSS Feeds from SL and clear up some HD space. We wake up at different times. That’s the freedom of owning our time! This week, we’re getting up around 5am because we have a lot of work to do (like fix this blog).
Older comments will be ported over and attached to each blog post. It will not be sucked into forum because they would never be ordered neatly. good news is that those older comments should be better searchable.

Cool beans, nice to see the forums set-up. Quick question, how do I add a profile image? I signed up for “Gravitar”, uploaded an image, but I’m not seeing it here.

Hi folks, dig the new forum and ideas, couple suggestions from my side…. forum font is kinda skinny and light, looks sketchy, like a printer running low on ink…. also too much scrolling in the forum to see the posts, the current setup is like each post is a whole “card” even if it’s just a few words, and only two cards or so fit on a page and that = lotsa scrolling to get through the posts, I’d tighten it up and don’t worry as much about pretty or fancy, it’s data, words…. save fancy for the rest of your site!
You guys have had a great podcast for a long time…. Jay, businesswise we think almost identical, practical…. Ryanne…. I’m scouting around for some Shipping Nerds Unite t-shirts….. keep up the great work… good luck with and congrats on expanding the estate!
Okay, off to cleaning the garage and listening to the new podcast….
zman….. cool stuff network

It appears that “threading” (I think that is the right term) is no longer supported. I can’t respond directly to a comment inside a thread. On other forums, there is an option to reply directly, which causes the original post to the quoted inside my response.
One of these options would be very helpful, otherwise the conversation could become very disjointed.

10/31/2016 at 11:50 am #4567
i think it’s working, but it’s not really showing up well. i’m replying to you and it should be slightly right formatted, but this is alon on the list for our developer to fix/check out.
-
10/31/2016 at 12:02 pm #4570
Now I see the reply button. It is a very, very faint gray color next to the post number. Can you make that bold or something? It’s very hard to see.

Love the forums. Thank you so much for the upgrade. As others have said, the font needs to be larger with better contrast.

Just working things out. I am coming along. Got new name, new photo up from Gravtar. I did notice that the “Edit” tab is gone from the upper right area.
For Ryanne, when you change to a bigger and bolder font, don’t forget to create a slightly light grey background. About a 5% tint into the white will make the type face not “Vibrate” and be more stable to the human eye. This was covered in more detail in that article I sent you a link to, but I know you are swapped. Swamped is maybe not the word, try “buried alive”!! mike at MDC Galleries in Atlanta

I agree with this whole heartedly. I was in the minority that I actually liked the white lettering on black background. This site the background is simply too white. With the bold lettering, the contrast is amplified and it kind of hurts to look at.

Never mind.. the Edit Tab has re-appeared. oh well. Very interesting stuff the last few days.

Is there a way you can make the page auto resize to the window size? The forum seems to be set in width instead of stretching to fill the window. This becomes a problem with nested replies. There is a nested reply in the podcast forum that go to the point the post was one word wide! It was totally unreadable.

Love the new forum. Is there a way to make it scroll to the bottom of the messages like it used to do? I would start reading from the bottom up so that I saw the latest posts first.
Love the new look.
-
11/01/2016 at 12:23 pm #4700
how would you do that on the old blog?
-
11/01/2016 at 12:31 pm #4702
Hi Ryanne
In the comments on the old site it would position you to the bottom of the comments when you went in to read the comments so that you saw the latest comments first. I’d read from the bottom to the top since most of the time I had already read the comments at the top. I’m not sure if that makes sense or if I just need to be used to scrolling to the bottom.
Thanks

that’s weird, that never happened for me, it should go right to the top of the comments in order of being posted. that being said, not sure why that happened for you, but you’ll need to just scroll to the bottom.
-
11/01/2016 at 12:53 pm #4707
That’s how it worked for me as well. It would always jump to the bottom.
-
11/01/2016 at 1:14 pm #4712
really??? that’s so weird, maybe a PC thing? or a particular browser thing? what browser are you guys on?
-
11/01/2016 at 1:37 pm #4713
It did the same on IE and Chrome on two different PC’s.

Just hit your end key and you auto jump to the bottom of a thread. Hit your “Home” key and you jump to the top of the thread. That should do what you wish it to do. Mike at MDC Galleries in Atlanta

Hi Guys,
How do I (or can I) limit email notifications to replies to my comment and not the topic generally? Love you guys, but… “) I see the box for notification and probably had forgotten to uncheck it. It would be preferable to me to have the default as no notification or notification to my own replies only.
Thanks – it’s great!

I listen religiously to the podcast but could never figure out my way around your old blog. This one is great!
An idea for a topic, unless you want to keep things more serious: Unique/funny/strange positive feedbacks received.

I still don’t like how it looks on my phone. I have to read comments in a weird vertical line with two words on a line by itself and scroll forever. Or if I flip my phone to read it better it’s awkward to hold and I can’t comment because the text box is covered by the on screen keyboard. If I rotate it back it starts at the tip of the page again and I lose my spot. Also in some spots numbers are jumbled over other words.

Yes, the mobile design needs a lot of work. It’s on our list.
I’d like to be able to read and post to the forum from my phone as well.
